Since you asked

You just do not get it, but I suppose what go's around come's around, everyone gets old and that is one thing we can agree on and your day is coming!!!!!!!!!!

I still have faith that some day you will become wise enough to understand when to speak and when to remain silent!!!!!!:yeah::yeah:

Why should I learn when you haven't? :D

oh well, just so we can move on, I'll let you win.

Unfortunately it will never happen, because Jasmin will never gamble. If she did, I would gladly back her with what I've got.

Trust me, I've tried to bet with her on several occasions, in pool, on pool and on other things, but she keeps refusing. Same with Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann. They just don't like to bet.

on a side note, the first time I met Ralf and Thorsten they went out with us to a bar in Athens. I bought Thorsten a shot and he made the most God awful face you've ever seen. Funny stuff.

At first you question Vette like you are Perry Mason, already knowing the answer, on the credentials of Roy. I bet you were shocked when you read his short list, ending your career as an attorney.

Then you try to still continue by saying that his opinions have gotten him no where in this debate. But to me and others, it has. I think that he has shown that there is justification why players like Grady are not in the 14.1 championships. If the rules are changed and the greats of our game are given a blanket invite, then he should be on the top of the list. And just like golf, not all the greats get a special exemption. John Daly has as big of a following as almost any golfer, has won major championships but unless he qualifies or is ranked high enough, he won't be there.

Again, IF you read Roy's posts, you would see that he backs his opinions with facts. Facts on what the invited players accomplished, facts on what the non invited have accomplished.

And your opinion are stones as you hurl them haphazardly without any thought behind them. I have never had an issue with you but when you attack (or attempt to attack) and knock down one of the most knowledgable posters on this board, I find it hard to keep quiet.

Finally, I feel that you were attempting to compare yourself to Roy when you not only asked him about his credentials but also posted pics of your event with Grady. Either you live in a town with one stop sign or you did a poor job as a promoter. I count 15 spectators. I'll make another suggestion and don't continue trying to compare yourself to Roy.

No I simple asked some questions, and no I was not shocked at all nor was I impressed. But, I thing was certainly served I did get my questions answered, so back to River port and have a another drink to calm your nerves your a little tense there fella!!!!!!!:rotflmao1::welcome:

I think you have been out in the Sun to long, I think the glare from the Missouri river has fried your brain Son, you completely missed the point, Focus Focus you can still find inner peace!!!!!!:D

You are completely wrong when you say that I have not thought out what I have said, the problem is that my thoughts on this subject go much deeper than than your ability to comprehend allows, I just do not know how to break it down for you any further!!!!!;)

Finally, I feel that you were attempting to compare yourself to Roy when you not only asked him about his credentials but also posted pics of your event with Grady. I am sorry that your lack of reading comprehension concerning these photo's has lead you to that conclusion, but that is your problem not mine, have another drink it will clear your head!!!!!:embarrassed2: First of all I am not a promoter, and second during Grady's visit there were 48 people present for the event and it was a closed event that was put on for my Customers enjoyment. I was trying to give something back to my regular customers and I totally succeeded so please don't try to stir the pot with your hands you could burn yourself!!!!!:D

Last, I do not have to compare myself to anyone to feel important or to feel adequate, I know exactly who and what I am and I am very happy with that person, can you say the same thing, I doubt it. Like you have said above, I also have had no problem with you on a personal level since I became a member of this forum. In fact I have enjoyed reading many of your posts, even though at times your information of local events ( St. Louis Area ) and players from the past are incorrect. But let me say, I know exactly where you are coming from, where you are living and the environment you are living in because I grew up not far from where you are sitting right now, the only difference is that you are still there.

Have a nice day and remember don't drink that River water it may be Radioactive!!!!!!! Hey that may explain some things, you might want to get yourself checked out!!!!!!:grin-devilish:

So even though Grady hasn't won a World 14-1 Championship, he should still be invited for the rest of his life?

I wouldn't even invite World Champions in 9-ball to future World 9-ball Championships. I think the rule Matchroom/WPA has, with inviting the champions from the 5 past years, is a good rule.

If you haven't won the Championship the last 5 years, you better qualify.

