Edwin "Bandido" Reyes Lives On

Anitokid has set a fundraiser tournament on May 2, 2009 for the kids of Edwin. He has already started to accept donations.

I just got in touch with Rafael Cusi and he is going to throw in a painting for Edwin. "Popoy" Cusi is a famous watercolor Filipino artist who is a sucker for the game, and he is a club class A player. Both are very good friends and they truly respected each other as artists... but disrespected each other on the billiard table. They always enjoyed playing against each other.

Here is a samlpe of his works in case any of you want to convert the painting into cash: http://images.google.com.ph/imgres?...olor&hl=tl&rlz=1T4SKPB_enPH315PH315&sa=N&um=1

Those watercolor pictures are absolutely gorgeous. WOW! :)

I want one! :p

What a kind gesture. Somebody give us a link where we can send monies to get a chance at winning one of these artist's masterpieces. I love it!

It's not yet clear what kind of painting Popoy is donating. He is known for his unedrwater, sea scapes, black and whites and nudes. He has done sold-out exhibits in Spain, England and Germany. I will post the actual picture of what he will give when I get hold of it.

You guys are really the true friends of Edwin. Helping his small children to fund their education is a great gesture towards his family. I'm sure Edwin appreciates your help so much. He chose the right friends to hang out with when he was still alive.
Props to all of you and to all the AZ members that supported Edwin from the beginning till the end.

not forgotten

Sputnik,

Thank you for the sad report of Edwin's wake and funeral. It was much appreciated since it was impossible for me to be there. Do know that even though he is not all over the front page of AZB he is far from forgotten.

Edwin will be remembered long after the threads on this forum are gone. I for one will not be able to work on a cue without remembering him and I am sure that there are many others that are the same way. He was quite modest concerning his talents but they, and he, will be long remembered.

Although I did not know this man nor his family nor ever been close to going to the PI..... You never want to hear about these things happening...However I do find one thing disturbing.....

This thread has only 7 pages worth of posts while a player sells drugs and gets what is coming to him, has upwards to 80 pages of posts. WTF I ask?

Ditto the thanks to Sputnik for continuing to post and update.

Initially, the lack of media attention spurned pessimism. But the wake and funeral offers optimism.

The people attending speak volumes for the man, and quite possibly represents the nucleus of caring people that can make positive change.
Change that would please Edwin.

It gave me more hope that good things can come from this tragic loss.

I'd also like to thank Anito Kid for his heartfelt efforts.

Please don't forget to let me know how to send you the money that has been donated so far. Paypal works best for me but I am willing to do it anyway that works for you.

Friends, some good news about the fund raiser and all.

This morning, a good friend from the billiard community pledged
Php10,000 for Edwin's kids.

He promised he would give me the check before
the "Bandido Cup" begins.

He then scheduled a meet up to shoot pool
at the AMF-Puyat Superbowl in Makati City.

Little did I know that he would be borrowing a pen
to write the check for Php10,000, pay to cash, for Edwin's kids.

The check is with me now and will be given
come tour date.

Our friend still wishes to remain anonymous.

Many thanks my friend.

Had a meet up with the President of the Makati Pool Players Association
(MAPPA) this evening - my good friend and one of my mentors
in the business world - Jesse (Gonzales) Cambosa.

He has asked his fellow officers to circulate a letter
about the fund drive. Jesse has also pledged to join
hands and lend support for the tour.

I have also had a good talk with one of my best friends,
on and off the pool scene, Lito "Vice" de Castro.
He wants to contribute a little something for the kids.

Jason Calubaquib, another very good friend of mine,
has pledged to sponsor the championship trophy
for the "Bandido Cup." We will buy it this coming
Saturday, friends.

Our buddies from bilyar.NET and EPT have
also started to give pledges for Edwin's kids.

Again, many thanks to the above mentioned.
Maraming, maraming, maraming, maraming salamat po!

AK

P.S.

To Popoy,

Many thanks for your generosity, Poy.
See you again soon kaibigan.

