If you could apprentice under any Cuemaker?

It would have to be Barry Szamboti. The obvious reasons are the amount of knowledge that has been passed from Gus to him and then to me. Another good reason is that when I start selling them on my own it would look good to say that a Szamboti taught you.

Heads or Tails.....?

If you could apprentice under any cuemaker who would it be and why?

Wow... That's a tough question!
I've already learned some from various cuemakers, and would love to learn from alot more of them....
Bobby Hunter, DPK, Steve Klein, Joey Gold, Josh Pool, Ernie Guiterrez, Ed Prewett, I don't know which of them I would pick....
I guess whichever one didn't tell me where to stick my cue, and that idea, somewhere would be a good start!

Anyone that can build cues that look and play like magic is worth listening to.

Since this is a hypothetical question can I include non living cuemakers? lol
Cuz then I'd probably have to go with Gus!
Or Rambow...
Or......

i had the pleasure of owning a pool hall where ALEX BRICK had his shop for several years.

Although i'm not a cue maker AL and i are friends and i spent quite a bit of time hanging out in the shop......enough so that i would enjoy kicken it in SEARINGS shop for a year or three:)

(i've got an understanding of what he does but the HOW is a mystery:confused:)

Ernie, no question for me. Hey, everybody has their favorites and let's face it, it's a personal thing so no slam on anyone's choice. But no one can tell me that any of them, dead or alive, ever knew anything about wood or making a cue that Ernie doesn't know.

will apprentice for food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crown Cues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barry Szamboti. Not for the heritage or his mastry of cuemaking, but because he is such a fine person. Just being around Barry would make me a better man.

If Barry was too busy working with Jimmy to take me on, I would be learning from Bill Schick. When the lathe wasn't spinning, we'd be fishing.

Just as I expected.... All great answers:thumbup:
Dennis would be my first choice also, but visiting all these guys couldn't hurt. I think that's what makes Dennis great-he never stops learning.
A little visit to Ron Haley, and John Showman(Yes John, I know I've been invited many times and will hopefully make the trip soon:thumbup:)

Dennis Searing....he is relentless in his pursuit in building the absolutely most perfectly executed and solidly built cue. His innovation in construcution and execution is the finest in the world.

Dennis is a genius in cue building.

Cue Maker Choice

I would chose Mike Cochran to apprentice under.

1. He builds the style cues that I like.
2. He's one of the nicest cue makers to deal with that i've contacted about cues and repair work.
