Larry Price....amateur????

No Tour

Why? Another incomplete list by a party with its own interests in mind...

Wilkie is an amature and I see at least 1guy there that I wish would play me taking a spot...

With no professional mens tour to speak of isn't every American Male Player an Amateur???? I would think you would need to have a sanctioning body where people qualify to be pros, short of that I can't imagine a fair way of including some and excluding others.

It maybe the only thing the IPT had right. If the IPT had continued the pros would have tour cards and everyone else would be an Amateur.

yeah but......

Just because someone won a bank tourney (or two or ten of them) does not make them a "professional" player. If someone wins a "Long Drive" tournament in golf does that make them a professional on the PGA Tour? No. How many people would like to play Brian Gregg some bank pool? Two, maybe three.... Well there are at least 4 or 5 people in Central Indiana alone (where he lives) that would beat him playing 9 ball. Of the good bank pool players, Larry is one of the better of them playing rotation pool but given the players that they have let in the ameteur tourney at SBE in the past Larry fits the bill.

Yeah but if someone wins a round at the us open of golf, they sure as $h1t aren't going to be considered an amatuer

WRONG....as mentioned earlier, Bobby Jones was an amateur, and in same year (1930) won the US AMATEUR, the US OPEN, the BRITISH AMATEUR, and the BRITISH OPEN (for a total of 13 majors over his career). BTW, it was his last year playing competitive golf (retiring at age 28!!)- can't top pulling off the GRAND SLAM. Look into his story - remarkable!

Again, the list below is for Dragon Promotions NOT the Allen Hopkins Event, concerning Amateur status.

(BTW, does anyone know when the next Dragon Promotions Amateur Event will be held)
Criteria for players

You can play if you:

are not ranked in the top 50 in the UPA or the top 20 in WPBA
have never been ranked in top 16 in WPA rankings
have never won a men or womens major U.S. pro tournament
have never won 1st or 2nd at a pro event in any country outside the USA

have never finished in top 16 in any male pro tournament sanctioned by the current governing body of pro pool at that time(including any of the 3 divisions at Derby City Classic)
never been ranked in or have never won 1st or 2nd in the finals on these following mens tours: FL Tour, Joss Northeast Tour, Pro Senior Tour,
We will use our discretion on certain players depending on their skill level and amount of 1st and 2nd place finishes in the following tours : Kings Bay Promotions Amateur Tour, the Super Billiards Expo Amateur Open, Planet Pool Tour, Viking Tour, Pechauer Tour, Fast Eddies Tour, Stan James Canada Tour, Pechaur New England 9 Ball Series, & Blaze Tour.
never been in the finals of the Mens BCA National Masters or Singles, or the APA National Amateur singles Championships
Have not been Men or Women Players of the Years or finished #1 Ranked for the Year on any major U.S. recognized regional tour

I have no problem who they let play in an amateur event. I would just like to see something along these lines, in writing, before the entry fee is due, so each person can decide if the event is for them. Then anyone deciding to enter the event has no reason to complain, and the winner can feel good about the victory.

BTW With the other players that were allowed to play, Larry should have been allowed to play IMO.

EXACTLY. This list can't and shouldn't be used for any other tour because it's biased. CW picks and chooses who he wants on that list and for any "invite" to his "Invitational Championships".

Rodney Morris?!

Dude is a Champion. Ever hear of a little event called the US Open?

Yes I know he won the U.S, Open in 1996 but it was a few years before that when he entered and won the super billiards expo amateur event, he wasn't a known pro at the time.

I know i told Allen to his face that it was a bunch of boll shit that Larry is in the amateur along with Jason Klatt, Matt clatterbuck what the ****! How about MingNg in the womens amateur is that right? what about the people that are real amateurs that want to win and have no shot because there playing PRO'S Allen u retard

You rite cousin Ryan!!!! I dont give a fuc what anyone says, if you no pool you all damn well no that Mr. Lawance Price should have "NEVER" been allowed to play in that bar box amateur event, staigh up & down!!!!!!
How much did he pay for that one.......Then all thinks why pool has he name it does.
What if a up -n - commimg player has a match w/ Price and price hits him w/ a 4/4/ and closes w/ a 5 and out. Well guess what we just lost the possibility of a possibly great player that just said fuc this I quite. I just played in a event drew his older guy n didn miss a godd damn ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW WHAT!!!!!!

You rite Ryan...Now all of you, the door is open to bash me now, come get some.

No hidding here, Frankie said it!!

After reading this entire thread, I can see why we disagree. No one has mentioned the obvious (to me). These events are about the money, not the sport! Does Allen care if Larry wins? I doubt it. Allen allowed Jason Kirkwood to win twice in a row before he un-invited him. Bobby Pickle and Ronnie Wiseman winning the BCA 8 ball open events? In the end, it's all about the player sanction and entry fees. Who wins is immaterial to the league owners. As long as we continue to support their National and Regional tournaments, they have no incentive to seriously police the entrants. Lets not even discuss players from Europe:eek:.

If they (BCAPL, VNEA, ACS and APA) really wanted to keep the "pro" level players out, they could do it. Simply hire one or two people whose job it is to join all the tours, subscribe to all the "pool" magazines and websites like AZ Billiards. Once they spot the same names popping up across the tournament trails, the name gets added to a master list and distributed to each sanctioning body. That however would be too easy! If in doubt, see paragraph one.

Here are a few interesting names; David Alcaide, Darren Appleton, Glenn Atwell, Tony Chohen, Gabe Owens and Shawn Putnam. Anyone want to argue whether they are professional pool players? They are all on the Master Player list of one sanctioning body (I didn't check more). They are the obvious ones. I bet we can all name at least five more who were at SBE playing amatuer events. Obviously not as well known except to us players.

Cardiac, you are 100% correct. I wish it could get a lil more policed, I know it can. But like you said, entry$$$$$ fee's is the bottom line, I guess..........

Oh yeah, I am playing next year. I don't want to hear anyone crying that they let me in.

No laughing either....:D

Hey Koop,

It's great to see your post. Haven't been to the Turning Stone for the last two events. Must have seen you at SBE. There was quite a crowd watching my match with Dave Daya Saturday night. Perhaps you were there! Didn't do as well as last year but cashed in both events anyway;)!

I'll be at Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham, NY for the NCS event. Perhaps I'll see you there.

Hey Lyn,

You know, there is always someone I kick myself later for not looking up and it's you. I won't be able to make it to Latham but keep in touch and if you are ever in the Boston/Providence area let me know.

Take care buddy,
Koop

larry price is w/out a question not a professional pool player. He does not play pool for a living, as simple as that.

Of course, he is an extremely strong player, but that does not make you a professional.

He's also probably old enough to play in the seniors division, but won the amateur, so let's give him some credit.

what type of work does he do. Would like to see his w-2 for the last 20 years.
