I asked two of my granddaughters (14 yo & 17 yo) why they gave up pool for softball. Both said the same thing. There is no money in pool and pool donesn't give any full scholarships for it in the US. The 17 yo said, “I’d much rather take a chance on softball to get a full scholarship (which she did) and go to college and become what I want.”

Her 14 yo sister is going to be better than her IMO. She’s looking to get a scholarship for journalism from softball. Neither of them plays video games, and both are “A” students. Johnnyt

Tada!

It's wonderful to see the youth of today make intelligent choices about life and their future! I'm sure your very proud of them for the choices they've made. I hope they continue on the same path as they are apparently on and realize their goals with much success!

Yes I am, and thank you. Johnnyt

Johnnyt,

I am not sure why youth don't play. One of the reasons I have come up with in my area is that youth are not allowed to play in the bars. They can't practice there, play in smaller tournaments, etc.

For me, the closest pool room is 1 hour from my house one way. This does make it hard to bring them for a one day tournament or practice. Luckly we have tables at home and both my kids enjoy the sport. We also make it a family event and I think it helps keep them involved. My kids have come to the state tournaments with me and we try to make as many youth tournament as possible. We are even going to Las Vegas for ACS this year and both kids will be playing 9 ball and 8 ball. I can't wait for them to see all the tables lined up in a row.

Tryinig to do my part to keep kids in pool.

Good for you JMP. A family that does things together seem to turn out good kids. Doesn't matter if it's pool, baseball, bowling, or whatever. Johnnyt

They can't quit playing...the only way to pay for college is with pool....that's how we all did it :D

Sounds like they are smart girls....good luck to both of them....

I hope they do try to get a few games a week....college females that can shoot pool could make some easy money IMHO....way too many guys with way too much money and an even bigger ego will be happy to donate to them....
