Locally, I usually see that the calcutta pays half as many spots as the tournament prize fund.
Earl."Pool is a beautiful game played by ugly people." I'll let you determine which player actually said it. Either way, it's a dandy.
In some jurisdictions, the calcutta has to pay out 100% or it's illegal. On the other hand, I've never heard of a calcutta being raided. There's also the 1099G issue.10% should come out to the elite calcutta runners that generate big numbers. We have a few in Indy.
Good perspective. I could see that. I suppose it also signals to other players that you are open to action. Or, hey that guy from the county over said he is looking for action because (insert typical woofing). Thanks for the new perspective!Liking to wager/gamble in no way makes you automatically a 'degenerate gambler'. Over the yrs some of the best events i've ever been to had calcuttas. They stimulate 'action' in general and often lead to good gambling matches after/during the event. The added time has never meant squat to me, i'm there to make some $$. A little extra time is no biggie. Last thing, every one i've ever been to had the calcutta payouts clearly listed,no funny business.
I think @VTEC John and @Biloxi Boy will be quite interested in that info.Phil Yates read this thread. He commented on the live stream that some people pronounce the name al-oh-WISH-us but he said that he asked Yapp and he pronounces it uh-LOY-shus.
Does the color have any relation to drying time??
Yep.I believe it has more to do with the cooking time and temperature.
That is anal lol I’m to lazy for that. I have a home made bucket cleaner that’s works great for my once a week use. It’s no where near as good as a diamond or what these gentlemen made but it gets the job done. I don’t have the skill to build something like they did and I can’t justify spending $1000 on a ball cleaner I only need once a week.A friend of ours has a Ballstar and cleans her Centennials after every day's play. The balls look incredible, in fact better than new, yet they are many years old.
When we go over to her house to play, it's a real adjustment. They are really slippery, break and spread apart fantastic, and the draw is unbelievable.
It's quite an adjustment till 3 or 4 games have been played on them, and even after 10 or more games they still play noticeably different than the balls that I use at home cleaned on my homemade Diamond type cleaner using Aramith cleaner.
She's a very good shooter, past state championships, shoots tournaments most weeks. One time when we were at her house, I mentioned that she she might try not cleaning them for a few days before tournaments so they would react more like what she would be playing with, but I think she has become so addicted to how nice they are when cleaned that she is unable to let them get used for more than a day at a time.
