Pechauer Cues

Well, too late with this response. The JP T cue is on the way. Should be here on Friday I believe. Plus I didn't see anything I liked in their Pro series line of cues. Oh well, to each his own.

Yeah, I am sure that it is a very well made, and quality cue, but I just think the simulated Ebony really cheapens the cue.

I do not think that any $500 cue should have any sort of spray paint, decals, or overlays. It is basically a very well made cue with painted overlays.

If it ever gets refined, then that simulated Ebony will get sanded right off, and the cue will look really ugly, and ruined.

90-degree proposition cut shot

@Bob Jewett, did you learn carom before pool? Your bridge looks like a carom bridge.
I learned pool, carom and snooker all at the same time. The rec center had all three kinds of tables. I learned the closed bridge from Willie Mosconi. The bridge I was using in the video is Willie's bridge except the fingers are not fanned out. I think fanning is irrelevant.

90-degree proposition cut shot

If someone bet me and gave me 100 tries to make Bob's shot once, I wouldn't even attempt. I'd just pay off.

Even with the chalk cheat Bob uses on the last shot. ...
I think with a little instruction and practice, you could make the gaff shot one in 20. Seriously.

Retold: In a league I ran for while, there was a player who was roughly APA-4 level. He had seen my one pocket 93-degree cut shot. He asked me to show him how to play it. I said, "Sure," since I wasn't doing anything else. All I had to say was "More left," and "Aim fuller." Within less than 10 shots, he hit one shot that was a 110-degree cut. Yes, the object ball was chalked.

The guy had the tremendous advantage of being willing to try hitting the ball that far off-center. Many players at that level have learned -- or their arm has learned -- that they must never hit the ball more than a little from center, and they will come towards the center on every spin shot.

90-degree proposition cut shot

FYI here,
The shot that Bob is shooting is not quite the shot I diagrammed in my original post in the other thread. Very close though. If you look close in my original thread the OB is slightly - ever so slightly - past the middle of the side pocket.

I think 90 degrees would have made your shot in the side of the pocket. Your shot was also shorter, which makes it quite a bit easier. I had several 90-degree cuts (with clean balls) that didn't reach in my setup that would have reached in yours.

I chose my setup because it is easy to duplicate exactly.

Need some advice on what to do at my local hall

At my local hall there are eight 7' tables. The TAP league operator runs a "mini-cash" tournament on Mondays. I like the format.

It's a race to two: 10-ball, 8-ball, then if tied at 1-1, 9-ball. Most players go to two. Recognized strong players go to three. (If it's hill-hill after three racks, winner of the third rack chooses which game to play in the tiebreaker.) For instance, we have a few FR600+ players in our area that occasionally enter.

When I first entered, as a TAP 5, I had to go to two. I finished in the money (top three) like three out of six weeks, including winning once. Thereafter I had to go the three. I have had a drought in the last five or six times I entered, so they encouraged me to go back to racing to two. One week I volunteered to stay at going to three, and went two-and-out. Last week I agreed to revert, and I think I made it to one round short of the $. So I'm really on the cusp of needing to go to two or three, and I find it fair.

Regardless, it's a fun tournament. We usually have 12-20 entrants. It's double-elim, and officially starts at 8pm. Sometimes with league going long, we don't start until 8:30 (and a couple of times even past that), but as long as we keep the pace of play reasonable, we can be done by midnight or even sooner. Very often, the king of the hill and the second-place finisher agree to split the pot, especially if the challenger needs to win twice, or if it's getting late. It's very laid back, and friendly. The format of playing three different games keeps it interesting.