Should Daryl Peach be invited to all coming World 9-ball Championship till he dies? Didn't think so...

They invite the past Masters champions to play until they elect not to themselves. That's a major golf tournament.

I remember (I think) way back when Bjorn Borg wanted to come back and play one of the majors he was told he would have to qualify and he declined.

I personally believe there should be some kind of point based seeding and then a qaulification system for to fill out the field (not sure if that's how it's done or not).

I have been reading this thread and it struck me that there is some personalities here which turns the discussion in certain directions.

I have understood that the pool scene is fairly complicated and for sure there is politics going around.
Who is getting invited to where seems to be related to several different
background processes which I'm not even tempting to get involved in and
don't know that much about either.
John seems to know a lot about this and I only feel sad when I see the
outcome of the "pool politics" going on in the Philippines (which is a total different story but I just mention it).

Then we can discuss who's best "now" or has been - and I guess this is
what the politics is all about. And not to mention the biggest factor - Money.

Now, I know Roy and he is very into the local pool scene and I think he and
all of us should be aloud to make our opinions in a public forum like this
without being asked almost "what have you done for me lately" as a certain comedian said in a stand up show.
This is not what the forum is all about. If a person has a valid point, he/she
(in my eyes), has credibility even if he is not "dry behind the ears" in some
of the other posters eyes.

I do understand Craig, that age some times play a part in certain
discussions, crafts and the like. However bringing this "point" in to the
discussion in you're usual way is not always that helpful either.
Specially when you start discussing what certain posts and posters is contributing to the discussion......

You and me have earlier been in heated discussions where I got the tap on
my shoulder basically saying "I'm not old or experienced enough to have a opinion".

For me this is putting you're self above others and judging that others are not aloud to have an opinion, except from you.
At the end it almost sounds like a car buyer talking to a car mechanic asking "how many car's have you built" ?
- "None".
"Ohhhh dear you don't know anything about cars than so I can't talk to you"...
Think about it and you would understand how it feels to get these types of comments.

Roy has organized a lot and has a tremendous network of friend in the pool
scene and in my eyes he's fully entitled to make a comment without the
"wait to you get old enough" side comment.
But I guess I'm not entitled to have an opinion since I have not organized a tournament.....

I have a lot of respect to Grady and all of the posters in this thread,
and I do by no means tempt to make any statement to why he's not invited.
For me this is politics which I leave to the parties involved with the pool "politics" - which I'm sure is a lot of people and for sure not include me.

However, I have to agree that a tournament with a lot of my pool heroes
participating (which includes many of the players listed in post #68) would
for sure be a event I would love to see.
Specially of some of the new hotshots/hot-babes was mixed into the participation.

However, this is something I would have to leave to the "Tournament police"
and that is something I think many of us should do, and leave all the side comments and justifications alone.

And I have still not EVER put a person on my ignore list.
When the evening is over, I leave the discussion as they ended and for sure
don't have any "nags" against the same person I have been in heavy battle with
Of course, I would talk to the person again. That's how I learn at least.

Happy shooting and hope a tourney/WC with a "all open" field could be established somewhere - sometime.

You're right, as usual, John. Grady IS a better pool player than me. So, therefore, as a casual fan, and someone who has bought every one of Grady's tapes, I am not entitled to an opinion.

In fact, all invitational events will be looked after herein by John Collins, er, I mean John Barton, and Grady Mathews (you spelled his last name wrong).

Put $10k up on Grady if you want to send him up. I'll play him $10k at what he does for a living. Then he can come work with me in communications test and measurement for $20k. We'll see who wins that. Let's not make pool the end-all, be-all. Grady chose this as his profession. I did not. Tell you what, here's your all around, clown. I'll play Grady at 9-ball, 10-ball and 1-pocket. Race to 5 in each. If I win ONE game, I win the set. $10k per set. THEN, Grady comes out with me and tests 3 fibre optic networks. $10k per network. If he finds the problem before me, he wins. DEAL?

I play at about 50% of his speed in HIS PROFESSION. I could spot him the 1 out and the break in mine. Douche.

