actually my secret dream was to be a fighter pilot,or fbi agent and might would quit pool today if they would take me.

anyway i became a poolplayer and probably the most dangerous thing i have to deal with is having a ball skid on me hill,hill.lol
the same cannot be said for those guys because when the shit hits the fan they go running bravely towards the enemy.

this is a tiny gesture compared to what the military does for me but i would be thrilled too donate 2 ob shafts for that exebition to be auctioned off or whatever mark johnny and nick sees fit.

good luck to the legends and champions tour its one of the best things ive seen come along ,good job tweels.

I am amazed at the people who are donating to this event as such short notice. Our own Jay Helfert is also shipping some of hin new pools "Pool Wars" in case you hadn't already heard of it. So we will be handing out those too. Thanks everyone for you support.
 
Man Joey.....Im all for this...I think this is awesome....I admire anyone who does great things for the Vets! Hooah

Im sure there is nothing toworry about there.....I think Nick and Johnny personally taking the time to shake each and every Vets hand that is there would have more meaning than Nick or Johnny would ever know. I personally didnt ever need to be thanked for doing my job, but it does make you feel good when your shown somehow that what you are doing for your country is appreciated!

If there is anything you guys need me to do, I would be more than happy to help out!

And for everyone that is making this happen, and to the people that are donating items for this event....I salute you!

Its crap like this that gets me all teary eyed...I need a tissue now....thanks!

Okay so I am late in this thread.....damn work :eek: and also putting on a
charity poker tournament.

A few thoughts

1- I like the national anthem idea... should be able to find a good local to sing and I would do it acapella. or with an acoustic guitar. keep it simple
Try Missouri State University... they are 30 minutes away and for sure have a music club or department. probably an acapella group. ( i checked and they have a good music department and an acapella group that just won a regional competition.)

2- probably too late but maybe not. Try a few local print shops to make
the Legend and Champion Tour T-shirts for each Veteran. I would think that most would want to donate towards local veterans.

3- Come up with some sort of plaque for Johnny and Nick to present the pool room in Honor of the soldiers. Have one of the Soldiers place it on the wall in the room.

4- Flags everywhere.. American and MO National Guard flags or emblems...
their motto is Always Ready, Always There

5- Contact the local utility companies and the chamber of commerce in all nearby cities... try to get swag bags put together. COC should be able to provide some good info on getting this done using a local group.

6- make sure all Veterans in the area know about the event and invite them.

7- Contact Fort Leonard Wood and ask them for suggestions..

8- Ask a local radio station to put together a live remote... interview a couple of the Vets in attendence.

9- Ask local businesses for donations for a raffle... donate the $$$ raised to a disabled Veterans group

10- contact the Springfield Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW. They will aid or run the raffle.

11- Branson is not far away at all.... see if they would donate some tickets, admissions etc.

12- depending on size and space.. maybe a pool tournament for just the vets... doubles or race to one to limit the matches.

13- for sure have Johnny and nick paired with a soldier or two for scotch doubles.

Timing is going to be an issue but good things can happen in short time frames. Just have to find the right people.

I am so happy the way that the industry is stepping up to the plate for this event. It is very special to us and we are getting so much help. I just got off the phone with Cuestix International who are also sending a U.S Army Specialty cue and also a very nice Scorpion Cue (Since they are the owners of the Scorpion Line of Cues) Thank you Pool Dawg/Cuestix International for your help and support,

You are EXACTLY correct. No doubt about it.

I have had many people in my life that have asked me how they can make a veteran feel appreciated beyond a sincere "thank you for serving".

I support what Mark, Nick and Johnny are doing to the hilt and feel a great deal of gratitude toward the people and suppliers who have stepped up to the plate to provide some swag.

(Great ideas frankncali!). Time is short. We're talking four days from now.

If I am ever anywhwere close to the area, I will be visiting that pool room.

Mark, would you please compile a list of all of the suppliers who provided donations and forward it to me via email.

It keeps getting better, our friends at Tiger Products are sending some goodie bags also. I am not quite sure what is in them at this point and to be honest I don't really care as long as it is useful. I will update you when and if I fine d out. I think what you are doing for the men and women who have returned home is great and you have received many worthwhile suggestions.

My suggestion is that you not forget those who were not so fortunate to come home and that you honor those who died for our country with a few appropriate words, a moment of silence and the playing of taps.

Contact the local installation MWR

Just to make sure that you get max participation, if you have not done so already, you'll want to contact the local installation MWR (Morale, Welfare, Recreation) Center and let them know what you are doing for the troops. Even though it is last minute, they should still be able to distribute the information down through the units which are stationed at that post. As a currently serving member of the Armed Forces, I can't say enough for what you, Johnny and Nick are doing Mark. From myself, speaking for my comrades in arms, thank you very, VERY much! I'm kind of jealous that ya'll aren't coming round my neck of the woods. LOL.

For many of the returning soldiers, just the opportunity to rub elbows with one Hall of Famer, and a sure-fire future HOF'er would be great. of course, a bunch of pretty girls running around wouldn't hurt either. :grin: Picture opportunities, scotch doubles matches, and just having Johnny and Nick tell stories from the road will make their day. Thanks again...

SDE, I totally agree with you and I will do everything in my power to make sure that those things happen. However I am not the boss of the event and they seem to have things worked out on that side of things. They are active military and I am 99.99% sure that this is already in the plans.
This is VERY important to all three of us (Johnny, Nick and myself). There is not a whole lot we can do that will even come close to what they have done for us. We all have wives and children and we can all sleep safe in our beds each night knowing that they are out there looking out for us. So we want to make this as special as we can. Again there is a big difference between being able to run 7 racks in a row or making 14balls in one shot and being in a war zone hoping that you don't take 14 shots at one time.

I am going to still make a few more calls and see who can help us make this special. I will let you know. I imagine there will be a photograher there (I am almost positive there will) but I wll be taking some picks of my own and I will post then so you guys can see how everything went. I will also be speaking to Billiards Digest and try and make sure that the people involved get the due credit.

You are a Military man? I had no idea. But then again I never thought to ask and you are maybe too humble to say.
Thank you for your kind words and I know that Johnny, Nick and I all appreciate being told we are doing a good job. Thats why we want to tell our men and women in uniform that they are doing a good job and that we are thankful for them.

Thanks again for the really kind words but with this deal, we are really not the ones to thank,
