Your Opinion On These Break Cues

I have been searching around on the forum looking for an inexpensive break cue. I haven't been playing long so I want to start out with a slightly less expensive break cue and work my way up to what I want based on what I learn by using these break cues.

That being said, I wanted some opinions on a few of these. I know there are tons that I am not listing that are in the same price range but I want to try and get info about these specific cues. What I am looking for is your opinion on the best as far as playability, what flaws the cues have and what are their strong points.

1. Poison VX 2.9 j/b
-I know the plastic strips and rubber pieces break or fall apart on these but other than that I have seen these to be a great option for their price point.

2. Pechauer Power Break
-I have a Pechauer as my main shooting cue and it is absolutely amazing. Don't see too many people using the breakers though... I worry this is because of a flaw they may have? Or maybe the price? I think that considering its a Pechauer it's pretty reasonably prices even though its 100.00 more than these other two that I am listing. Need more info on this one.

3. Mike Gulyassy (sp?) Orange Crusher
-I've been told that this is a favorite amongst alot of players for the price. I don't know anyone that uses it though so it's hard to get opinions on the quality of the cue and how well it performs. Your thoughts?

These are not the only three options that I am considering but they are some cues that I am interested in but have found a lack of information on. The poison, I did find a good bit of info on but I have seen alot of mixed reviews on that one, so it would be nice to get some clarification.

Thanks alot!

ive only tried one of these cues, the poison vx. its pretty popular around here because it breaks and jumps great for its price. i didnt have any problem controlling the cb on the break, jumps came pretty easy.

another friend installed another tip on it (i think G10) and it eaven broke better

only thing i didnt like about it was the handle (and the colors, but thats matter of taste)

Of the three choices, I only have only used the VX2.9 jump/break, and it's not bad.
For a break cue only I have heard that the Orange Crush is pretty good.
For $100 the Dawgfather from Pooldawg is good, measureman uses one and he's a production cue genius.

If I was looking for a good inexpensive jump/break, I would check out J&J.

to be honest I actually think the handle is one of the best parts of the Poison VX 2.9. I found that the rubber grip helps me alot... I get a much better grip and my hand doesnt slide at all where as with some other break cues with an irish linen wrap, I tightened my hand when I came forward but felt that I didnt have as firm of a grip on it as I would have had with the Poison VX 2.9. I also like wrapless cues as well. My dislike of Irish Linen limits my choices on the break cues.

Yes, cuesblues, I definitely agree that J&J makes a ridiculously awesome cue for the price and I actually am going to buy one of those as well for a backup/barbreaker. I've been told that if you put a white diamond tip on the J&J that they are monsters. However, I still want to pick up another break cue and start working my way up to the perfect break cue that fits me best. Thanks alot for the J&J reference though. The reason I didn't add it is because I know that everyone loves them because they produce such good quality at that price and I already knew that they are a sure winner :D

Perfect, when I send my snapped Poison Venom shaft back to Predator for a new one, I'll make you a deal...
It is a black VX2.9 / Venom shaft.

I never thought about it before, but I have 2-Ernie Martinez j/b, a Lomax j/b & jump set that I've never hit a ball with, an old Stinger j/b, a new Kevin Varney j/b, and a Showcase, but the only one with a wrap (grip) is the Poison.

Players Pure X HXT P1 with samsara tip, good break/jump cue and masse shot too, the price is sooo cheap for a good break cue:thumbup:

I almost listed the Players HXT series j/b cues. Players has always made a good cue for the price but I figured that was kinda expensive for a players cue for the price and I really wasn't sure what to think about it. I guess I thought that considering your average Players break cue is around 70-80 new and at the price for the new HXT cues, I could just get myself an Orange Crusher, VX 2.9 or a Pechauer Power Break :D.

And yeah, cuesblues, I am in the market for a j/b cue (hence the reason I posted the thread to get info). Was just going to trade a Meucci HOF-1 shooting cue for one but may consider paying cash or cue + cash for a nice break cue. Guess it depends on what comes my way and who is looking for what.

Bought an Omega J/B a while back for about a $100, and haven't looked back since. Has a G10 tip and breaks really hard. Jumping is also very easy with it.

I have and love the Pechauer break cue. It's forward weighted which is odd to some, but it took all of 5 breaks or so to get used to.

Edit to add: It has a black diamond tip and not a phenolic ... I do not care for phenolic tips at all. I like the feel I get with the black diamond.

I have an Orange Crusher break cue. I use it to hold my bridge head. For actual breaking, I like my Mace J/B by Rick Howard.

I'm Loving my Pechauer Breaker...but I didn't like the original tip that came on it...
It was too hard for me to control the cueball...

So, I changed it to one of the Soaked and Pressed Triangle tips...and WOW, the stiffness and forward weight of the cue is just Blasting the rack! And, I'm squatting whitey-center table, on a really regular basis!!!!

To me, it's the perfect breaker for my game!

Good Luck with your search...

And, there was a Pechauer Breaker in the forsale section, for 150 or 160...that's a steal from what I paid!

A good friend has a simple Players break cue. I've hit with it enough to know it works. Great bang for the buck.

As for myself, I got lucky. A fellow league player offered me a very clean 20 oz. Dufferin house cue that had been converted to a 1-piece breaker....complete with a nice ferrule and White Diamond tip.

I stole it for $35 and it looks non-descript, but hits like a hammer. I still get great CB control with it, but I also put in some time with the BreakRak. So, my break plays well on good equipment.

Nothing against any big name production or custom cues, but if you're looking for a great breaker for the buck, you certainly have budget options.

Someday, when I have a lot of extra cash, I might spring for a Lomax, Gilbert or other high end custom breaker, but I'm definitely happy with what I currently use.

Awesome info guys I really appreciate it. That's good to hear the opinions on those cues and the others mentioned and it will definitely help me with my decision that's for sure. If anyone else has any info, I can always use more and thanks to everyone who pmed me about break cues you are selling. If anyone else is selling a nice breaker especially one of the ones I mentioned, feel free to pm me. I am definitely looking to get one asap.

Cheap Break Cue

For a cheap break cue, you can not beat the J&J Break/jump cue. And if you don't like the phenolic tip, just have a milk dud put on it. I have bought 2 of them, and mine has 2 shafts, one with the phenolic ferrule/tip and I had a super 'dub' tip put on the other shaft.

You can buy them for $65. It doesn't get any better than that.

My Pechauer break does a bang up job. And the fact that it has a leather tip means there is no issue with using it in any league or competition.

Yeah I'm definitely leaning toward a pechauer now. I'm going to make a buying decision and just buy something on Friday I'm just worried about making a good choice, lol.

When it comes down to Poison vs Pechauer for playability aand performance and not price. What would you guys go with?

White CueTec 18 oz. NEW TIP?

I break with an 18 CueTec. White model. I have been playing a loooong time and this cue breaks ok. I was wondering if I put a diamond tip on it would it make a big difference. Any suggestions on a good tip for breaking would be appreciated. Need to know ASAP.
