Arata's "Grand Olive" Billiards ... St. Louis, MO

One unique feature of Grand-Olive I have mentioned and will mention again here is that it had what I would call map cabinets that regulars could put their cues in. You left your cue assembled and laid it in one of the drawers after you played. Never seen that before or since.

Another thing is that the place was dark except for the lights over the cash register and the lights over the tables that were in use. So if you were the only one playing, you'd be playing in a very dark room.

Also there was a spittoon on a rubber mat next to every table.

I think in the 60s you could buy a soft cue case for about $!.00. Nevertheless, I'd say about 20-25% of the pool players carried their sticks without a case. Either gripped together or tied together with a rubber band or two.

Many people had full splice house cues that AESchmidt had converted to two piece. Or Harold Worst branded cues (made by AESchmidt). $13.00 ish.

Finally many people had black ferrules on their cues.

The GOOD OLD Days.

Seybert’s shipping prices

Seyberts just got back to me, don't know what to say. Sort of looks like what I first stated in that some of the hats aren't actually being shipped from them. That doesn't explain though that I put the same hat in my cart three separate times and got three widely varying amounts for shipping. They are aware of it now and I'm sure will be looking into it. All I can say for now is if shipping looks wrong, call and ask.

Hello, thanks for reaching out and letting us know. With the shipping price, it is all quoted directly from USPS and UPS site from the dimensional weight of the package and depends on where it is going, we do not make any money on shipping. Their rates update all the time (UPS everyday) so that could be the reason for fluctuation, I checked this on my end with your info and see it was $7. When something like this arises, customers normally reach out to us to see if there is an error in the backend and if there is we can adjust it to be correct. Thank you for letting us know now, it must have since been fixed as I checked it, we are all human and capable of errors but we need to know about an error for us to fix it. Thanks

Funny story:
Our microwave stopped working Monday night, put some stuff in there for a minute to heat, and it didn't heat. Of course I did that three more times with the same result. So off to our local appliance store the next morning for a replacement. It's a small, local place, I'm the only car in the lot and the only customer, so the woman owner is helping me. My only requirement was that it had to have a black/stainless finish to match the other stuff in the kitchen. Her only model like that was an LG, of course the most expensive one, and it has this funky safety latch where you have to push a button on the side with your finger, while simultaneously pressing the door open bar with your thumb. She says you can just lock out that safety feature so it works like any other one. I asked if that was something that they were all going to have now, and she says this to me: You see how the world is now. Some idiot somewhere probably put a chipmunk in their microwave, and now we're all going to have to deal with this kind of crap. Made me laugh, and I told her to stop talking and ring me up. And I'll go back there if I need anything else.
Rick , your microwave probably just blew a fuse , if you remove the outside cover it will be somewhere close to the buttons you push to set the cooking time .
They're a slow blow fuse as funny as that may seem , they are $ 2.00 or $3.00 a piece and are easy to replace .

PRA (WNT governing body) suspends and investigates Kyle Amoroto for match fixing

if a person dumps or is involved in any type to fixing a match. whether its a sanctioned event or just between others. he deserves to be banned, or at least no one in their right mind should have him represent you in any endevour.

for any company to sponsor you, you should have the highest standards of conduct on or off the sport.

Practice what I Preach

Uh oh a U S Plywood story now .
My father was the sawyer of the Douglas City saw mill. The 2 most important in making lumber, well the saw filer and sawyer could make or break a mill. The company provided 5 houses for employees, in a row adjacent the mill pond.
Douglas City had a 2 room grade school. My class baby boomed 7 in our grade. 🤷‍♂️
The big boss from Portland Helicoptere in once a month. 🤷‍♂️
So anyway when I was a young er uh soon to be father ....I gained employment at Novoply in Anderson. It blew up 3 months after I quit my 5 year employment. Anyways so I moved from laborer bucking 100 lb bags all shift to critical machine operator that could blow up the whole darned place with one mistake.
The shift foreman was "old school " from when the toughest guy was foreman. Kinda like Butch Cassidy.
Anyway we were running behind and I turned to my control panel to see him changing my settings. OH Hell No. I was direct and emphatic at close, uh toe to toe range. I was pointing at the panel and controls and emphatic about you...No No don't touch. As I turned to him , my finger touched. He jacked me in the chest with both hands. My stance was solid....🤔 (a moral perhaps to justify babble 😉).
I jacked him under the chin with an uppercut that brushed his neck and chin. He stepped back. I invited him to return for more uh hands on experience. He declined and ordered me off property. Preceded by Your Fired. My reply was short and to the point. "F*** you, you ain't big enough to fire me."
Well he went and got the gate guard a Pinkerton. I got on the horn with my shop steward. I told him the story, he said I will call our rep. Hang on.
Well the return call arrived at the same time as the ancient security guard. The guard told me that I must leave or the Sheriff would be called.
Well I eventually left and the Union voted to a man to shut down the entire complex of sawmill, Plywood plant and particle board plant, if the wouldn't put me back to work with full back pay. This took 6 weeks to come to the closing of the largest employment in Shasta County around 500 had voted to stand behind me. Well the law required a hearing with a federal mediator. The meeting occurred the night before pickets could be started.
The mediator spoke with both sides after my story was told. His conversation with me ran parallel to the Movie Absence of Malice.
His method was good his gentle stroke my my ego in saying, "you are smarter than him and ...."
Well then I agreed to scrub the back pay, as I had enjoyed the vacation and even agreed to write a letter of apology for, "My Participation " no guilt other than sinking to his level of communication. I apologize.
Anyway that was early or mid of my 5 years employment. The Foreman blew the plant up 3 months after I quit. My shift my department 10 men were killed. Good men and friends all. The strongest man I knew was operating the machines that I would have been at. He didn't get out.

If I could I'd be happy to share a video of a ground blizzard which were a common occurrence in Montana when I was a kid .
This was long before rumble strips on the highway and you hoped and prayed that you could see the reflectors on the side of the road !
You learned quickly to slow way down and pay close attention to what you could feel while holding the steering wheel and the sounds of the tires .

Yellow or rose colored shooting or safety glasses are good send to cut down the chances of snow blindness , remembering to blink you're eyes helps greatly also . Being prepared is the main thing a warm blanket , gloves and warm hat with a candle with 3 or 4 wicks will help keep you warm jerky , candy bars or just snacks and bottled water helps and if you slide off the road stay with your vehicle and keep the snow from covering up the exhaust pipe .
Every year or two someone thinks they can walk home or to the neighbors house , some make it but sadly others don't .
White out snow conditions + rumble strips = driving by Braille. Been there, done that.
