Hard to Find the Center of the Cue Ball

The precision of the strike to the white is key.
I learned to snap a football 15 yards between my legs while looking straight ahead. So providing a precision strike to the white while looking distant was reasonably learned. Mosconi said 🤷‍♂️ I took that method to the top in my ratings log. Now I employ a method or eye patern similar to.
John Higgins
Mark Williams
Stephen Hendry
Mark Allen
Well that's a pretty good lead off line up.
Of course the GOAT is in reserve on the bench , in case of emergency. Ronnie did say either or to which ball last question. 🤷‍♂️ 😉

Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

I agree. Part of that problem is likely the difficulty in finding a local place that has 9 footers. The rural junior college where I learned to play in the early 1970s had a couple GC1 and a snooker table, but even back then it would have been at least a 100 mile drive to play on a different one. With all the halls closing it is likely worse these days. 7 footers are popular with bar owners because they take up a lot less floor space and they are coin op. Many of the bars I've been in don't have room for even a single 9.

I recently moved but still no local 9 footers. Griff's is now an hour away so I'll be heading there once in a while and visiting a few pro tournaments.
I have recurring dreams about stumbling across a local poolroom with quality pro equipment that is still open. It usually involves my entry into a strange/unrelated building, and then I hear the unmistakable sound of clicking billiard balls in an adjoining room 😁.

Gold Crown 7 Revealed

I take it back, I think the channel for the ball return are plastic, not bent sheetmetal. They seem curved in cross section from the pic, which is not usually done with metal. They might be extruded plastic due to the curve. Extruded plastic is cheaper for tooling than molded plastic, and a good choice for a tunnel. Plastic would be better for a tunnel than metal (in general) because it won't rattle when the ball hits it.

Gold Crown 7 Revealed

From looking at the pic and with a manufacturing background, I can offer:

The frame is made of bent sheetmetal in steel. NOT extruded aluminum. (the Rasson is extruded aluminum). That's a much better choice, imo, because each frame member can be customized for no additional cost. All the holes and fasteners are put in automatically during the punching/laser cutting process, then it's bent. Extruded aluminum needs secondary machining operations to get all the fasteners and cuts in. Or, you end up with sliding fasteners in the T-slots of the extrusion that can move all over the place.

There are lots of off-the-shelf fastening systems for sheetmetal, including fasteners with built-in thread-locking mechanisms. They are called PEM fasteners, and are the industry standard, and are pressed into the sheetmetal. I can't tell from looking at the pic which was used, but I'd imagine one of them was. If so, that means no loose nuts to lose, (the nut is pressed into the sheetmetal and becomes permanent to it). Or, the screw can be pressed into the sheetmetal, (its then called a stud), and the nut is loose. This is good for us so less chance of the mechanic leaving stuff off.

The ball return looks very well integrated into the design. Less things exposed to break, or fail in the field. Also possibly save on shipping size. The tunnels also look to be bent sheetmetal in a "U" shape. Better than the older GC wire tracks, imo, that if they move slightly, the balls fall out and/or get stuck.

The pedestal base looks like they are possibly two pieces that stack on top of each other? If so, that might be to reduce the cube-size (shipping size). Or, it could just be an aesthetic line and is all one piece underneath.

Need ideas/donations for my awesome charity

Therein lies the rub. Many of these charities once researched you discover 60 70 80% of the money collected goes to administration and very little to the charity. That's why the moment somebody starts asking for money red flags go up.

That wounded veterans charity you see on TV all the time with the country singer with the deep voice and the black hat. Do a little research you find out he's been paid more than 3 million.

Overgeneralized nonsense.

Other than demonstrating you are tone deaf as to who is being helped and ignorant of what is actually being done it’s nonstop irrelevant spouting this or that.

Maybe move on to something else. This is just continuing to derail this thread for no good reason at all.

Left handed chalk - for left eye dominant players

Let’s see if garczar follows his own advice. I don’t blame him for being snarky, as I am sure life was hard for a boy/girl during the Great Depression. He/she could still be working out his/her feelings. On a positive note, in the quote above is the best use of grammar and punctuation that I have seen from garczar. One exception, use “an” before a word that starts with a vowel 😉. Example, this is an OPEN forum.
Exception: an honor. Words starting with a silent 'h', AN should be used.

Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

Last time I checked with him he was not on AZB.

Eddie has a following he built with his content and is able to build a mix of custom ordered/spec cues for folks and is doing one off cues that he cuts a video for and sells on his website.

Like I said, he's a mad genius, and to his own detriment, willing to try anything a customer request no matter how impossible the ask.
He certainly enjoys the challenge.

Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

So it occurred to me that another reason for the younger generations shying away from customs is they’ve become accustomed to not waiting for anything they want anymore. Even I have become so used to quick delivery from amazon that if it says more then 3 days I’m looking for another seller. Waiting 6 months or even years (18 years right now if you want a south west 🤣) for cues may seem crazy for a society that expects to get everything quickly.
Honestly, all the players I know under 38 have zero disposable income. Don't get me wrong there not broke ass, they all have great paying white and blue-collar jobs. It's just that they spend every dime they make on and are all living paycheck to paycheck.

They could afford a nice cue, but in the grand scheme of things, they would just rather spend the money in other places that are more important to them while banging balls around with their $800 Predator.

My hope is that when they hit their late 40s, they get the bug and come back around to the customs

Mezz Cues

WTF. Mezz cues are in very low or zero stock everywhere. They sell them faster than they can make them. Just how in the hell are they over-priced?? The market determines that. People say the same shit about Porsches yet they seem to sell as fast as dealers can get them. Don't confuse YOUR budget with what a product regularly sells for.
The fact that people are willing to pay overpriced prices doesn’t not make the product worth it.
