Hey fellas,

I am looking to get a new cue for my b-day.....I currently have a cheap mcdermott and I am looking for something with a stiffer feel and with in the 200-250 price range....I am also looking for a more traditional look as far as design goes. So far I have looked at lucasi and mali brands.....what do you guys suggest?

Cool, Ruski.

Have you been over to the Wanted to Sell/trade section? This post really deserves to be there.

My question would be why are you buying a new cue? Is the McDermott too heavy/light? Is there something else wrong with it? Honestly, unless there is something really wrong with it, going from a McDermott to a Lucasi/Mali is a sideways step at best.

As for classic look, I think you should look at a nice sneaky pete, if you don't mind not having a wrap.

Otherwise, I have always been a huge fan of old Hueblers, a huebler plain jane can be had used for less than you are thinking of spending.

Good luck.

he said he wanted something stiffer

you might want to try a joss. they're reasonably priced and hit pretty stiff. i believe they sell their shafts with oversized tips so you can have it adjusted. the fact that they use 5*16-14 threads means it'll make it easier to try aftermarket shafts (if that's your thing, it was mine for a while)

or you could try my personal favorite production cue....mezz. they're also pretty reasonably priced but slightly higher than joss cues

thx for the replies folks...sorry for putting this in the wrong thread....ya I tried a joss and it was too stiff... none of you guys like lucasi or mali??? The main thing I like about the mali is their traditional balabushka type look. And Lucasi's have good prices and are stiff but not too stiff.

Also, any suggestions for a good case? I was thinking about getting a guieseppi 2x2, but I am pretty sure if I leave an extra cue lying around in a case while I am at a bar that it would get stolen....any opinions?

Lucasi

I have a lucasi and like it. Seems to me to be a very reasonable cue for the money. There are some other sneakies that look good and are well priced on here also. Good luck with your search.

I love my Mezz cue. I paid about $436 for it. They're great cues for the price.

If you're open to a (slightly) used cue, I have this Joss for sale for $210 Shipped. There's a full description of the cue in this thread http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=128655

Viking, they make a solid, traditional stiff cue in that price range...

IMHO, you can do a bit better finding a used cue in the for sale area here.....$250 can buy a ton of cue, just take your time and get what you want...

I haven't hit with a lucasi or a mali in years, so I have no point of reference. In the end, it doesn't matter what anybody thinks except you. Be sure you hit with the cue you are going to buy, if possible. I know that in the past I'd hit with two vikings back to back and I'd love one, but hate the other (even with very similar spec's).

As for the second cue in a case, you do risk that getting stolen. Are you playing in a busy bar in social settings? Or, are you playing in a league/tourney setting most of the time?

I say that if you are playing in a busy bar without a group of close friends, in a social setting, don't bring a second cue in and watch your player like a hawk. I've seen drunken idiots stumble into cues leaning on tables, ledges, etc. and break them (along with other bits of stupidity).

If, on the other hand, you are in a league/tourney situation, I'd have no problem with having a second cue sitting around. The tourneys I play in usually have a bunch of people I know, we just take over a table and make it the equipment table, all the cases stacked like cord-wood. I have no concerns about my stuff there.

I still break my cue down and put it away if I am not going to be playing for more than 15-20min.

Ya I play in a busy bar with many idiot drunks....I am thinking to just go with a 1x1 for my new cue.

And I will check out the wanted section to see what you guys have to offer, thanks for the input guys.
