Is there a way to record matches?

Hey all-

Unfortunately i will be at work during the yu ram cha match and I would really like to see it.

is there any way to record it at home on my computer for viewing later?

There is software that can do it, but I'd think the material is the possession of someone else and charliewilliamsisgonnakickyourass you need to respect the intellectual property rights of the owner...

ok thats fine. just wondering if there was a way to do it similar to a VCR.

Wasn't meaning to steal anything just wanted to catch a match

might wanna ask CW ie; dragon productions. if it's ok. don't see why he would care so long as your not distributing it.
 
I hear ya, mon!

I wish these streamed events could be available for 2-3$ downloads on demand, but I am sure the possibility is just down the road of technology.
 
Just so you know - the software to record is constantly upgrading as different methods of streaming are used. Three programs that seem to cover all the bases:
1. Orbit Downloader
2. Replay Media Catcher
3. Camtasia

What happens is, someone will change some small thing that hides the relevant streaming link from the program. The program doesn't see it so it fails to capture it. Then the makers of that program update it to fix the issue. Meanwhile a different program might already fix the issue. So between 1 and 2 it's a tossup which will work better at any given moment, you should keep both installed.

If neither works, option 3 records whatever is showing on your screen, but it doesn't do this by directly downloading the movie from the source. It just basically takes a series of rapid screenshots. On a very nice PC you can get 30 frames per second and it's more or less flawless. But on a lesser PC it may be choppy and/or you'll get a huge filesize. Or it just won't capture certain videos anyway and just shows a black area.

Between these options you should be able to save 'em. Good luck and let us know if anything works. Or don't, if you're worried about copyright.
 
Any video that can be saved to computer can be eventually made into a DVD.

Of course, if the file you save seems to be impossible to work with, that's another story.

I tried recording the stream today and found it really difficult. Many programs claim to have successfully recorded it, and I end up with files that are large enough to be actual movies... but the files do not play in any video player (wmp, media player classic, vlc, etc) and do not open in any video conversion program.

I think they just aren't compatible with anything. When you record a live stream it's missing index info that a video needs in order to be decoded properly. Basically if anything can fix these to make them playable, it's such an intense pain in the ass that it's not worth it. If anyone finds a method that works, let me know. After an hour of hassling with it I'm bored >_<

FYI, WmRecorder will capture it fine.... You have a option to grab a window, which you would do so in it's normal size in your browser. Then after the match is done being recorded, you should be able to make it larger. Obviously the quality will suffer.

Yup, I used wmrecorder (among others) to capture. But the resulting file does not play back and cannot be edited or converted.

For fun, I used the wm converter built in with the program to try to convert it and got it to the point where I get a garbled mess that has no color, but at least you can see a pool table, sort of.

After seeing ralf play perfect I wish I'd worked this out and recorded that match. And this next one. I guess I could record it and then fool with the file on a later date, hoping it'll eventually be workable.

hmmm... I get a standard mpeg-2 file that plays in WMP and imported fine into Premiere
 
I'm gonna try again with it. How are you getting mpeg2? Mine just saves in wmv, since it's a wmv stream.

there is a settings button... you can choose mpeg-2 or WM.. you can also choose bitrate and frames per second
 
It defaulted to a !@#!@# ASF. I can get it to play at least but my various conversion programs don't like it. I am working some more with it. It works at least. Good call, this program seems a little sharper about capturing these streams.
