Joe Rogan And Pool ???

I don't know if he is a helpful representation of our game.
His 'person' has more of a Rough tought type bar room Feel.
I by no means don't like the man, and in his game I like him allot, he's clear, too the point and asks good question. BUT
It doesn't seem helpful for our ''green felt sport''/gambling..... his feel is more of a rough/tough UFC/rowdy type delivery.
I can't see him representing the PGA to create any Good for their sport.
What's your Opinion?

Gorst dishes on US Open, lopsided prize funds, long race with Filler

tournament directors would do more for pool if they gave invites to celebrities with entry, and free room and board or at least something.

then a chance for some video or tv coverage then or in the future.

and companies like predator. imagine getting a celeb playing on video of some kind with your cue brand and maybe shirt.

like a sports figure. or movie star.

and have a celebrity tournament. just them.

small tight pockets in one pocket good or bad?

I’m not so sure that what the pros play on has squadousch to do with the vast majority of us here or anywhere else.

And, having been to my share of big events, I’m not so sure smaller pockets are as prevalent as some here are trying to say.

Having said that, there was a time in my life when I would practice with pool balls on a 10’ Brunswick snooker table; beaten the locals on 4” pockets on their pet 1pocket table at Comet Billiards in NJ; and won a local 1pocket event in St Louis when we briefly had a room on the East side with 4” pockets.

IOWs, I get it, but when the pockets are too small it’s not pool and it ain’t teeing off the black tees. You end up having to play something else.

I do think that professional level specs should play a part in what equipment is used, but at the end of the day it’s really up to you. Baseball moved the mound, but not for little league. NBA moved the 3 point line but not for college. You can play on whatever you think suits you best that’s the beauty of it. Maybe play on valley bar tables with 5” pockets then I’m sure you’ll feel good about your game. I like the challenge personally. You can fit your game to the equipment, or you can fit the equipment to your game.

Pro Pocket Size TOO Small for 9 Ball

For pros on fresh cloth 4” seems fine to me or at a push 4.25”. For clubs I agree a little larger compensates for old cloth, unevenness, humidity etc.

My experience playing in Southern Japan. The serious competition tables at our club have 4” pockets with one at 3.9”. I ran a 3-pack only twice last year.

However, I mostly play 14.1 on the “generous” tables with roughly 4.375” pockets. My top score is only 67 so I truly think switching to a 4.9” corner-pocket table as Shaw used for his record would enable me to get over 100 pretty quickly. On rainy days, if I get a couple of scores over 20 an hour, I consider it good as the balls stick together no matter what break I use.

This Is What I'm Talking About

yea about 25% for the pros as an average on their faster new equipment.

now go to just decent to good amateur players. i bet it isn't 5%. varying of course on their ratings and how easy multiple balls drop on that table..

and how many times does the break cost them the game?

the break is not a worthwhile advantage to have for the vast majority of players. so your break cues are really worthless to you , how's dem potatoes.

Balance point of cue (intentional or ?)

Yes, I am aware of the coring from a birds-eye (pun intended) perspective, but I think I have been a little more conscious of checking for it and comparing the balance point both of butt only, as well as complete cue in the last couple weeks. I have 2 cues that I think I shoot the best with and noticed that the balance point is very similar, even if there is an almost 1oz (overall) weight difference. I would assume an experienced cue maker has a strong opinion on where that balance point should be, but considering we don’t all use a matched butt/shaft, perhaps a randomly paired butt/shaft that works for one player might not work for someone else. Just my thought.
