OK OK so I probably have a stupid question and I am "more than likely going to get laughed off of AZ" but here it goes, does anyone know if Barry szamboti is still making cues and if he is how long is the wait for one? i would like to order one directly from him and i have his contact info from the blue book 3rd, is that still his correct info? Any input from my fellow AZ'rs would be greatly appreciated. thanks :thumbup2:

He's still making cues, but I don't know if he is still taking orders. Last I heard (I think) his waiting list, if you could get on it, was about 10 years.

Thanks, I thought about getting a Gus but I want one made by Barry just for me to pass down to my son and so on, as for a ten year wait that seems to be the going time for a lot of cue makers "LOL" I just got done talking to laurie franklin this week and was asking her about my southwest that I orderd back in march of 2000 so I guess since these cues will just be sitting in my safe anyway its not that big of a deal that i will have to wait a little longer to get them Thanks for the input. :wink:
 
I've played with several of Barry's cues. He really has done a great job continuing his father's legacy. Beautiful cues that play good too. He is in the cue-making elite as far as I'm concerned.
 
Barry is indeed still making cues, good ones, from what I've seen and heard. I've heard that he is not taking orders at this time and that he has a list going out ten years. Probably someone else can verify whether this is true or not, but that's the last I heard.

I attempted to get on his list (in December of 2008). Evidently, he is no longer taking orders from the general public. I was willing to wait as long as necessary 10 or 20 years.

I wanted to have him make a Barryized version of my uncles Gus for sentimental reasons.

Unless you are a personel friend, you will need to buy an existing Szam. I wanted a custom spec Szam as well. He is one hexx of a cue builder.
 
On a more positive note, Barry's cues come up on the secondary market. They are pricey, but worth every penny (imo) and your investment is safer there than in the average fdic institution.

Used cues: No wait...you get to see the finished product before chosing...you may even be able to hit some balls before buying.
 
Barry is always a fixture at the SBE, since it is in his backyard. I was fortunate enough to be invited to dinner at Sullivan's, last Friday, with several cuemakers (Barry among them), many other AzBr's. Although I didn't sit at his table, I was able to hear some great stories from Victor Stein, author of The Billiard Encyclopedia, Cuaba, among others. Thanks to Retail01 for the invite! :grin:

barry told me he can never take an order and still prob wont make every cue he has to make. so basically he has to like you for you to get a cue... buy a gus or barry on the secondary market. sry
