You Have To Be Kidding . . .

Rock skipping and belt sander racing on tv over pool = despondent

Can it be fixed?

Best,

I’d like to see it go from skip your rock to stop your rock..the belt sander contest…how long is the coarse?

Actually, Brian, I think the internet is saving pool…and as it gets more popular, maybe companies from outside pool will take note.
Top of the money is over a quarter million…..number ten is over a 100 Gs.
But the most sponsor $$$ is still coming from inside the gave….we need Musk to get involved.
When 64 pros can make a good living…TV will take note.

And no its the age of the players in Pool thats holding the sport back, its the fact that it requires skill. Anybody that can count can play poker, anybody that can find a rock and some water can.., darts, corn hole, tag, agility dogs, spike ball, skill level required for the people participating,
2 on a scale of 10.

I dont understand why Pool isnt covered at least on the amature level? TAP, APA, BCA, Valley have a tremendous following. Black Ball has a great league and has a growing number of players across Africa even in the countries were the resources for equipment isnt good. It seems like that would get someones attention at ESPN if "rock skipping" can!
Golf, F1 driving, tennis, soccer...these are successful at securing fans and viewers because they don't require skill? I think it's because they create a watchable product.

This isn't the 90s. Who honestly watches ESPN?

I remember the heyday and stumbling on a pool match on there, but that was literally the only reason I'd watch that network even then.

I don't want to watch guys chase a ball for hours and honestly don't understand it. Heck, take Superbowl... people talk more about the commercials and half time show than they do about the ball game.

If I want to watch pool, there's this magical thing called youtube, most tvs built in the last decade have it built in.

I’m flipping tv channels up in the sports area of my cable package and on two of the espns are the following:

Rock Skipping Tournament

Belt Sander Racing

This has to be a new low point for pool that we can’t get anyone to televise our sport but they choose things like this instead.

very recently l was sad over there being so much cornhole coverage on tv and now this; Man oh man do we need someone to make the case again for pool to be back on tv.

Is it our demographic that's holding us back, it being almost exclusively 55+ yo males?

I think about the excitement of Mosconi Cup or the just-finished TS final between Sky and Jayson; these seem like they would be perfect for tv.

Cornhole over pool on tv = sad

Rock skipping and belt sander racing on tv over pool = despondent

Can it be fixed?

There was a thread on this very site about tables without side pockets.

Gay bashing commenced and wasn't shut down by this site or members. Bashing the gay basher was shut down by this site.

Good fuckin luck getting sponsors for pool outside of Newsmax with that community.

If that is the community, pool is dead

The future is not ESPN. I would bet even money that they don't exist (in current form) in 20 years. The future is streaming. Content is king. Youtube, Netflix etc. ESPN was a disrupter. Now they are being disrupted. The cable companies are holding on by their finger nails. They are just about two years behind newsprint based publishers.

Cornhole and Rockskippers are probably giving the product away and paying for all the production costs.

Time buys. Those events are being televised because they’ve paid to be televised. Same for Corn Hole outside of early-mid 2020 when sports were on hiatus. Mind you, they’re not on the main channels, they’re on the dregs of the sports channels
It's amazing how few people on the forum seem to understand this.

ESPN is not choosing any secondary sport over pool. The sports that are televised are the ones that pay for the privilege, just as it was for pool when it was on ESPN.

When something viewed as silly by AZB finds its way to ESPN, we invariably get a thread about how far pool has fallen, but whether things like cornhole get airtime or not tells us nothing about the state of pool as a sport.

Pool can get back on ESPN if event producers pay for the TV time and absorb all TV production costs, but even if they do, it won't mean pool as a sport has taken a step forward.

To be fair, as Nick B has observed, cable TV may be on the endangered list and ESPN is the past, not the future.

Yes you are correct Stu.

But would you watch belt sander races?

I would,

See you soon!

Fatboy😃😃<———I mite bring a belt sander to the Derby for side action

Nono, you have to mic it up. It involves the pre-shot routine of lifting of the leg and the sound of the farts
while capturing the look on their faces. You get a bonus if you light the sucker.
If you don't lift the leg properly it could result in a misfire or miscue.

Pool is boring to watch. I would like a Pool Biathlon where during odd games 1,3,5 they fire rifles and see
who could blow apart the most orange 5 balls. I have my money on the Southern Boys, and Fatboy.
Not a chance in hell Fatboy harms an orange 5 ball

The WPBA women players had to pay to be aired.
The deal was upside down.
