Movie: Pool Hall Master

I'm sending out all the orders this weekend. So there should be some positive and negative threads next week on:

the movie - Pool Hall Master
the pool tournament - Corey, Gabe, Sylver, Rick
the shootout - Gabe against Sylver
the t-shirt with the DVD cover on it
the $35 they spent for all the above (approximately 8 hours on the DVDs)
*Most of the pre-orders will get a free mini-poster for being patient with me while I wrestled with problems that kept popping up everywhere, causing delay after delay. Thank all of you!!!!!!
***

(ALL THE ABOVE WAS FOR PRE-ORDERS FOR THE FIRST 1,000. THE PRICES HAVE CHANGED AND ITEMS WILL BE SOLD SEPARATELY. PEOPLE JUST HAVE TO LOOK AT THE NEW RATES. NO MORE FREE T-SHIRTS!)

STAY TUNED!

so you helped make the movie and you're organizing the orders?

I'm the writer/producer/director of Pool Hall Master and am finishing the script for Pool Hall Master II with added pro-pool players and other pool players to be extras, etc.... I will shoot this in San Antonio, Austin and Dallas. I will start filming PHM II later this year and hopefully have it finished by later in 2010.

I applaud your efforts. I dont want to sound as harsh as some. I will just say that 8 hours of pool videos sounds a bit more appealing than watching some good players do a bad acting job.

To give constructive feedback, I think there is line between a straight recording of good players in a match and a movie with pool as a backdrop. I really think (if people are like me) that you would be better off from a movie standpoint if you edited out all the time between shots, filmed some set shots from different angles etc to give it the pacing of a movie. I just kept thinking "alot of dead time" between stuff.
I have the patience of a saint when watching pros pick their shots (i go to the US Open and dont mind that there is no shot clock), but when i watch a movie, I expect things to happen faster.

For example, setting up for "new guy plays bad asses in town, wins, gets beat up", that shouldn't include "new guy opens case, puts stick together, goes for a leak, eats lunch, spends time looking for quarter that rolled under table when flipping for break" (you get my drift).

In essence, I like the pool, I just dont like the "movie" parts because I expect a better pace for movies.

Sorry if I sound harsh, not my intent. Just trying to give you the honest feedback as opposed to "i like it because its about pool". I hope the sequel will be a bit better in this regard. I am sure it will be since you now have some epxerience under your belt.

I know where you are coming from. That's what my intentions were in the making of this one. To eliminate "dead time", where the player disappears and nothing is happening. I selected the games and also the angles that would allow the audience to see what all is happening. I might have a couple of scenes there where maybe 10 seconds go by before the next shot, but in one-pocket, there are times when you have to analyze your next move so it is good offense with defense in mind in case you miss. Some scenes with dialogue are to introduce the character(s) to the audience and to see how they will effect the main character(s). It's really a challenge, as I found out. A lot of note taking of do's and dont's. I will take your constructive feedback and add it to my do's for sure. You sound like a cool person, and I appreciate your feedback. I might need you on my re-write in late July. Contact me later.

Thanks.

Joe, next time, let me shoot em. I pick em and miss em pretty quickly.

ironman,

Forgot to tell you that there is a small One-pocket pool tournament at the end of the movie. The four players were: Corey Deuel, Gabe Owen, Sylver Ochoa and Rick Moreno. The tournament was race to two in the singles competition and team competition - two against two, race to two. It was interesting and spectators loved it.

So here's what you get with the movie: a tournament at the end of the movie, a One Pocket and Banks Training DVD by Gabe Owen and Sylver Ochoa, and for a limited time and for the first 500 orders, a T-Shirt that has the DVD cover on it that says - Pool Hall Master.

More information will be available on www.poolhallmaster.com which is still under construction and on myspace.com/poolhallmasterthemovie

Ironman, I still need your help on the once a year, "Pool Hall Master One Pocket Tournament" to be held here in San Antonio. Let's get together sometime in June.

Take Care

Joe, it's June,,,,Let's talk.

To the makers of the film don't let the haters get you down. They probably haven't done anything creative since the finger puppet show they did in the third grade. Haven't viewed the trailer yet. My guess is if you have a love of film making your next effort will be even better.

Best of luck,
Marcus

Let me warn you ahead of time. There will be a Pool Hall Master II in 2010, and I won't let the few out there keep me from doing something for this sport. You can continue your bashing, that's what you're good at. You did a good job so far, I commend you.

Thanks man, but I have said my peace (which I stand by). If you can create a movie that hsa actual good acting, a great plot, and makes this sport look good I will not be bashing but instead be ordering a copy (and I wont need a free T-Shirt or a second DVD with a pool match on it).

I commend well done work, and I am not afraid to take the other path as well. If you look at the movies I linked they are very low budget, don't have the bells and wistles, and I think both are outstanding and bring something new to the movie scene and their gener of film.

I do both, I commend good work and I will say if I think something is a poor effort. It depends on what you put out there.

It's kind of hard to say what kind of effort anyone puts into anything while standing on the sidelines and not being on the front lines. But I do respect everyone's opinions. Sometimes they serve as guidelines for improvements. I know the next one will be better. Thanks. I too have said my peace.

Thanks, it's the love of pool first and then the love of film making. I had a martial arts movie that I was gonna shoot first (that I wrote in 1995), but the love for this sport and in hopes of keeping more pool halls open, I decided to shoot Pool Hall Master first (which I wrote 4 years ago). I love the martial arts also, I am a teacher in White Crane Gung Fu here in Texas and have been in it since 1972. Even though I love the martial arts, pool is still my number one. And yes, I learned alot from the making of this movie and will apply this towards my next movie(s).

to all those who have pre-ordered. The orders (some without t-shirts) will be going out the weekend of june 13/14. Hope you enjoy this low-budget independent film. Remember - this was not shot with a hollywood budget but we all believe it came out pretty darn good.

The first DVD is the newly revised (1Hr 45Min) "Pool Hall Master" movie with the Out-Takes (8 Min.) and the small One-Pocket Tournament between Corey Deuel vs. Sylver Ochoa; Gabe Owen vs. Rick Moreno followed by the Team competition of Sylver Ochoa/Corey Deuel Vs. Gabe Owen/Rick Moreno (1Hr 30Min).
This first DVD is accompanied by the Second DVD which is the Gabe Owen VS Sylver Ochoa $3,000 Shootout in San Antonio, This DVD is 4 Hours long, of which most is commentated by Gabe and Sylver on why they chose to take those particular shots. This makes a very good training DVD on One-Pocket.
The set is Going On Sale for a limited time; $20 plus tax, shipping and handling thru the month of December 31, 2009. Orders are starting to pour in. Almost 7 1/2 hours of entertainment!!! EXCELLENT CHRISTMAS GIFT!!!!!
You can go to www.poolhallmaster.com to view the trailers and place your order.

Since the re-editing of the movie "Pool Hall Master" earlier this year and temporarily reducing the price to only $15 for both DVDs, the movie is selling like HOT-CAKES. Thanks Everyone.

The post located 2 or 3 messages above this one says that the movie shipped a full year ago now. And yet, I've heard nothing about it.

The last post, made today, says the movie has sold like "hot cakes". Again, why have I not heard any feedback?

Can someone please clarify?

No idea. I just bought me a hotcake and I will let you know when I get it. It can't be worse than Pool Hall Junkies and Chalk and Shooting Gallery.
