What do you think of this?

I agree with Grady. It seems like there is a bit of unfairness if someone has to agree with a host on certain topics if they want to be on air. Its most unfair for the audience, wouldn't you think? Stuff like that seems like the backbone of late night infomercials.

talk shows can just filter out which callers they want to let on, but they can't do anything to those that don't share the same opinion as them except keep their listeners from hearing them. This isn't a radio or tv show. We are not tape delayed and filtered for certain opinions. This is an open forum.

Ever watched American Idol? Would you rather watch someone who can sing marginally well, or some dude in a bumblebee costume hum "Boom Boom Pow" while standing on his head?

Insanity - doing something the same way every time and expecting a different outcome. Grady didn't get an invite a few years ago, so he rants. Next year after, no invite. He rants again. This year, no invite. Hey - here's a thought. Let's shake things up a little. Instead of a rant, how about trying to work out your differences with the powers that be, and see if you can sweettalk your way into the event? The other approach hasn't been working so far.

What I really want to know is Grady's motives. Does he really want an invite, or does he just want to cry foul about not receiving the invite? Randy/Rick - what would Grady have to do to get an invite to the event for next year? Signed petition? I just want to try to get somewhere with this. Let's try to solve the problem instead of *****ing about the answer.

I promoted 20 tournaments with $15,000 or added and directed 40 more for other promoters. I am proud of the fact that people like my commentary and in general, my work.
Don't you think that, forget about being able to play in anything I want, I have at least accheived talk show status? I don't like any of the radio talk show hosts but they have screeners, meaning you're not likely to get to speak with one of them unless you agree with their philosophys. Maybe once a month they'll take a tough call.
So now there's me. Why don't I have every right to screen out, delete or dilute every negative post? Thank God and Mr. Wilson for the ignore feature.

Grady,
Your pool career pretty much speaks for itself. You were at the top of the game and played toe to toe with the best of em. There comes a time when you have to step aside and let the young guns shoot it out.
My ex-mother in law had a saying. She said "you will attract more bees with honey than vinegar".
You can translate that any way you want, but nobody wants to hear a bunch of complaining all the time. It's much easier to just get along with people and you might be surprised at the results you will get.

But thats what makes the internet better than TV, its all about real people with real opinions.

I can't agree with that statement. Anyone who appears on a TV talk show is revealing their true identity - name and visage. That makes them personally accountable for any opinions they voice. Most people on the internet hide their true identities and then voice opinions that they never want to be held accountable for; such as in a face-to-face discussion with the person they disagree with.

I think TV is better, but, that just MY opinion.

I would like an end to most singing and dancing. That way my time in the poolroom would have just the sound of the balls.

I don't know Grady personally, but I do enjoy his commentary. Even his interview on onepocket.org was pretty informative as well as interesting. In my opinion, Grady is representing a part of pool not many know about. But that probably dosen't matter anymore. Pool know days is about whos better than who and how to market which product. I believe back in Grady's day it was about, well, a lot more. And I would love to hear more of that stuff.
No offense, but I thought Denny Searcy was dead. With all respect.

Well said Roger. Everyone that wants tp blast someone always seem to hide behind a fake name and avitor. I play at Grady's room all the time and maybe he's not the player that he once was, but niether was Arnold Palmer, Jack Nickalos, or Gary Player. But they got an invite from the Masters every year. Hopefully everything will work its way out for all that is concerned. Last, but certainly not least, we all still wish great things for Ms Randy and her fight against cancer.

I disagree, I kind of enjoy the complaining.

i think you're a once great player and still great instructor and ambassador to our game we love so much, who now seems jaded and bitter by making all of these threads about not getting invited to a tournament. please stop doing this. it's like michael jordan playing to long in the nba, like what bret favre is doing in the nfl right now. it's going to tarnish your greatness and your legacy. please just let it go.

Editted original post - I just want this thread to die.

You just made a lot of people's point in all of these threads and you didn't even know it. Why do Arnie, Jack, and Gary no longer play in the Masters even though they have an invite? (Gary played last year, but said it was his last)

Age and PRIDE.
And they have the class to step aside and give their spot to someone younger and worthy.