I think it would be great if there was a raffle for one of his paintings. They are very expensive but the watercolor underwater scenes are spectacular. My son would love to have a painting since he scuba dives but it probably more than he could afford. He could be enticed to buy a chance on one of those type paintings and I'm sure many others would appreciate such art.

Looking forward to seeing Popoy's donation.

Thanks,

Announcement from Edwin's Mother

"We would like to thank each and every one who have reacted in ache to how Edwin had once touched their lives in one way or another; and to those who see Edwin's passing as a personal loss as a friend and as a loss to billiards. Please do not forget to join us in praying for his resting in peace. May God bless you all."

From Edwin's mother.

This is really strange, up until now I'm still waiting for some words from this forum owner/representative, am I the only one here?

Notice

The family will soon make an inventory of Edwin's works to be auctioned off in support for his children.

If you had any cue in Edwin's possession for repair, please describe the cue and submit some proof that the cue stick indeed belongs to you. After a week or so, claims will be assessed and all cues will be auctioned off as is.

While it is true that Edwin had employees, he did not allow them to handle the internals of his cues. Edwin as not only an artist, his inventions and innovations made his cues distinct. It is easy to imitate an ER on the outside, so the inventory of the remaining cues will have tight control.

Please PM me if you have concerns with this matter.

Thank you.

John, you or JoeyinCali would be the best pointman abroad for this. Please
coordinate with him. Blowfish has volunteered in assisting too. The best way is to send it to a pointman and have one remaittance for everything to save on remittance charges.

Many thanks!

Ok, I will talk to Jhun about it. Since he is in HK this might be easier for him.

For anyone else wanting to donate I have opened my PayPal to donations for Edwin's family. So far I have received $500 in donations to go to Edwin's family. Every cent will get there as I am covering all fees to transfer/send the money. My paypal is paypal@jbideas.com if you want to donate.

You are not the only one. It's completely awful that not even condolences were offered. Mike made a point of welcoming Edwin personally when Edwin contributed SO MUCH to the cue gallery section at the very least the man's contribution to this forum's content should be recognized.

I am sure they have good reasons to be silent and will open up soon. Perhaps they are performing due diligence from a journalistic standpoint. Still though, a great cue maker and passionate advocate is dead, at least pay your respects.

In all fairness, Jerry PMed me asking for links to news on Edwin's murder. Unfortunately and surprisingly, news seemed to have been supressed to two reports found in the inner pages. His request was from a journalistic point of view.

But yes, the absence of official statements is a statement in itself. The issue of Edwin's murder is to be buried with him. Well, playing this thing to a hush could have at least spared human magnanimity. But then again, paying respects to the person is a completely optional human act left to the discretion of a person. Many liked Edwin but there are others who did not like his guts and the way he presented his arguments. Sympathy cannot be shoved down the throat. Just like Earl's position before his game against a grieving Bustamante in the WPC 2004 championship, expressing sympathy is cultural. And we cannot be quick to condemn a person becasue there are different ways a people or a person takes death. It is a personal reaction (or the lack of it) according to the capacity of the person in relating with death.

Whatever... to a few among us, Edwin "Bandido" Reyes lives on, and we may just be successful in perpetuating his place in billiards through an annual memorial Edwin Cesar R. Reyes Tournament. Maybe simply "Bandido Cup", which we will have on May 2.

Thx John, glad to know I'm not the only one.

The silence is deafening. I don't get it. Edwin Reyes was a very prominent figure in Filipino pool. There seemed to be quite a few articles, as well as RunoutRadio broadcasts, by and about various Filipino industry members, of which Edwin Reyes was one.

Just like Edwin's very last post on this forum, I'm going to be watching as well. This tragic murder isn't over for me, and as soon as I figure out who to write my letter of outrage to, I'm going to follow through.

He is gone, but Edwin will NEVER be forgotten.

Something about Edwin...

We all saw how headstrong Edwin was in the forums. But did you know that in Davao, Linds witnessed Edwin cry over the death of the kids' hamsters? Of course he did not cry for the hamsters. He sympathized for his kids.
