Can you tell me what the shafts sounded like when striking the cue ball? Which ones that you have tried had less of a clinking sound to them? Shopping for a CF shaft right now. Thank you very much.
I owned both a Rhino & a Cynergy shaft about this time last year, though not at the same time, & found the hit to be solid & enjoyable on both (I had put a Caiden Fighter soft on the Rhino). I was pretty impressed with the Rhino, but ended up including it with a cue that I sold. The Cynergy came shortly thereafter. I was less impressed with the Cynergy. Virtually every time I pick up a Cuetec Cynergy cue I shoot fantastic with it, but I never bought a full cue because I just don't like their styles, plus I see too many out in the wild. I don't like having what everyone else has. Anyway, I bought just the shaft, thinking I'll get the same performance on my butts. For some reason, I never did, so I ended up trading it off. I didn't experience the synergy I wanted with the Cynergy shaft.
Fast forward to this year and wanting a great CF shaft for my new Cuelees Phantom Sword, I did some shopping like you currently are. I initially tried a Jacoby Black V4. It was the most solid hitting CF shaft I've ever used & mostly a great player, but it was just too heavy (over 4oz) and moved the balance point too far forward for my taste, plus my Cueless weighed 19.2 or 19.3 with it. I like closer to 18 on my cues. If you're not bothered by the weight, the hit of that shaft was hard to beat. Next I considered a Triple 60 TS1, but heard a lot of mixed reviews on them in various forums. Finally, as I'm prone to do, I took a chance on a lesser known, but highly spoken of, ICE carbon fiber shaft from a guy out of Pennsylvania named Mike Johnson. Wow! I struck personal gold with that one! It mates up perfectly, for me, with my Cuelees. It's at least a full ounce lighter than the Jacoby and my cue now weighs 18.1oz and plays so very well with it. I was initially concerned that it was too light and wouldn't hit/sound/feel good. No worries there. Not quite as solid as the Jacoby, but it's very good. Plus, I honestly feel the feedback is better. I let a couple of better players than me, who have elite cues, hit with it and they were impressed. At $299 delivered, some of the best money I've spent on a carbon fiber shaft.
