I sent an email to the AZ Bulletin folks and now I am posting this thread.

Congratulations Glenn Atwell on doing something no one else has done in history. Atwell not only won the US Bar Table Championship in Reno this past week but he was in ALL THREE FINALS. No one to this date that I know of has ever done that. I think it is noteworthy to mention and certainly for a headline on the board. Not to diminish Daz's accomplishment but what Glenn did has never been done before.

I have known Glenn Atwell going back to the early 80's in Anchorage AK at the Bankshot, along with Don Wirtaman and Budda and Johnny Dearmore. Glenn is a very humble nice person and a credit to this sport/game.

Anyways, I thought it was noteworthy and should be noted as such.

Congrats Glenn!

Glenn won the 9 ball....Finished 2nd in both 10 ball and 8 ball....Also got the $2000.oo bonus for highest finishes in all three...

He played great....Shot making, safties, kicks, he did it all. Really impressive.........Came close to winning all three......

Glenn comes from my area of Michigan. Even spent a lot of time in my "home" pool rooms Kelly Cue (Cushion and Cue, Snookers) and Playland Recreation, but our paths never crossed due to my taking a sabbatical to work  while he was here. Everyone says that he was a great guy. The thing that really impressed me as I watched him play in the Nine Ball and Eight Ball over the weekend was his phenomenal pattern play in Eight Ball. His overall speed and position was unbelievable but he strategically patterned his runs like a straight pool player. Best Bar Box Eight Ball I've seen in many years. Stevie prevailed in Eight Ball due to sheer guts and heart but Glenn carried the day as far as I was concerned. Kudos to both Champions ! I learned just by watching...Tom

the only down side to this amazing feat is that he got about 13k for doing something nobody should be able to do. if woods happened to get lucky and pull off something like this he'd get about 40 million. i only wish guys with this much talent got paid for it.

I watched most of Glenn's matches and he by far was the best overall player there. His break gave out on him in the finals of the 10 ball and 8 ball finals or he would have won all three.

Plus, if anyone saw "the bank" and out he made against Stevie Moore got to see one of the best outs in pool history! HANDS DOWN, BY FAR, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

Good job Glenn, cant wait to see you in Lincoln City.

Craig

Glen has show what hard work and discipline can mean for a talented individual. I used to wonder, "why does he take so much time in shot preparation"? Then I started noticing that he rarely missed.
Nice to see someone so dedicated achieve so much. Needs more money, I agree.

If there were alot more money involved in doing what he did then it is more likely then not that he would not have been able to do it.

The US Bar Box Championships had a pretty strong field but you take the money and add a couple zeros to the end of each payout and you would be getting ALOT more of the top players from all over the world involved and suddenly it becomes alot harder to dominate. Instead of a 70 person field you get a 270 person field, and instead of getting 5 top pro level players you get 50.

I agree that the money should be better, but the dismal failure of the IPA did show us one thing, push the money up to high levels and watch the players start to come out of the woodwork practicing more, and playing better then they ever have before.
