Never saw this before - ball dropped when I touched the table

So after playing pool for 30+ years, I saw something new at the table today and I have no idea what the rule is. Playing 8 ball, my opponent missed his shot (he was solids) and it was my turn. He had bumped one of my striped balls right into the mouth of a corner pocket and left the cue ball on...

    Marie's Golden Cue Chicago

So sad when I heard about this place closing. It was a true old-school gem of a pool hall. Wish I had heard about it closing sooner, as I would have attended the closing event. Does anyone know what they plan to do with all those old tables and equipment?

    Good Cue Deal?

Not sure why this seller is dumping these cues so cheap, but anywhere else (Amazon/E-Bay/etc.) these go for over $80. $35 for 19oz - McDermott Cue - Black Widow Cue BWS2 11 left in stock. I got one for the heck of it, and it's a straight and fine stick, particularly for the price...

    future in pocket billiards

Pool needs a lot more than a Tiger Woods. As far as I can tell, kids today don't even know what pool is. Every pool hall around me has gone out of business over the last five years. The few sports-bars with pool tables that remain at a distance survive by catering to APA leagues and sports bar fans.

    Closed Bridge Knuckles

Yeah, the style-B, which apparently some call the "pinoy style bridge" (learn something new every day) is what I was recently told to try out as an "improved bridge" over style-A. I did some search on YouTube, and I see a lot of videos out there teaching people to make a closed bridge with...

    Closed Bridge Knuckles

How are your index-finger knuckles bent when making a closed bridge? I have been making my closed bridge with my index-finger knuckles bent in a certain way for years, but recently a Chicago-area pool player who is old friends with many Pro players told me that I've been doing it an inferior...

Return of my lost pool cue

Congrats on getting it back. A friend of mine found a Schon up on the rack with the house cues near the end of a night at a bar. They took it home and came back the next day seeking the person who forgot it. She found the guy, who was so grateful for getting his cue back. He said it was a gift...

    APA wins Guinness World Record

270,366 members? That's a lot of people paying only $6 a week to play pool ($1,622,196/week)+ $25/year ($6,759,150/year). Congrats to the APA for growing in this pool-downturn.

    questions on cleaning a cue?

I tried the product Q-Clean for the first time ever last month and it did a good job. It took all the blue off of the shaft and ferrule.

    New Cue

I think I just enjoy being unique... I wouldn't buy a Schon cause they are just too damn common. Not a big fan of their look either.

Why is the APA so frowned upon?

I played in APA for a while. It has plenty of room for improvement... the biggest problem I have with it in my local league is that too many of the bars we play in only have one table. It sucks hanging out all night just to play one set. Still, the APA is one of the only things doing pretty...

    Camera recommendations?

After studying many reviews, I recently went with a Sony Cybershot DSCH55 14.1MP. Great camera. I think it's on sale right now at Target.

    Gentlemen Moves

For non-smoking pool rooms... If you are in the middle of a set, don't go out for a smoke break or even ask for one if the person you are playing is a non-smoker. Agree on headphones being very annoying. Go play with yourself if you are so insistent on tuning out the rest of the room. And...

aiming systems r like a weight loss plan

Getting your body on the right line is something I was taught years ago, and Bert Kinister went over this concept in great detail in his "Fundamentals" video. But it was never referred to as an "aiming system". Pool teachers I know just call it "stepping into the shot". Aligning your body...

Banking with the Beard - PROBLEM

So I recently picked up the book Banking with the Beard and I have a problem with it. I have found some of "The foundations" information to be wrong in my experiments to test some theories. Perhaps this is something unique to my table (I'll test this on other tables as soon as I'm able), but so...

aiming systems r like a weight loss plan

Great comparison. I have known two good Pool Players for years, X & Y. X does the following: - Watches pool on TV - Studies Pool DVDs - Reads books on pool - Contributes to azbilliard forum. - Keeps his cue in tip-top shape - practices - plays pool Y does the following - plays pool - uses a...

    Joss or Schon

Not really a fan of Joss or Schon. With Joss, note the difference between a "Joss" a "Joss East" and a "Joss West".

    Chalk?

I've never felt the need to stray from Masters. I make sure to always have one handy, in case I'm playing somewhere that has bad chalk (like Mizerak chalk)

I can't decide. Both are great. If you have the room and money, get both!