You don't play 10% of Grady's speed. In anything. If you want to compare then IF Grady had chosen your profession then he would have excelled at at and you would be working FOR him.

The ONLY thing that you can do EXTREMELY well, and I mean absoulutely WORLD CLASS with few equals, is to make stupid dumbass posts that contribute NOTHING of substance and are full of DISRESPECTFUL drivel.

In that game you are the best Vincent, you are really the best.

Gosh dang it Newton, don't you have a Cod head to nibble on, you Norwegians !!!!!:D At least get it right Bud, I don't sell cars I sell and make cues!!!!!

I am always the first to say that the women cannot compete on the whole with the men. I argued with John Barton until I was blue in the face that Brian White, whom many have not heard of and doesn't even play in pro events, would beat his favorite woman and world heralded champ, Kelly Fisher.

That being said, if Grady plays Jasmin in straight pool I will bet $10,000 on Jasmin.

Any man who wants to play two person tournaments with Kelly knows who to contact to make the arrangements. Kelly has a pretty good backer in the Carolinas who can take care of all the negotiations.

If Jasmin and Grady ever comes off I will be happy to bet on Grady's side of it.

Grady, I don't disagree. This happens in the business world all the time. People get passed over for promotions because the boss' son just graduated from school and needs a job. They are the promoters, so it is their right to invite who they want. Does it stink? Yes. Can anything be done about it? How about not insulting the guys that guard the front door? I would love it if someone would put together a World Championship with OPEN ENTRY. EVERYONE should be able to compete at a World Championship. This event may as well be called the "DP Invitational 14.1 Championships", and they could invite Charles Barkley and Hank Haney to the event.

Yes, discrimination stinks, but it is a fact of life. It happened to me today. The cute girl beside me got chosen first in line at the Starbucks by the young man at the counter. Am I going to write a letter to Starbucks? Nope. In the cosmic scheme of things, it's small potatoes. If I were you, I'd settle for being perhaps the best teacher and commentary guy on the planet, and let them have their little tournament. We all know who should and shouldn't be there. Keep your head up, and realize the pool world loves you. Three people do not speak for all of us.

Once again your comparisons are off base and childish. If you had been passed over at work for that big promotion that you deserved due to nothing other than favoritism then I CERTAIN you would be singing a different song.

You presume to lecture someone about how they should handle their business (in a "business" where you truly are the lowest rung on the pole), and in effect your advice is "shit happens, suck it up", when you have absolutely no clue how much this affects him to be disrespected so badly by the very people who SAY that they are there for the benefit of all pool players. And you are so clueless that you can't see how this sorry ass advice and lame examples are in themselves completely disrespectful.

I will take that action. Get it set up as an exhibition $10,000 to the winner and $1000 to the loser. Jasmin spots Grady 160 in 500 point block.

there you go wanting a spot again. That guy didn't even ask to bet. He was just stating his opinion.
If they play even, race to 500 you can bet as much as you want. Seriously, AS MUCH AS YOU WANT!

I guess my memory may not be what it used to be, but I thought Danny won the 14.1 World Championship in Vegas that Grady put on in the Mid 90's.

Cueman,
Here's Danny's wins in the 1990's.....

1996 Senior 9 ball tournament in Arlington, Va

1997 French Open 9 Ball

1998 French National 9 Ball

Bobby Hunter won the World 14.1 Championship in 1990. That tournament was not held again until 2003.
(Danny won the 1972 Johnson City 14.1 Championship)

I didn't say I want a spot. Someone else said they would bet on it if Grady gets 160. I already said I'd bet it even well before seeing or responding to the post about Grady "needing" a spot from Jasmin.

I am a huge Jasmin fan and you already know I feel that the top women are capable of taking down the top men in any given race.

In a race to 500 though I don't think Jasmin can get there against Grady. That is IF Grady is in shape. If he is flailing then sure she can win. But if he is in 100 ball running mode then she can't get there.

Again though this is all academic. It will never happen but if it does you can be certain that I will bet all I want to.

Barton, pull your head out of your self serving ass. The guy was making a joke, for crying out loud. Did someone pee in your cereal today?
