Your height and cue length

Is there a common formula for personal height and the length a cue should be ???? I know someone will probally say some short people use long cues and some tall people use shorter cues, but I think in that case it was just because they were only exposed to what was not suitable for them and got use to it. I suppose if you were 7' and only had a Volkswagon you would get to where you could drive it......Thanks for any reply

Yes, but the drive probably wouldnt be very comfortable.

Ive read a few formulas but never put much confidence in them. Didnt even bother to comitt them to memory. How tall are you?

The length of a cue is best determined by someone's armspan not their height. I believe 80% of your armspan should give you a starting point for your overall cue length.

You mean I should be using a 53" Q. (66.25" x .80 = 53").
The most important thing to remember, is to have your grip hand hanging straight down, when the tip is at address position. I saw a guy last night who is about 5'7". He was hanging onto the Q at the end of the butt. He didn't not need a longer Q, he needs a lesson on how to hold the Q..JER

For most players a 58 inch cue works fine. I have a 87 1/2 inch arm span. With my grip arm straight down at contact I would often be holding the cue close to the butt. Doing so really changes the balance of nice cue. I just purchased a Super Sixty WD 1020 Dominiak cue. The difference for me is amazing.

Height isn't the only factor either. Your stance and bridge play a role in determining where you grip the cue as well. I've built a bunch of 62" cues and some even longer. I think most cuemakers don't go past 60" because their materials are seldom aquired or made to lengths that facilitate making them longer.
Someone with a stance a foot or two wider than most shouldn't have to settle for a cue only an inch or two longer, IMO.

60 inch cues

i had andy gilbert make a 60" cue for me about 2 years ago, i'm 6'7" and i was fine with a 58" cue but that longer length cue really is an advantage for taller players, the amount of reach you gain on different shots around the table is great.

I'm 6'3" and shoot with 60" cues, which seem natural to me. I can shoot with a 58" cue but the 60" just seems more natural.

You are the exact reason that there are custom cue builders. Most cue manufacturers build many cues to standard specs that fit 99 % of the population. Most of these cues are built great and it would be hard to have one built better. BUT, everyone doesn't fit the standard profile so they either must adapt or have something built to your specs. This, of coarse, costs much more as it is individually built.

I'm 6'2" and I place my hand on the buttcap past the linen (cue measuring 58"). Maybe I could try a 59" or 60"..

everyones stance is different.

you should have a 6-8 inch bridge then about 6 inches of cue hanging out the back. if you rare 6 ft tall you should have a made longeramybe 59''. 6'3'' at 60''. calculating doesnt matter. i just watch the person play. i know what they need that way.

my friend gene id 6'3'' or taller and plays with a 58'' cue. he looks akward.
another friend i made a 59'' cue and hes perfect with it. hes 6'1''

efren is 5'7'' i plays with 60''+ but he uses a 12 inch bridge

i try to fit the cue to your style of play
