Well, a half-ball-hit-straight-in-shot is tough, but a 3/4-ball-hit-straight-in-shot is possible with chalk in the right place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHLgTS3s4Ko

Well thanks to a pocket nail at my local room my 7ball in my set of centennials has a huge chunk out of it... So for PJ I am spotting the 7 with the chunk positioned appropriately :thumbup2: I'd reposition it for the OP's aiming but that may make his idea of halfball have a chance LOL
As pointed out by Bob Byrne, this puts your cue stick over some part of the corner pocket which I think is the easiest way to judge the position. The cue ball is certainly nowhere near frozen to the long rail except for very, very liberal interpretations of "frozen."
