Yet Another Mosconi Moment #3

As most are aware, Corey has had Mika's number in their recent matches for whatever reason.

Here is a magnificent sequence from their singles match at the Mosconi Cup.

Corey was down 3-0 in this match but fought back to hill-hill. This action is from their hill-hill game.

At 39:10 of the video, Corey plays a terrific safety on Mika putting him behind the 3 ball. Mika decides to intentionally foul, creating a cluster with the 3 ball.

That combination took both of us by surprise....and Mika too!
For those of you who were not able to see the Mosconi Cup live on TV, I highly recommend these videos on youtube. It's even fun for me to see it over again. It was an amazing Mosconi Cup, one of the best ever. The play was superlative, the emotions were raw and the crowd was unbelievable. I'm just glad I was there.

It was voiced in this match what I've felt for a long time...
Corey is the American version of Reyes.
When these two players are in a jam, rather than looking trapped they
seem intrigued by the possibilities.

Corey's combo on the 9-ball is a good example of why I don't think call
shot rules work at 9 or 10-ball...especially the rules where 'shoot again'
is an option when not making a called shot.
These rules encourage pedestrian thinking and inhibit the imaginative
play of a Deuel or a Reyes. IMO of course

I'd guess Corey was thinking if he missed and sold out the 2 ball the 3 was still tied up so Mika couldn't run out anyway.

It was an awesome shot, but I have to say that the look on Mika's face was even better!

Excellent point! With that logic the OBVIOUS thing to do is bang on the nine (or go for three fouls on Mika). Yet somehow others didn't see it.

Wow what a match it was. Great thinking from Corey. This is the first time ever I have seen a competitive match video and it was a treat. Thanks for sharing.
