So I was at the pool room last night watching a few friends play some 9 ball. Of course, the most time taken at the table by either player was when racking the balls. A good friend of mine and I were discussing 'the rack' and its secrets and he told me a story that I had not heard before.

He was in Baton Rouge a few years back and some players got the idea to have a $%*@ Contest. Each player racked the balls and the other players broke to see who had the best $%*@ rack - the theory of course being the best $%*@ racker would have the least amount of balls made from his rack.

The contestants were Tony Ellin, Shannon Daulton, Reed Pierce and the fourth player was Jamie Farrell (although the fourth player might be incorrect as my friend couldn't remember for sure).

The contestants were allowed to look at the other person 'rack' and then object if need be.

Guess which $%*@ racker won - hands down, no contest ?!?!

This would be a great event at next years DCC - have 8 players sign up, $500 a man, they each rack the balls for the other 7 players. Each ball pocketed is +1 pt, each ball that still remains in the rack area is -1pt. The $%*@ racker with the lowest combined total wins.
 
Just a guess-ti-mate...

I'd put my vote in for Tony Elliin winning that rackin' contest and I'd take side action and bet on Johnny Archer winning that event if it ever actually took place next year at the DCC.... just MHO, what's yours folks?
 
I will take Corey and Donnie Mills.

Yeah, unfortunately, I do know Tony's dead...watches asked who we thought won that !@#$rack contest and that was my choice out of the guys he listed. I think he was probably still above ground when he was in that one.

My Johnny prediction is exactly as stated! If this craziness was brought into existance at next years DCC, I'll take Johnny Archer against the field and bet all I can come up with. He's probably the best rack mech on Earth, but that's just my opinion. :grin-square:

Yes Sam - you are correct in your comprehension of my post. I was relating a story, as I stated, of something that occurred a few years back ....when Tony was alive.

I am not sure how Black-Balled missed that comprehension but again, I am not in shock anymore by the American public.

Anyways - the $%*@ rack contest that took place several years ago was easily, hands down, had a runaway winner of........

So Watches, who would you take if this came to fruition at the DCC?

On a side note, did ya ever see Tony play jacked up one handed pool? Quite a show for sure...

I would take Gabe Owen or Kid Delicious and all the powder he puts on the balls. That powder acts like glue. Or I would take my friend that I mentioned in the original post, who relayed this story to me. Sorry I won't give you his name.

One time at a tournament, another friend of mine, Randy, was about to have a huge upset in beating Javier Franco on the bar table. After Javier broke the balls for the 4th or 5th time and made nothing - he looked right at Randy and said, "Who teach you how to rack?" and then named the original friend that I referenced in my original post. Now that is a reputation.

Corey and Donnie definitely know how to 'rack your own' to make a ball and have a nice spread each time - I have no knowledge if they know how to $%*@ rack. I guess it would make sense that if they know how to make a rack good, then they would also know the reverse and how to make it bad.

The key point in giving a $%*@ rack, most good players know.

LOL The powder king of Calaveras County can definately put some "stick" on a breaker's bust for sure!

I totally agree with ya on Donnie Mills' rackin' knowledge as well. I heard he put on a clinic in a rack your own match at the Open this past year so I'm sure he's got a little bit of @#$%rackin' skills in him too!

I would absolutely, positively, NEVER bet against Corey in anything involving a pool table! Whatever he's doing for the dough, I'm bettin' on his side for sure. His winning percentage is WAY strong!

I agree! Corey has put so much time into studying racks, you might call him Hugh Hefner!
