McDermott Cue Mfg. in Menomonee Falls has been sold to two of the company's managers and a Milwaukee businessman, Greg Knight.

McDermott, a pool cue manufacturer, was started in 1975 by Jim McDermott. McDermott sold the business in 1994 to his son, Jesse, and Larry Johns.

In addition to Knight, the new owners are Nat Rosasco, president and chief executive officer; and Larry Liebl, executive vice president. Both will continue in their current roles, and Knight will serve as director.

Wow, that was a suprise. Hope that the quality of the Mickey Ds doesn't go down. They have always had great quality cues. Hope all is smooth sailing for the company, hate to see it go away.

It looks as though the buyers already manage the company, I think it will stay the same.

Usually in business, when it os taken over by insiders. The quality will go up. They are the ones who took the most pride in the work and have the most to loose now if it fails...

from talking to someone fairly high up, I heard their cue sales have actually been up. I think it'd make sense to at least keep the cues the same, if not improve upon them.

Well, aren't the Star and Lucky series cues made overseas?

I believe that the lower ends are too as well but I may be wrong.

I have 2 Mcdermott and one is that new Stinger. It hits quite well and the quality is that of Mcdermotts and I also registered it.

Well, I hope it remains the same quality controlled standards, for USA sakes.

Larry Liebl, the new executive vice president, was in charge of production processes inluding wood selection and purchasing for the majority of his 26+ years with the company. I think if they stay on track they'll be fine.

I emailed them a few months back, and only the lucky and star series are made in China. I think that lowers their appeal to some people. Agree with me or not, some people frown on a company that has deep American roots farming out work overseas.

It is somewhat amusing that a company who used to be so fervent in their "American Made" marketing now produces a large portion of their cues overseas. Can't blame 'em though. It does seem to be the direction the industry is going and they're doing what they need to do to keep the doors open.

Interesting. I'm glad to hear it was purchased by people who already are already inside the company.

As far as the China thing goes, the Start and Lucky lines are made there but not the McDermott stuff. I think it's a decent way to offer customers a product at a price lower then what it is possible to offer something made here. I'm glad they created a spin off brand for it. This allows new players to pick up a cheap cue that is still backed by a quality company and that has higher quality control then most import cues. If I could only afford an inexpensive import cue, something from the Star or Lucky line would be very high on my list knowing that McD was the one providing support for it.

Also, it's good for McDermott. They can only build a cue down to a certain price point here. By offering a import line they will get good inexpensive cues into the hands of new players who, the company hopes, will later step up to a real US made McDermott cue.

I like American made products and by them when I can, but it is a global economy and good products can be made elsewhere as well. Just ask Predator, they make a good product and the don't do it here.

I hope I do. M65B should be here in a week or two. I'm looking forward to trying the G-Core shaft out but it will most probably be played with my Tiger X Ultra shaft that I've just been waiting for the right cue to fit it. This will be my first McD, my first cue with points, and my first with a leather wrap. I'm quite excited for it to arrive.

i actually only like the old ones anyways.. i really think that tey need to improve the cues to the standards they used to have!

I purchased a G-core for my Navigator with a 13.25 tip for league play on nasty bar boxes man it is a monster I love it. Curious about were it was made?

Giving up on the Olney?
