That one went completely over my head.

I wrote something and then decided to "delete" it. It doesn't matter now since people have already started the "smoking vs. non-smoking" debate, but I was trying to avoid doing it myself and realized my post might have done that.

I commend all those that are trying to quit. There is no question that if you do, you are buying back days of your life, so the money aspect is just a bonus.

This article may enlighten you a little about some of the myths about smoking.

I have included a nice picture so that you can see the creosote building up in your lungs. A normal lung is nice and pinkish. I made up a gruesome poster of these pictures and some other throat and mouth cancers to hang outside while my husband smokes so that he associated the behavior with the pictures. He took it down. :o

We have been non-smoking here in the Evergreen state for some time now. Imagine my chagrin when I stepped into Capone's in FL a couple weeks ago and smelled that nasty smell, choking my lungs, clouding my vision and drying out my contacts.

There are some bars up here that still have that smell clinging to everything, even though no one has actually been smoking inside. The ceilings are brown where they used to be white.

Then some person wants to be able to see, so they prop the door open, and smoke comes in again, or we freeze our butts off, because they want to smoke theirs!

How about the crowd of smokers lining the front door of every airport, restaurant, bar, casino, etc. ? You have to take a big breath of fresh air and run the gauntlet, and get inside before you can breathe again.

But it is SO much better than having to submit to all the smoke inside. Again, kudos to all those that want to be non-smokers!

Wtf is that. I don't smoke, and I don't really appriciate having to look at those....lol

Scare tactics just don't work to quit smoking, we all know that...they have to be ready to quit for themselves.

Actually, that's how I quit in college. I was working on cadavers and saw black lungs from a smoker and quit right there, even though the amount I smoked was negligible.

I smoked for 49 years but couldn't make it to 50.. missed by a couple months. No gold watch unless you make it the full 50. Guess I'm just a quitter.

Pool halls are smokey, in my local hall, nearly everyone smokes. It's always smokey, I come home smelling like smoke everyday. I'm wondering if there is a majority of pool players that smoke or that do not smoke...let's find out.

Put me on the 'NO' column.

Never smoked on my own nor had any desire to do so but had to deal with second hand smoke most of my formative life years. My dad smoked at home like a chimney and I grew up having allergic rhinitis as a result of it. Never knew what the cause was until I got older and became educated of what to avoid. Dad stopped smoking about 5 or so years ago after seeing his eldest brother get filleted by the surgeon from the neck to just below the belly button due to heart and throat problems. That scared the living daylights out of him especially seeing all the cuts and life support machines everywhere at the ICU. It's sad that people will not stop until they see and feel the suffering. :(

It's relaxing

I usually light up a nice Churchill or Double Corona cigar. ;)

It relaxes me.:D

Hey Purdman,
Thank you for the wishes of luck. I started smoking when I was 13 years old and I am now 28. I have been smoking for over half of my life and I have quit for periods of time before. When I started smoking - it was 1.95 a pack. Yesterday I paid 6.00 even for a pack. There are two things that are motivating me to quit. One is the health of my body and the other is the health of my bank account. It is 2200.00 bucks a year to smoke at 6.00 a pack. How stupid it would be to keep going. My wife and I are quitting together. I know we can do it. Anyways thanks again for the encouragement.

Let's see. For $2200 a year, that would be a very nice custom cue for each year you stop. Not to mention the expected health costs plus interest. Some collection you'll be having bout 10 yrs from now. Else, you'll be buying a case with a special pocket for an oxygen tank, a cart and a T-holder for the breathing hose. Your call! Me, I'd opt for the custom cues or exotic vacations. ;)

Reality bites. IMO, this is a very helpful article - factual and lets the readers decide for themselves. Would be nice if you can show a picture of a healthy lung and/or a picture of a person once healthy and then the aftermath from smoking.

I am married and she loves pool just as much as I do if not more but I highly doubt that money will be going towards pool cues - at least not for me lol. I would much rather spend it on her than me anyways. She is worth every penny. I am very excited to feel healthier and happier. Thank you all for your encouragement. It is not easy but it is very very possible.

Dude, if you love her, you'll quit. Spend the money on an exotic vacation. Dang, if that's your ol' lady in the picture, you got yourself a dead ringer Angelina Jolie. BTW, with a main squeeze like that, I'd especially watch out for anybody offering unlimited smokes, drinks and drugs. They're hurring you to your grave so they can take your spot. :D

Of course that is her in my avatar, if it wasn't I would be in HUGE trouble! lol. We are quitting together. There is probably quite a few guys around here that want me to drop dead soon! lol

As for crosseyed Joe "LOL, just like last 2 Fridays" You are almost right - very close. Thank you for the luck.

I never picked up smoking, despite heavy peer pressure in my teens. I smoke a good cigar every now and then when I'm celebrating. Here in Finland the legislation is changing more and more towards non-smoking bars and discos and I'm happy. Grew up in poolrooms where everyone was smoking and I got used to it, but I guess it has done some damage already. The fact that smoke doesn't bother me proves a point here I guess...

Smoking bans are ridiculous....the government should keep their noses outta business owners business. If bar A allows smoking, and you can't handle it...go to bar B that is smoke free. But, by all means, let the business owners decide. What's next? The government telling restaurants what they can or can't serve as food? Oh, wait, that's happening too...trans-fat. You have every right to not go into any business that either allows smoking or serves food that'll eventually kill you. What's wrong with that? Do you really need the government to step in?

BTW, I too don't like coming home after league smelling like smoke, but I still play because it is MY choice to...I don't HAVE to. And, I'm sure this will shock some, but I am a non-smoker. Give the government an inch, and they'll take a mile. Would it be better if nobody smoked, or ate fatty foods, or actually got off the couch and exercised a little???? Sure!! Should the government have a part in it? NOPE! I'll quit with the rant now, but I couldn't help myself.
in your example of eating and smoking ! I when going into a restaurant choose the menu item I want ! I am not ingesting your sloppy joe at the same time just because you sat next to me and chose to make a poor gastronomical choice ! So their is a very distinct difference in my having to inhale your body toxins and second hand smoke just because I would like to have equal access to my recreation of choice ! :(
between us , you might look at being as concerned about your health and longevity as you are about your clothes getting smoky

Couldn't find any before and after pics (we all know what the before pics look like, lol); I guess you just need to go into any pulmonary ward to see the afters.

This site is terrific to help you quit and this particular popup shows the anatomy of male and female smokers and what happens when you smoke to different areas of the body.

Ask the Canadians, they have the craziest picture/smart-ass message on cigarette pack ever.

Ok... this message probably didn't tickle anyone's curiosity, but could you tell me (at least) what's that smart-ass message please... before I lose my mind ! :)

Good luck to all who wants to stop smoking. It's not that hard as long as you keep your mind of it.

For those who doesn't want to smoke, well here's something from my personal experience that'll sound nice too you guys. Back in high school I had pneumonia in 3rd year, and then acute bronchitis in 4th yr. A year later I started smoking, and for the 5 years that I was smoking, I never had anything other than a sorethroat. Then I stopped Last August, and before you know it, I had pneumonia once again in October. :p Smoking must have had a weird effect on me.
