Mosconi cup SOLUTION

The problem, and solution is that the US thinks they're so superior that they can take on multiple countries and compete with them, let alone beat them. I'm American, and I still find it arrogant. It's an us against the entirety of Europe attitude, and they're continually getting their butts handed to them for a reason.
Maybe take a moment to read up on how the Mosconi Cup got started and who runs it. Americans didn't make the decision to "take on" anyone.

A question about the 1976 World Straight Pool Championship.

wasn't this also the case for the world snooker? 2 or 3 players, race to infinity
Not infinity, but sometimes the championships were pretty long. For a while, they were race to 73, or "best of 145" as the players would say it. I think of a modern snooker frame as roughly twice as long as a rack of nine ball, so it would be like a race to 150 or more. The snooker players didn't play as well back then -- very few centuries, if any -- so it may have been more like a race to 300 at nine ball. There's a match you can get your teeth into.

Buddy Hall vs Steve Mizerak, who had the nicer stroke?

Hard to define 'nicer' imo. Both were effective under major heat. Buddy's may be tad more pleasing to watch but both of them worked and that's what matters. While on this topic go look at Yvgeny Stalev play, this cat has the most flowing, effortless yet stupidly powerful stoke. I watched him play at Derby City and i was amazed. I could watch this guy hit balls for hours.
+1. Stalev had the best stroke I've ever seen. You described it perfectly. I heard he used a 25+ oz cue.

Big pockets are boring.

The best part of 9 ball is players missing, especially on the 9.
When you win big pockets are wonderful. When you lose not so. I am a schlubby league player mostly. At home my pockets are the tightest. I have to really focus while I practice. The tables at the bar are league cut, i.e. big. The game is a lot easier against big pockets. Even so, the center of the pockets HAVE NOT MOVED. I win more because, in my opinion, I focus more.
