I finally played Ultimate Pool

I have played in 3 sessions of Ultimate Pool and I prefer it over the VNEA leagues. The shot clock is the biggest reason for that. I normally play league in an area where 2 minutes a shot is more the norm. So now I drive almost 2 hrs to play in UPL.
Absolutely. I'm a fast player by nature, but I think it made me play even faster without over thinking. I did miss 2 or 3 shots in the set that I don't feel I would have missed if I took an extra second (which I had plenty of time to do), but I was mostly happy with my play. Especially since he didn't even give me a chance to warm up!

I finally played Ultimate Pool

I played in the one in Denver, got in the money, shoulda been deeper but I wasn't aware you could chit a ball in another pocket you weren't aiming at and keep shooting, had em down by two games/lost on the hill.
Then....
When you got on the video table pit, the rules changed, 8 on the break was a win. When Matlock did that, boy was he surprised.
They changed that now. 8oB doesn't even count in the shootout.

Two minutes a shot? Seriously, I'd quit the game before waiting for that.

WNT, WPA and 2026

One great thing about the expansion of the Predator and WNT tours is the number of events in the U.S.

Four of Predator's eight big multi-events this year are taking place in the U.S. - Las Vegas, St Louis, San Antonio and Jacksonville. Asked about this, the Predator tour director said: "We are a U.S. based company."

The WNT, for its part, has the Florida Open, Arizona Open, Phoenix Open and U.S. Open, plus an expanded number of smaller events put on by partners.
Yeah but they need better advertising of the points events in the US. I went to their site and saw some of them and I was like, what? Why haven't I heard about any of these.

2026 JOY Heyball Grand Masters Finals

He hates Chinese food
Before the Mosconi I heard an interview with one of the European players (think it was Moritz, but may be misremembering) and he'd mentioned about them all living together in the run up to it to practice and bond and he said they all took it in turn to cook for the whole group, but Filler didn't join in and just had his own food separately as he's a fussy eater (don't think he used that phrase, but it was obviously implied).

I presume your comment is a joke, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was actually true.

I don't disagree but one of the problems with pool is that it DOESN'T have a 365 day calendar. The margins and the capital injection is so small that they only have off dates that they can afford to get venues. As it expands that might change. We'll have to see.
It's a fair point, but if the events are all over the world surely it's off season somewhere in the world most weekends.

Friendly Challenge

A related proposition I've mentioned before that is in Willie Jopling's booklet is to pocket six balls in six shots. The proposer calls the order. It is much harder than it looks. Note the exact positions of the balls. You are not allowed to pocket two balls on one shot.

That is a cool one. A few years ago Darren Appleton shot some videos of him doing this for cheap with folks while he was in Wisconsin.

It looks so simple, but having the balls deep in the corner pockets and the sides farther out, in conjunction with calling the next shot proved to be really challenging for folks.
