what do you guys think about using a Predator Z shaft for 3 cushion?
I have one that I'm not using and figured I could use it. although I dont know if the Z shaft can withstand the forces of the bigger and heavier balls. I dont want to shatter a shaft that cost me $200 :)

I think they are guaranteed. In any case, a Z shaft will have reduced squirt compared to a standard shaft and this can help on maximum spin shots. I don't think shattering is a problem.

maybe I'll try it out until Predator comes out with a carom dedicated shaft. I play pool with a 314 shaft.. and I cant stand the deflection that my conical shaft gives me on my 3 cushion shaft. anyway.. Bob.. I remember a long tima ago.. Robert Burnes used to write 3 cushion articals for billiards digest.. do you know where I could find them?

Seven , You might email Billiards Digest and ask about Byrnes 3 Cushion articles. I also believe Bill Smith wrote articles for Billiards Digest. Carl Conlon wrote a column in late '60's/ early '70's for "The National Billiard News". Present day Paul Frankel's "ProfessorQBall" magazine is who cover 3 Cushion the best.

I've used a Predator P2 with a Z2 shaft for 3-cushion since January without problems. I've pretty much decided that it's a permanent replacement for my 12+ year old Schuler. I bought a 29" and a 30" for comparison, and so far I prefer the 30".

I tried a borrowed 314 for a while and it was nice, but I'm glad I picked up the Z2. I like the smaller diameter, and it supposedly has less squirt as well.

The only difference I've noticed so far is that I find it harder to jump balls with the Z2.

I overlooked this question from way back when...

Many of Robert Byrne's articles were republished in his two books, "Advanced Technique in Pool and Billiards" and "Wonderful World of Pool and Billiards." For the articles that didn't go there, I think you will have to find old copies of Billiards Digest. WWoP&B included articles from BD right up to almost the publication date of the book -- I'm specifically thinking about the article on the "opposite 3" system.

Carom is so different to pool that deflection with a super stiff cone tapered 3C cue will be the least of your problems.

I use Z2 for pool. At 3C, it vibrates too much. At snooker, it feels hollow and the tip is way too big. Don't be fooled by 11.75mm diameter and short ferrule. This shaft was meant to be used for pool exclusively.

Check with your local Library first - they have copies of mags going back
several years. BD might be too much to hope for though.
