Your perfect pool hall?

"No bar, no pinball machines, no bowling alleys, just pool. Nothing else. This is what I want mister."

Except I wouldn't mind a bar. Not a huge one, but one that seats about a dozen people.

I also don't want TV's in the room, though one small one near the bar is OK, and that's it. Same thing with music. I love it, but absolutely no jukeboxes. The owner needs control of the music, and it should only be played in the late evenings, and it needs to blend in with the room, not obtrusively take center stage. NO LIVE BANDS, not even on Saturday nights. Period.

As far as tables, 9-footers only. Sorry, no coin-op tables in my world. Leave those to the bars that *happen* to have a pool table.

I'm not particular about tables, but I do like Brunswick Crown tables. Felt should be green, (maybe blue) and the balls need to MATCH. No mismatched sets. Not sure why this is a problem.

There should also be some room for spectators to sit and drink. I imagine the tables all in the center of the room with a railing around the perimeter. On the outside of this perimeter ther can be cocktail tables, or booths, or what have you for those not currently playing or just watching.

No smoking. Sorry, I know this is problem with a lot of folks, but smoking is banned where I live anyway.

Still, no matter what kind of room there is, it comes down to the clientele that fill the space. They are truly what makes a pool hall a community, and they make it a place to enjoy spending time.

First I would like someone to run the pool who is a pool player. Someone who understands the importance of maintaining the equipment, clean tables, clean ball, good chalk etc.
A couple of tight pocket tables for practice and money matches.
Reasonable prices for that geographic location, including flat rates for the regulars. I know one place that charges $50 a month to practice all you want by yourself as long as tables are available. A bar to help pay the rent and make a profit for the owner. Some good food. Soft music. Some good TVs to watch the sports. Comfortable high chairs. A viewing area to watch the money matches.

The days of "Ames" are gone. Rents too high. You need more than pool to bring in customers. The "regulars" only want a flat rate and free coffee. They don't spend any money on anything else.

Big Screen T.V.'s, Great Food, good looking wait staff w/ all there teeth..lol..
Diamond Pro pool tables both 9 and 8 footers...
Onwer with great people skills and knowledge of the game of pool...
Daily specials and weekly pool tourneys....
A variety of sports to play, like darts, foosball, video games etc....
A respected house pro that gives lessons and is sponsored by the Bar...
ALso a cue repairman that can fix anything...

Did i mention hot waitresses and bartenders...=))

In MA we has an almost perfect pool hall, Brighton Billiards. In a basement, smoke hovering around the lights, 8 perfectly kept GCIII with shimmed pockets, long waiting lists with people playing chess for money while waiting. A nice selection of A level players to play and learn from, usually a DJ there playing music. No college kids in the way of your shot every minute because they are crouding 8 deep around one table with beers. That's about as good of a room as I can think of, unless you add in a stripper area and move the place within a block of my house.

the perfect room would have lots of tables 7's 8's 9's and 10's
a billiard table and a 12 foot snooker table.
cheap beers and cheap table time
Lots of action
Lots of chicks (hot ones)
a full kitchen, not just frozen pizzas and popcorn.
Pinball, foosball, and darts.(in its own section)
It would be a smoking room, with good ventilation
the biggest pro shop in the country.
a good mix of music, not too loud though.
weekley tournaments, regional tournaments and leagues
and it would be open 24 hrs

It would have to be huge though. My ideal hall would be the size of 2 story warehouse and would be packed 24 hours a day.

My perfect pool hall:

25 gold crown v 9' with green simionis and aramith pro cup set (including measel cb) ball set
delta racks
the X bridge heads on all the bridge sticks(black)
blue master chalk of course

10 diamond 9' tables with green simions 860 with the dymond wood racks and the aramith set.

5 diamond bar boxes.
lucasi house cues
and plenty of room between tables, a full bar....and the seating would be raised around the tables with like a wood rail /round table for drinks and eating and that would also be the smoking section.pro shop, clean bathrooms that has speakers playing whats playing on the jukebox in the room.

the jukebox would have only blues, classic rock, good country,r&b (al green, marvin gaye, smokey robinson....etc.

and $5 an hour for the gold crown and the diamond tables, $1 a game on the barbox.

sorry for the long post.

I live in Orlando, Florida and get free pool whenever I want at Trick Shots Rosemont. I've been playing league there for over a year. It's more of a bar than a poolhall, but it's my home away from home.

We do have a really nice poolhall about 45 minutes away called Corner Pocket Billiards.
They have about twenty 9 footers, two 8 footers, a snooker table, and a 3 cushion billiards table. They also have the beads over some of the tables so you can play some straight pool.
And one thing I really like about the place is that they have smoking and non-smoking rooms!
The table time is pretty reasonable too-- $4 an hour.
Too far to drive though.:frown:

pool room

Well for the old timers, i would like a room with 6 old bruwnick 9ft ,no jukebox no women, and the BEST DAM HOT DOGS AROUND!!!!

Would like a billiard table - but unless it is in a large city most owners feel a billiard table won't pay for itself especially if you get a waitin list and the billiard table is just sittin there.

Question - re status of pool in Dallas - I thought Bob Vanover, Dick Lane, and CJ Wiley owned large rooms there and they were good places to play.

CJ no longer owns his place, CJ's Billiard Palace, and it has become very sketchy and run-down since then. It used to be the premier place to play pool. I don't know about Bob or Dick's place.

All we have now is Billiard Den, 2 Clicks, and Hawley's. There is MUCH room for improvement.

That's just amazing. 6.50 over here. At one point I had to get a job cleaning tables just to be able to play.

oh yeah and and a small apartment above or behind the pool hall for players to rest or sleep one off

My perfect pool room (kinda what I hope heaven looks like) is full of girls. Each just as beautiful as the next. All of them like to play pool, but none of them like to wear shirts (strange, I know). Every day, a different pro walks in and beats me out of all my cash (luckily, I'm rich so I don't have to worry about the money). They serve a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages including Slushies. They also serve lobster, shrimp, sushi, and filet mignot. It has a single giant screen TV. It's always playing some variety of nostalgic cartoon I used to watch as a child (i.e. Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Flintstones). Each day a different DJ comes in and spins some trance because I run out best when listening to techno.

I think that's about it.

Edit: Oooops, I forgot about the tables. I don't care much how many there are as long as the one I want is always vacant. But it'll need at least a few of each 6x12, 5x10, 5x10 billiard, 4.5x9, 3.5x7....tight pockets on all of them of course.

One more thing that would be cool, I'd like a resident philosopher/economist/historian/mathematician for some good conversation.
I would have to say that is a bit eclectic.

Yeah 4 bucks an hour is relatively cheap.
They cater mostly to the college crowd, being close to UCF & VCC.

I spend more time at my poolhall than most of the employees that work there.
They say I should have my own bed there.
That would be nice.

You must be in Thomasville. Those hot dogs are addictive! We have to get some everytime we come through. I understand you not wanting us women... if I ever came there to play, there would be some wounded male egos! ;)
