That first guy, Charlie Peterson, cracks me up. He was like all agro and irritated like some angry teacher who was fed up with his misfit students. :lol:

I like that "know it all" tone of voice while telling everyone to hold the cue at the balance point -- but that's they way it was speaking and shooting wise "back in the day".
 
I like Willie Hoppe's stroke, about as unconventional by today's standards as you can get. Even Keith isn't that side arm.

Jake Schaefer played like that too, so did Ralph Greenleaf, I believe, to a certain extent.
 
Short bridges too, especially on Hoppe and Peterson. Crane looked like Busty compared to the other two guys.

While Shaefer Jr and Hoppe had the sidearm stroke, Greeleaf did not. The belief comes from photos where he would pose, for effect, with his arm sticking out of the side. It looked more dramatic. He had the conventional pendulum.

The sidearm came from Shaefer and Hoppe, both starting very young, under the tutelege of Professor Lansing Perkins.

That is interesting. I don't know why but the technique does look very stylish. There was a video available a while ago of Schaefer playing, too bad it has recently been taken down.
