Being Played for the Sucker

dumper

I would act like all is cool then in the course of conversation I would mention some other guy (make up a guy) you know trying to set up a deal like that and ask him what he thinks of a low life scumbag that would do something like that to anyone much less a friend - no matter the definition of the term

I would also tell him I have been tempted even had other guys try to talk me into it wanted me to set him up

but that its stealing and it just aint right

he will most likely get the message

at the very least he will think twice about setting you up

well the way I see it, you got two options. A) Be the bigger man, be polite to him and let it go or B) remove his testicles with a 9 iron:thumbup:

Do not play him again and do not stoop to his level by trying to set him up. Take the high road. You can't go wrong.

Warn ALL good people about him. He is always trying to improve him game, it's just not pool. ;)

Ray

Agreed. Scum like him ruin this wonderful game...let us not help him do this to pool, the game.

glad to hear from an expert

Glad to hear from an expert. I would have used a dull 2x4 as a first choice so I would probably automatically select a wood if using a golf club. I assume you get a nicer slice with the nine iron and are less likely to damage the club?

All jokes aside, unless you are defending your own life (and sometimes, even when you are) actually whacking someone with a cue stick is a great way to risk landing in jail, losing your current job, losing any chance of a decent job in the future, losing your wife and kids, etc.

Aggravated battery, attempted murder, manslaughter, and 2nd degree murder (La.) are all serious felonies that could be found by a prosecutor and a jury. Plus, you'll meet lots of new buddies in jail...

Even if you make it past the criminal prosecution, there are the potential $$$$ civil cases.

Just stay away from this guy.

he tried to get someone to dump you and thats a bad poolroom move. really low class.
however you were trying to back a guy who you knew would beat him. you werent being a buddy either. so you both get what you deserve. he gets ratted out for being a dumper and you are not a true buddy. so for both of you its about the money. and thats okay but dont expect loyalty when its a one way street

Big difference.

He picked the game and the opponent.
He said he wanted to play this goy and said he would play even.
He had the chance to determine if it was a good gamble for his money or not.
not like I set him up with someone and told him the players speed was lower than it atually was.

WAY different imo

See. No offense, but i have a very specific view of this action.

This never works.
Telling everyone about him is NOT going to stop him from getting action.
If he's got the money, and someone wants to play, they are going to totally disregard any warning that was given.

If he's actually willing to get up there, then he's going to get played.

As far as i am concerned, i would set up this character, and once the tables were turned, and he was the one who got dumped, i would laugh in his face.

The only way he can get mad, is if he actually comes forward with the fact that HE was supposed to win, and not the other guy.

Rules do not apply to scumbags, and once they have been identified as a scumbag, the retaliatory dump is an EXCELLENT choice.

The high road is not going to teach them anything and they might go out and try it again. All the high road does is give you an out so you don't have to deal with it.
But the retaliatory dump....that stings something awful, and they look and feel like an idiot, ESPECIALLY when you go and tell EVERYONE how he tried to pull a fast one and had the tables turned.

For those that have this notion that to do that to someone is criminal, look at who you are dealing with.
He's a scumbag and fully deserves it.

Take his money, laugh about it and buy the whole pool room a round of drinks with the money you just won and tell everyone to thank HIM for it.

If anything, he might learn to never EVER mess with you again!
At least that's been my experience.

unfortunately true

Unfortunately everything you say about criminal and civil issues is true. People tend to be much more fragile than I remember them being forty years ago and much quicker to run to the law. Hitting someone is very risky from a legal perspective, hitting them with an improvised weapon is far riskier. Even self-defense carries some risk. I know of someone who got attacked, defended himself too well, and got eight years for it. He didn't kill the other guy but he came close. Seems there is a point where you cross over from defending yourself to being the attacker. Bottom line, getting into physical encounters not only risks bodily harm but legal issues. Best to try to avoid it.

from what I hear, the higher lofted iron is more suited to testy removal, and the woods, lets say a 13 degree strong 3 wood, is more suited to making testy burgers. hehe.

