I don't know how to title this

This is a very difficult post for me to make, as I have always been a fiercely proud and independant man. My wife is dying from three different kinds of cancer. My business is struggling and I have my own health problems but I'll probably live til' I'm at least 80. Besides family, friends and country the only thing that ever mattered to me was pool.
Instead of picking at me for for really bad reasons why not put forth a 100% AZ effort to get me invited to the Straight Pool tournament. I'd love to be AZ's pro and I have a lot to offer, especially with my new material, which will be coming out in Sept.
Some other things you probably don't know about me:
1. If an establishment had good equipment in a place I was working, I'd offer this to an owner: If I didn't run a 100, I'd work for nothing. If I did he'd pay me double.
2. I ran more than a hundred balls in 71 pool rooms, this with different balls, lights, tables and cloth.
3. I hold the high run record on tables with four inch pockets, one of these in the 180's.
4. I robbed, giving up weight, some much ballyhooed players, at 14.1. I won't mention their names for obvious reasons.
I'm not a bitter old man. I am opinionated but I can still play and it's criminal for me to not get to play in the 14.1 tournament.

My only response to this, for what it's worth, is you and your wife are in my prayers. I sincerely pray that both of you find peace.

Didn't Trudeau call the 8 ball championship betw Sigel and Loree Jon Jones a World Championship along with some others? Did anyone sue in that instance?

I don't believe it was. I don't think mike considers it one of his world titles, lol.

I know there were some negotiations between the ipt and the wpa about working together initially. Eventually, it became a hostile and adversarial relationship. KT felt the wpa was shaking him down, etc.

We all know what KT's intentions were. Everything comes out in the wash....

Grady I think you are a great ambassador for our sport and would love it if you were invited to play. I'm also ashamed for some of the negative comments being thrown at you including the ones from Steev. Some people are clueless I guess. You are great in my book and I wish you all the best with your family and career. Sincerely, Phil Welch

Pretty sure I kept quiet the first three years he did this.

As to who has a clue, whatever, man. I don't think you're in a position to judge [anyone].

In order for an event to be titled "world championship", it must be sanctioned by the WPA. Only one event can receive that sanctioning in each discipline (ie; 8ball, 9ball, 10ball 14.1 etc). I expect if another event attempted to call itself
a 14.1 world championship, it would get played out in court rather than on a pool table.

The fact that the WPA sanctions CW's "World Championships*" is an absolute joke and says a lot about the WPA. Yes they're tournaments and yes they have good players but no, they are not true world championships. The *world* is not represented and it is not filled with the worlds best players that earned a spot in a World Championship. The people CW like are represented and there are only 3 or 4 qualifiers. One can only guess that CW won't allow anymore qualifiers than that because he doesn't want to risk someone he really doesn't like getting into the event. Its a "good ol boy" club, plain & simple.

In the US we had a presidential election where someone won the popular vote (gore) and someone else won the electoral majority (bush). Many felt gore won and didn't want to recognize bush as president. Guess what, bush was president.

It doesn't matter what you or I think about the validity of these world championships. They will ALWAYS go down in the history of pool as authentic championships. That's a FACT!

On the IPT web site, the video of that match is listed as the "2005 World 8-Ball Championship".

Good thing posts on the forums can be archived so the real facts behind the "FACT" can be shown to generations to come when CW's "World Championships*" are discussed. :p

Isn't the event an "invitational"? That's pretty much the definition.

You're barking up the wrong tree. Call Charlie or whoever is in charge and make nice. He who has the gold makes the rules and you ain't got no gold - they do. It's like kissing a cop's ass while they write you a ticket--- it makes me sick too--- but that's your only chance.

When you make the call, better put in your mouthpiece so you don't grind your teeth flat. I wish you the best--- but posting on azb about this will get you nowhere.... go to the source of the problem.

Um... so I wanted to check it out for myself and I googled "Dragon Promotions" (that's the name of the promotional company, right?)

Anyway, I thought you guys would get a kick out of this... I am at work right now, and when I tried to log on to the Dragon Promotions website, my office filter blocked it sighting the following:

"Phishing and other frauds"

(If you don't know what phishing is, I looked that up too: The act of sending an e-mail to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft.) LOL :p

i likes phishing. i wanna be a phisher.

now everybody!

PHSSSSSSST.

enough already.

Me too. Why would Grady still want to play in a tournament ran by someone who is awful for our sport?

Another way of looking at it is: Why would someone who has been publicly called awful for our sport have any interest in inviting the name-caller to play in his tournament?

We all know the answer - Charlie Williams can't possibly have any interest in inviting Grady after all that has been said. Bridges have been burned and the embers burned and burned again - annually, apparently. Further discussion seems pointless.

I feel sorry for the illness in Grady's family and understand it's not the happiest time in his life. I wish him well, truly, and hope he remains a contributor to our forum.

It holds absolutely no weight at all. This isn't an opinion. In fact, it's counter productive. His posts over the last 4 years, and those that side with Grady, have made it an impossibility to be invited, ever........

ps; and he knows this already.

And the moral of the story is

that getting old is not for sissies. (it's the shits per my 87 year old Mom)
