Prayers needed for a fellow pool player

My good friend Ray Obriant, who has been a pool player in the North Texas area for years, is very ill with heart problems. He’s had a long history of heart problems, and has been in and out of the hospital for the past year. He was recently released from the hospital on Easter Sunday, only to return with complications the following Friday and has been on life support ever since that day. As of 12:00pm today, the decision was made to take him off of life support. He is breathing very little on his own, and doctors don’t give him very long to be with us.

I’ll keep you informed with any information that I know of, once I get to the hospital....

Please say a little prayer...

Ray is one of those guys that after you meet him, you think about him later that night and say to yourself, "what a great, friendly guy."

My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family and I am VERY saddened to hear this news about our dear friend.

Prayer sent. Consider having a pastor spend some time with him.

Ok everyone....here's an update.

I just got back from the hospital and chatted with the entire family. This was the first time that I had met any of his family, yet they all knew who I was and knew all about me. Ray had apparently told them about my pool playing and my recent play in the BCA state tournament.

Anywho...the prognosis isn't good. Ray is in a coma and he had been on life support since last week. He had a fever of 107* and the doctors said that the fever killed the living parts of his body, and started to "fry his brain." (Their words, not mine) The family took the weekend to make a decision about Ray, and at 12:15 pm today, Ray was taken off of life support. Doctors gave him only a few hours to live, but he's still with us as I type this. He's always been a fighter, and it's showing!!!

His kidneys weren't working when he was taken off of life support, and the staff put him on dialysis. Now, his kidneys are working again, and he's breathing a little better as well. Everyone has hope, but trying to be realistic as well. Now it's up to the Big Guy upstairs.

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers everyone!! I consider Ray a good friend, and I was always the first one he called when he was "visiting the hospital." It hurt me so much to see him there, not responding to anyone and not being able to talk to me about the local pool scene. I'm hoping for the best, but I don't want him to live on with such a low quality of life. :(

Sorry to hear about your friend...

Very sad news indeed. Hoping for the best for your fiend and for him to suffer as little as possible.

At about 12:45am, Ray finally got too tired to continue his fight and passed away. He’s going to be missed by a lot of people, and I know he made quite an impression on a lot of people as well. Somehow, I know he probably already managed to find a pool hall in the sky. :)

Thank you to everyone, from the bottom of my heart, for the thoughts and prayers.

And to the local players that want to know the arrangements, I’ll post them in this thread to keep everyone updated the best I can.

This is extremely sad news.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

RIP, Ray.

Sorry to hear about all of this. I'm sure he's in a better place now. Does anyone have a picture they could post of Ray? I'm sure that I'd know him if I saw his face. I played in SWEL for years so I'm sure we met or played each other sometime.
