Movie: Pool Hall Master

Im going to order this, but i sure hope its better than the trailers show it to be
Yeah the acting sucks (except for Gabe, from what I saw in the trailer - he was very natural... everyone else is robotic with their dialogue) and the direction and production are amateurish at best, but I look forward to seeing some real pool in a movie, even if it's a low budget one.

Yeah, I think it was a definite mistake to show the fight-action sequence in the first trailer - especially in slow-motion.

However, that draw shot that Cory makes in the middle of the second trailer is RIDICULOUS!

It was cool to see pool sequences where there is no cut-away and the actual character is making 4 or 5 shots in a row.

is this movie available yet?

The company adding the sound track said I should have the 3 samples before the end of the month. The company that will make me the copies is ready and waiting for me to send them the master copy. It will take 2 days for me to get my first orders.

So, they should be shipping out by the first week of April.

I just now heard about this movie. I read the last page and the first page of this thread.

The movie was supposed to be finished and ready to go in August of 2008. Now it's ready in April of 2009. Lol. I'm not cracking on the maker, just pointing out an obvious fact. I hope the movie is a hit and I am going to preorder a copy when I get home. The damn filter at work won't allow that site for some reason.

Sweet Marissa,

Went to your website. You do AWESOME work!

Yes, it was low budget. But I wanted to make a movie with alot of pool playing by real pool players. I wanted them to try the acting and show their great pool playing abilities and not just somebody twirling a cue stick around a pool table and looking pretty.

I could have done worse, I might have shot the movie with real actors that can't shoot a lick. But I tried to do something for pool...by having real pool players, and not just standing around, and not just shoot, cut, shoot, cut and give the audience real games without cutting as much, other than switching camera angles.

But I hope you enjoy the great pool playing by these guys who have spent alot of their lives in pool halls, playing the greatest sport!

Well, one thing I have learned from making my first movie, things happen sometimes and things don't go as planned. 95% of my movie was shot on weekends and sometimes players had tournaments to attend. But my main objective was to provide the pool players out there a real pool movie with alot of pool playing (not a total of 5 minutes) and not just show combination shots, drawing a ball, banking a ball, twirling a stick, etc. I started with just making a 1 1/2 hour movie but when I started the editing, I saw so much more. My actors/players gave me so much that I had to rethink my editing and instead of letting some of these good games sit in my computer, I had to find means of putting them in the movie and sharing them with the poolworld. The two DVDs combined give you 8 hours of entertainment.

I knew from the start, when writing the script, that I would be criticized by every other pool player out there, but it's o.k. I believe that I have learned from this movie and will only get better.

Kind of like when you first picked up a stick vs. the way you play now. The main thing is I don't quit, like you wouldn't quit because someone beat you in a game, repeatedly, you rack'em and try again. "If it don't kill you, it only makes you stronger!" I love the game of pool and will continue to do what I can with my money to make it more popular and try to make it entertaining as well.

In the real movie, the fight scene is not in slow motion.
The shot that Corey was out of this world. He also makes some other great shots in the movie.
If you liked the pool sequences than you are going to like the actual games in the movie. They show great strategies as well as great shooting.

And that's why I pre-ordered it. I want to see pool, not Mars Callahan make quips and practise his stupid trick shots (which was a complete rip-off of Rounders, btw - just replace poker with pool) or Freddie Prinze act like an eight-ball "hustla". Every filmmaker starts somewhere, and I am looking forward to seeing this when it's released!

Any word on the movie Joe?

Yes, just getting ready to put something in AZBilliards. The movie will be sent out on May 2 to all those who have pre-ordered. It will also be on sale at the Fast Eddie's tournament on May 2-3 in San Antonio. I will have about 50 copies available there. Those who have pre-ordered it and want a free movie pass for the premiere showing need to e-mail me again and request your free movie pass and we will include it in your DVD package. Also, those who purchase the movie at the Fast Eddie's tournament will also get a free movie pass.

The premiere showing is being scheduled right now for May16-17. When I get a definite date, I will post it.

The movie came out to be 2 hours and 20 minutes. The reason is there was so much provided to me by these players that I had to put it in there.

After the movie you will see a tournament that took place. It is Corey vs. Sylver Ochoa and Gabe Owen vs. Rick moreno. In the same tournament you will see Sylver and Corey VS. Gabe and Rick ----all one-pocket.

The second DVD is 4 hours of the Gabe Owen vs. Sylver Ochoa One-Pocket shootouot, where they commentate on their strategies against each other.

Tx Southpaw - hope to see you there.

Thanks for the info Joe. I dont know if ill be at the FE tourney on the 2nd and 3rd but im looking forward to seeing the movie. I cant wait.

BTW wheres the premiere gonna be at?

But the real funny part is that you all matched us at a Dairy Queen. Only in America can you get a serious pool game at an ice cream stand. :-)

Unless the "Dairy Queen" you are talking about is a strip club featuring only dancers from Wisconsin.

Ha ha John! Did anybody get this joke?

Awesome, Joe. Congrat's on finishing the project! Can't wait to see it.

BTW, many will be in Vegas May 16-17.

How's my favorite Lefty? You did an awesome job in the movie. Thanks for the info on the May 16-17 dates. I might as well move it to the 23 or 24th dates. I will let everyone know in case they want to come down and watch it on the big screen.

I hope you make it if I change it to the May 23/24 dates.

The premiere will be at the Alamo Draft House. A place where you can eat pizza, etc. and drink beer if you want. With 2 hours and 20 or so minutes, you might just get hungry enough.

I will probably move the dates to May 23/24. I will post it on AZBilliards.

Hope to see you then.
