Cisero Murphy and Brooklyn, NY

Hey Phil...Just curious. Is it a "misstated fact" that you STILL owe me $320 for the lesson and book I gave you TWO YEARS AGO (that you wrote a bad check for)? You KNOW how to reach me.

No Scott it isn't, as you and many others know my Mom was stricken with Cancer and I had to leave to help her. I find it interesting that you would try and degrade a point about my Uncle with your issue instead of sending a note or even answering the ones I sent you however !

But after your cursing me out and threatening me when I tried to tell you why I was gone and the rest of your payment was delayed, probably explains your posting this.

Peace to you

Misspellings

It is amazing to me how many name misspellings and misstated "facts" are floating around about him !

The misspellings are simple to explain. The roman name Cicero is spelled with a "c", natural to assume someone nicknamed after him would be spelled the same way. On the tape footage of him playing Lassiter on TV it is spelled with a "c" when the names are up on the screen too.

A friend of mine is named Odeal. I'm pretty sure he was named after someone named Odell but the Texas twang in some parts of Texas makes it sound like Odeal. The correct spelling of his name is Odeal but very few folks would assume that.

Phil...Yes, I knew about your mom's health problems, and as such, let you slide until 5 MONTHS after the lesson (which is when you told me you'd make the check good). You never sent notes, except in the beginning. I haven't heard one word from you since August, 2007 (even though I've sent PM's, emails, and left phone messages). SO...just how long is payment to me supposed to be "delayed"? I don't know what you mean about "the rest of your payment". Your check was for the full amount owed. Since it bounced, twice, it's no longer good. How about sending me another check now? As long as it doesn't bounce, all will be well.

A pool buddy of mine is working on collecting some data on American pool players. Right now, he's collecting Marv Henderson things.

Anyway, he knew I was interested in Cisero, and he sent me this little news item, which I am going to post up on the Wikipedia article when time allows. These are the kinds of references one needs to get on Wikipedia. Word-of-mouth stuff can't be printed on there, only referenced items. That is what makes documenting American pool so difficult because there ain't much around.

Here's the newest Cisero snippet:

This is another Cisero reference.

New York Times March 6,1965 page 19

Lassiter Sets Back Balsis in World Cue Play, 150-137

BURBANK, Calif., March 5
(AP)----Luther Lassiter, the defending champion defeated Joe Balsis,150-137,to drop the Pennsylvanian from first place in the world pocket-billiard championship last night.

Lassiter from Elizabeth City N.C., now is tied for second place with Jack Breit of Houston, both with 15-4 records. Balsis of Minersville fell all the way to fourth.

Leading with a 15-3 record, is Cisero Murphy of Brooklyn, who earlier has defeated Irving Crane,of Rochester,150-137.

(This article was so short I just typed the full content.)

JAM the interesting thing about this is the New York Times was covering this event all along until Cisero started to dominate and then they just didn't print anything else. I had a professional researcher run it and she was amazed.

There you have it. So little about American pool is printed in mainstream media.
