I am wondering if anyone here has had any experience with instruction from Stan Shuffett. I am considering doing so, but I would like to know if anyone has taken any of his courses and can either recommend them or offer any evaluation of there benefit to the development of their game. Comments from other instructors who are knowledgable of Stan's techniques would be valuable. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I can't tell you anything from personal experience, but everything I've heard or read about Stan has been very good. On the technique thing; we instructors are not prone to sharing our personal techniques with each other, but I think the information you get on the basics is pretty much all the same, while the content in advanced lessons can vary from instructor to instructor. The main consideration (IMO) is the instructor's communication skills. How well does he or she get their points across? I think Stan may have some stuff up on YouTube that could help you get an idea of his style.

I hope this has been helpful to you.

Hi Roger,

I have not posted any videos on youtube. So, there would be nothing located there to indicate my style of teaching.

The actual, real account for me on YOUTUBE is found under Thestanshuffett. To date I have not submitted any videos.

Oh, I'm sorry about that, Stan. I thought I had seen a video with you in it. With a little searching in the right places, however, the OP here should have no trouble in getting testimonials from well-known and respected players.

Roger, No probem at all. I appreciate your good intentions.

Hope to get to meet you one day.

Roger...I'd say you might be speaking about some, but certainly not all instructors. I have shared FREELY with any instructor (BCA or not) that has sought out advice or technique on instruction from me. I believe the same can be said for Randyg, pooltcher, Denny S, and others. Joe Tucker and Blackjack David Sapolis have both shared teaching information with other instructors. It's not rocket science...and certainly not secret information!

To the OP...Stan Shuffett is an excellent instructor, and a great resource to learn from! Take advantage of working with him, as soon as you can!

Why so touchy, Scott? All I meant was that it's not like instructors hold regular meetings to compare notes. Or do they? Maybe the rest of you do, and I just don't get invited. :frown:

Seriously, I think you and the other instructors you mentioned are all great, and I don't even have first-hand knowledge of your techniques. But then, I don't have to. Your reputations speak for themselves.

Roger

Roger...Not touchy at all. I was just responding to what appeared to be a 'blanket statement' about instructors, and wanted you to know that all instructors are not about keeping their teaching techniques 'close to the vest', as it were. You are certainly welcome to come to Vegas in two weeks, and observe the SPF guys in action. I think it's more of a case where some of us get around a lot more, and therefore interact with other instructors, more frequently. Hope to see you!

However, this thread is getting off track. It's about Stan, and I hope the OP goes and works with him, as soon as possible. It'll be a great learning experience!

Would you like to be invited to our next meeting? I can arrange it....SPF=randyg

I second that

Stan's knowledge is top on earth, in my opinion. I learned so much, I wouldn't know where to start.

Best thing I have done for my game . I have bought a few expensive
cues , looking back I should of went to Stan's sooner and bought a
cheaper cue .

Don't take my word for Stan's fabulous efforts on behalf of his students, just ask pro player Stevie Moore and others. I quote Stevie loosely. This is NOT verbatim..."All credit for this win goes to Stan Shuffet. I've been working with him for about a year now, including his aiming systems. Stan has given me the tools to improve and I owe my recent success to him."

Just trust me, RUN DON'T WALK to Stan's for lessons. He will give you those tools too...Tom

I wish that Stan was giving lessons 25 years ago when I started playing. You're only an hour or so away, make an appointment with Stan and put what he shows you to practice and you will improve. Instruction will cut years off your learning. Take advantage of it if you're serious about improving.

Thanks to all who posted about Mr. Shuffet. I have dates to work with him in August. It should be eye-opening...

I hope you will give us a report after your instruction. I have been to Stan's twice. I have learnt a lot from him. I dont get to play or practice as much as I would like but it still has helped my game.

I can not think of sufficient superlative adjectives to describe my experience with Stan's course. I took up the game as a beginner at the age of 65 & am confident that Stan took as much interest in me as he does with the pros with whom he also works or the child prodigies including his son.

As a scholar & professional educator, Stan has developed a scientific approach to the pedagogy associated with teaching the game. As a Professor in a College of Education, as well as his student,I must also rate him as an excellent teacher & researcher.

He takes the same scientific approach to breaking down the various fundamentals of the game.

He still promptly answers my various questions by e-mail at no charge & is genuinely interested in my progress.

My experience with him literally reduced my learning curve by 1000s of hours.

I am also able to compete with far more experienced players.

He is also an extremely pleasant person & humble despite his status as a master of the game. I consider him to be a friend as well as a mentor.
