haha
He just said that "when the smoke clears... his cues will be the most sought after cues on the planet" he even uttered "balabushka" and in the same breath said his cues will surpass them in collectability

WOW !! his cues are ok.. but they will NEVER be more collectible than a balabushka, szamboti or any of our patron saints

he will have to count on his INCREDIBLE tournament career for his "legendary" status

IMO

I was wondering who would post first regarding that comment, after all it is Mike Sigel, what do you expect? LOL

You gotta admire him for his moxy.

"I was voted the Greatest Living
Player of the 20th century by the
Billiard industry . What you may
not know is that I am also an
artist and creator of the finest
pool cue's ever made. I have
traveled the world and played with
almost every custom cue made. I
feel my cues are unsurpassed in
Design and Beauty. I personally
build and sign every cue so it's
not just a great cue, it's a one
of a kind collectors item that
will increase in value year after
year. Please choose from my latest
2007 series or contact me to
custom make one for you."

Would anyone like to buy my Mike Sigel hand made cue? He made it for me ten years ago. I paid him $1,600 for it. I WISH I could sell it now for $1,000. According to him, someday it will be worth over $10,000! I may not live that long.

I use a Joss, which is the same brand of cue he won all those world titles with. And, seeing as he learned to make cues from Dan Janes, I guess I'm playing with a "pre-Sigel" Mike Sigel custom cue.

Oh, and Dan Janes IS a modest cuemaker (with 40 years experience).

10,000 yen?

10,000 USD isn't gonna be SHlT by then, eh!?!

now that's funny!

pretty nice lateral thinking!

No that is wishful thinking......

Sounds appropriate for Mike. He is the consumate salesman, and saw a great opportunity to get some free advertisement and press. I have sold several of his custom cues over the years, and they are nice cues, but a real tough sell.

Sigel

He is still the best player I ever saw. Hearing about comments like this one reminds me of a lesson I was given in management training: do not manage for morale...the eventual result will be Narcissistic aggression from your subordinates.

Could it be that Sigel was made this way by years of suck-up fans and yes-men like me? What happens to a young person after being voted "player of the century?" Were his expectations as a cuemaker shaped by smilar promises of success from his "backers"? Maybe the Balabushka remark was pointed at someone in particular who helped lead him down that carreer path. Clearly he has worked hard to produce and market his product...but the cue public has not received him with the same accolades as the pool public. I know I would be bitter.

As for value, none of us knows what the future holds. I don't own a Sigel cue because of the obvious CNC design work. It does not appeal to me personally. But if Mike made a box cue with spliced rectangles and veneers...I would probably be the first guy in line to overpay for it.

Just a thought from a cue collecting Sigel fan.

You left out American Cuemaker's Association Hall of Fame member. Deservedly so.

What's in the bag? Sigel's $10K cue!

when his cues reach the 10k level, i wonder how much he'll charge for an autograph?
Didn't you know? Sigel's cues are already hitting $10K!

One of my favorite parts of the IPT match was the little "What's in the bag?" segment. Sigel showed off his playing cue and said it would cost $10K. So now you know who would pay $10K for a Sigel cue......he would! :D

disclaimer: Sigel the player is one of the all time greats. But Sigel the cuemaker...not so much.

Maybe the problem with the value of Sigel cues is the fact that there are signed Mike Sigel imports that aren't worth anything, being sold on Ebay at the same time you see a $2500.00 Mike Sigel custom cue. I've seen people pay as much as $600.00 for those George Balabushka imports, and some of the Mike Sigel customs have a starting bid of $500.00 with a reserve. It could be confusing to know what you are really getting, especially with the scams on Ebay.
