The usual nonsense from WPA. They'd have us believe that they've done enough to ensure that doctoring of the cue ball is not tolerated and will be dealt with harshly.
Unfortunately, the officials in any WPA sanctioned event are acting on behalf of the WPA and know WPA rules. I have never seen an official take action to discipline those guilty of an infraction of this type. I have also never even seen an official give a player as much as a warning about possible violation.
They write "we have recently become aware ...." and that is false. There is nothing new about this practice, which has suddenly become more visible than in the past.
To those at WPA, you have not done enough to limit this practice, so get off your duffs and make sure that officials start enforcing rules that are already on the books, rather than trying to pass the buck by suggesting you have done enough to largely eliminate this practice.
