Are high dollar sets killing the small action in the pool room??

Well i dont think it's so much the High Dollar sets are killing the action its the fact that alot of the time you see someone who will play 10 or 20$ sets all day long, but then someone try's to high roll them and wants to play for 50 or 100$ sets.

And basically what the person is doing, is trying to get the other guy out of thier comfort zone so they dont play as well and think more about the money than thier pool shooting.

Expecially with the ecomomy like it is, and money being tight for most people they will think more about the money than anything else.

No offense, but that's what you're SUPPOSED to do. If he's a $5 dollar player, make him bet $25. Scale up from there.

Yeah if money can give you an edge in the game, then betting it up is just as good as a healthy spot. If you are betting high for that reason I'm ll for it. I just can't stand to see bad players shooting for 1k knowing they should be playin 3 bucks a game.

I know you'll hate me for this, but that is the way most big action goes down. Two players that are very familiar with eachother getting pissed, drunk, and get it on.

It's all love Craw...that's the truth on how most action goes down. Then there's the action that happens because you want to leave a person stuck with no backer pawning their cues to get square...sorry for the rant I'm in war mode today. That guy is gonna hate it later.

Exactly! One move I used to do in my younger days when I could shoot, was to go somewhere and hang out for a few days and play the little 5-10 sets, and give and take for awhile. Then when someone would high roll me for a 50-100 game thinking I would have pressure, I would trade back and forth for a few then say something like screw this shit, its late, I am tired, lets go 500 even and be done. :) :) worked like a charm..

In the pool halls around here, you can find just about anything from 5 to 200 a game, depending on where you are and who is around.

Personally, I disagree with the notion that high dollar sets kill action.....as someone stated already, action breeds action.....if I see some guy on the next table pay off a $500 set, I am much more likely to accept an invitation for $5 a game from the buddy next to me.....glad to see money is flowing in your area....IMHO, they are just making an excuse......

Tryin' to get there for you, dude. I think I put you on good action on this one. If I can make it down, maybe we can do a little barking also.

Many years ago I was in a room and two guys came in and started playing for a lot of money. The entire room stopped playing and started watched these two players play. The room owner let it go on for that particular day. He told the two players not to come back again. The room owner couldn't afford having everyone watching and nobody playing. He was smart enough to realize it.

Big action has good points and bad points. The two players went elsewhere and people followed them there. It's great if the room has a private room or they can support people standing around watching. This sometimes leads to other people matching up and playing.

What I hate to see is people haggling over a game, insulting each other, trying to be funny, and nothing ever comes of it.

Rivercity there's been plenty of high dollar action just north of Atlanta ,Ga,
list of players.Bartrum,Scooter,Tater,Justin,Timmy,Owen.And a few locals that got followed home from the DCC.

I want to know where all this high dollar action is supposed to be taking place????? :D
Chuck

Just so you know, the action we were talking about between us (Frost) and me is going down right now. Scott Lewis and Keith Bennett. I won't disclose the matchup or who's gettin' or givin'. I'll ask first. I believe it's ten ahead for $1500 and quite a few bucks on the side ($5-700?).

keep it up,high action encourages action.

best wishes dean

That is what I think. You hear all of the old hustlers complain there isn't any action any more to make it worth their time. They will talk about playing 5 digit stakes back in the 50's and 60's when most people didn't make that much in a year.

Well, I'll be honest, I generally dont play for more than 25$ a set, so if someone wants to double it, i just tell them to move on and try and play someone else for 50$ a set,,,

I see no point in playing beyond my comfort zone, Cuz It's my money and thats that.....

now on the flip side, how are you going to feel when your trying to bump up the bet to 25$ or 50$ a set and the guy comes back and says why dont we play for 200 or 500$ a set???????

I'd imagine you'd probably take a large crap in your pants wondering what you got yourself into........

How bout this

What do you think about the guys that play you some by the game and if they get winner you automatically know they are quitting if you get even? Tough to fade, right??? I have to fade crap like that and only for 10 dollar one pocket. I have to give somebody the nuts that can't play in order to stay in some type of stroke, and then deal with them taking shots at my bankroll, trying to turn mole hills into mountains and such? I mean wtf is the deal with this? I donno, just sick of it. I mean, what is so hard about getting on your belly and gambling these days? Nobody grinds like they used to. I am looking to play 24 hr sessions in a tightly matched up even game. How many questions did I ask in this post?

I'll confirm what Crawfish alluded to. Keith Bennett and Scott Lewis matched up tonite at King Street. I won't give out the details on the spot given but I will say if you want to play Keith right now be ready to play. The game was $3 grand in the middle with around $2 grand on the side. The whole house was betting on it(even had the arguments over payoffs at the end, too funny). Anyways Keith took it off. He's good to gamble with but fading his attitude can be tough. I hope people keep coming to Fayetteville and supporting King Street Billiards and keep the action going. The window is open there that's for sure. Anyways keep the thread alive.

I'm a little behind... Who backed whom? Sounds like Scottyloo stepped in something sticky.

Also, I don't understand the hesitation in posting the spots... Those of us that might want to put someone in the box are going to find out the line anyways.

Drater,

Only reason I hesitate about what the spot on the game was is because I don't wanna knock anyone's action. Keith has always and will always be good action. I don't love his attitude but you have to respect his gamble. I will say I think he out ran what he gave up. He did gamble definitely.