All joiking aside, you are right. On the other hand some people that go running to the law all the time need a stiff reality check. Some people think they can go around screwing people over and over again without people retaliating due to the fear of jail. I believe these people need a reality "tune up". Every once in a while you will meet someone that was born without the common sense gene, and it is necessary to "educate" them on the error of their ways. Im not saying you should go around kickin ass and takin names, but I think we all know someone like I have described, and most of us can agree that this may be the necessary course of action, remember you cant call 911 due to stupidity.

LOL, You take the high road for yourself.

You will never reform the bad guys, you will only create an even bigger problem, because most certainly they will now be figuring a way to make YOU pay again.

Being a kindly old gentleman . . .

Being a kindly old gentleman I don't kick butts anymore. There are folks that would try the patience of a saint though and I have been mightily tempted a time or two in the not too distant past. Also there is the challenge, if you can put enough draw on a shot they will fall forward. It's about the equivalent of a two table length draw shot in pool so it is pretty difficult. :) :)

Weasel clause: I don't advocate two table length draw shots or hitting anyone outside a ring.

The only reason to say anything to this guy or anyone else is to prove how smart you are. Don't say anything, be nice to him , maybe someday you'll get a chance to do something to this creep. Never forget.

Everytime I go to an AMC theather to watch a movie, right before the movie starts, there is a quote...hmmm....what is it again?.....ah ha! "Silence is golden."

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Klink,
You apparently don't consider this guy a friend and realize he is merely an acquaintance of yours from the pool room.

Don't tell him that you know he is a scuzz-bucket.

Remember what Sun Tzu said in The Art of War: "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

JoeyA, But what if you were a real good friend of mine in real life ;) and you knew that John the Weasle played the dump? And subsequently I put my $$$ into a game with him rigging the outcome, with you sitting idly by? You and I would have serious issues if I found out you withheld this info - who wouldn't?

Who believes this guy is a one time dumper that will never do it again? If you aren't part of the solution you are a part of the problem. I'd get consent from the friend that was involved and out the bastard, at least to "my circle".

Quick scenario for you.

I got put (By a supposed "friend") on a terrible game. I mean terrible. I blow $1700. After I found out about it, I put the wheels in motion.

I bet I sent 20-25 players in on this guy. I hadn't said a word about the "setup." I actually kept my "send players in" money in a shoe for almost a year. I walked in to his bar and showed him almost $11,000. I'd waited for this moment.

"I know you got a cut from that 'great' game you put me in a while back. Well, this is MY cut from this year. Remember .... " And I began to reel off the names of the guys who'd robbed him. Oh, and I had two real friends with me when this went down. Praise Jesus.

To Dump/Catch or NOT.

We're on the same page. It just doesn't do any good to confront the dumper personally. It is more effective to let the stupid b*****d think that you don't know he tried to dump you or that you're not sure he tried to dump you.

I probably should have started a separate thread on dumping to post the following but.........

It has been my experience that dumpers get what they deserve and that is a lifetime of negative criticism by their peers, no matter how secret their dumping is kept. If one person (besides you) knows you dumped, it is no longer a secret.
-----------------------
To those who would consider dumping now or in the future, simply ask yourself if dumping is worth the few dollars that you are going to make. It won't be a secret for long and you can bet YOUR LIFE ON IT. Someday, somehow the catcher will reveal your "secret" to one person and that person will someday tell another person and your "secret" will become common knowledge. The other dumpers and catchers will seek you out and the decent people will avoid you like the plague. You will become the talk of the pool world FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

If you are too stupid to know that dumping is NEVER kept a secret for very long and you are so immoral or desperate to do it anyway, you will get your just deserves.

To those that play the double dump game or other similar putrid games, the same goes for you.

Did you get any blowback from that guy?

Jeff Livingston

He vowed to bust me by any means possible. Funny thing was, after he set me up, I waited almost four months to start my payback. And for almost six to eight months, I sent someone in almost every week or two. As Chaz Palmentieri quoted, "Take that, you heartless motherfu#@er."
