Wow, Keith!!!! Does Jenny know you wore that outside??? LOL. ;)

Best of luck to you WARRIOR!!! I can't make it this year since I have to play with my team in Baltimore but will be thinking of you & waiting to hear results.

Keith you wear that to the open... you'll be the favorite to win! No one could keep their composure. I can't look at that pic without laughing, I couldn't imagine trying to make a ball with you in my line of sight.

Archer is red hot and probably playing the best 9-ball in the world, but the open has always been tough for him.

Keith is like me(on a MUCH higher level), he just needs to decide that he wants to win, and then he is capable of beating all of those guys as he showed us last year. But, he can't be comfortable with 3rd place like last year and give up.

Efren and Busta, well honestly, I think that they can win any time they want to, so I wouldn't be afraid to bid on either one of them a little in the calcutta.

If this was 1997, I would just give the title to Rodney.

Earl is a Gold Crown winner, I don't think we'll see him win the open as long as they are playing on Diamond tables. I know that sounds stupid, but we haven't seen him in the winners circle of any of these tournaments played on the Diamond tables.

Hopefully we won't get tortured by a Kid Delicious/Jeremy Jones final, they would have to add an extra day to the open.

Look out for the veterans. With a combination of sheer desire to win, years of seasoning and some nice rolls, we could easily see someone who hasn't yet won the open in the finals. ie Jim Rempe.

Although mentally he's a little weak, if he stays on the winners side, Jose Garcia is capable of beating anyone in the world and is subject to do at any time. He came close many times last year, and I know he wants to win a tournament.

My official pick to win the open is Alex Pagulayan.

Pagulayan should be the top seed with Archer not far behind. McCready & Jones are the darkhorses of the entire group along with Garcia & Robles (if he decides to play) and don't forget Sambjon. Rempe will never win any major tournaments because he just wants the money and the fire to win has left him. Buddy Hall could do some damage as well. If (and I mean IF) Sigel plays and stays focused, he will be in the top 8 along with McCready. It is great to see Trojan has sponsored Keith at this years US Open, congragulations

Is Thomas Engert playing? Cause if he is, he's a shoe-in the way he's been playing lately. Pagulayan is probably my next choice, and lastly Bustamante, because he sorely needs to win something, anything, this year.

I would not count Jeremy Jones out for a repeat.
He's been hitting them pretty good lately.
I would not pick any of the players fresh from the WPM
to do too well.

Bustamante defeated Souquet 11-6 in the US Open warm-up event in Maryland.

My top 6 for the US Open are:

Bustamante
Souquet
Sambajon
Pagulayan
Archer
Morris

Look for high finishes from Mike Davis, Ryan McCreesh and Young Hwa Jeong.

I'll pick Bustamante to win it.

What a sensation that it would be if John Morton won! That would be the inspiration for groups, towns, leagues and teams to get behind their best players and send them to the US Open. Imagine the Open with a thousand players. I am a firm believer in the power of the masses and small contributions to engineer change.

I think there is room in all big tournament for underdog participants who are sponsored by their communities.

GO RUDE DOG. Hey BCN if you are listening to this: it would be a real good human interest story to show some or all of one of John's matches and discuss how he got there.

Trivia Question: Who was the last "unknown" without any otherwise major title beforehand that won the US Open. Hint: He juggles.

first of all, THE WORLD can get the 6 out in juggling the pool balls like Tommy does, and that includes mike massey.

who doesn't love TK.

However, I do believe that the last dark horse, unknown, never won a major title player to win the US Open was Reed Pierce in 1995. The following year, 1996 Rodney Morris won the open, and even though everybody knew he played jam up, I think it was his first major win. Prior to that he placed second to Jim Rempe in Valley Forge, and he may have actually won or was in the finals of a Sands Regency event.

If John Schmidt can manage not to break his cue on a wall after a round of late night betting, I think he would stand a pretty solid chance of walking away with it....

The top twelve or more guys are so very good that on any given day they can all beat each other. To string together that many victories in a big tourney is the difficult part. I think it would be hard to pick any "favorite", but I would also like to see Earl and Archer in the finals, or the trojan warrior

The top 15 real threats to win the US Open:

Morris,
Pagulayan,
Bustamante,
Reyes,
Souquet,
Archer,
Jones,
Chamat,
Hwa Jong,
Bryant,
Immomen,
Strickland,
Schmidt,
Sambjon,
Parcia

8 players most likey to win:
Morris,
Pagulayan,
Bustamante,
Archer,
Jones,
Strickland,
Reyes,
Chamat,

Final 4 at US Open: Pagulayan - Archer - Strickland - Morris

Finals: Johnny Archer V. Earl Strickland

Winner: Archer 11-8 over Strickland

How is that for a prediction. We will have to wait and see, but I think I am close to being on the money after looking at the soft brackets.

Yowser! Other than the WPC, the toughest field of the year in pool was at the BCA Open. Tony Robles won it undefeated, beating Johnny Archer and Rodney Morris along the way. Tony Robles clearly belongs on your list! FYI, Vbookie has him as the seventh favorite based on the odds.

I had picked Robles, Jones and Garcia along with Sambajon as darkhorses to win the us open earlier in this thread. With that being said this is a race to 11 and not a race to 5 or 7 as in the BCA out in Vegas and there is no shot clock to contend with. Out of the above mentioned, J. Jones has the only experience of winning a large field tourament. I still stick with my perdictions on this event. The only exception is Strickland in the finals v. Archer. It could well be Archer V. ? this year.
