I am wanting to try butterfly points for the first time, I believe I understand the process but if I start out with flat veneers do I need to press them. I also want to know if I can just make two angle cuts to a turning blank that is still square, glue my veneers and point wood to it and turn it round after it dries. If there is an easier way I would love to know about it. Thanks

You seem to be on the right track - you don't have to do
anything to the veneers before you glue them and the 'point' wood
to the blank.

No easier way I know of

Sheets of veneer material try to curl up on me, if left to their own devices, once damp with glue. A press, or atleast something flat and heavy, will keep 'em nice and flat until the glue sets.

You are correct. If you use a thin epoxy like West system then the veneers will stay flatter. The will curl up a little if left un-contained. If you use wood glue that is water based they will curl up twice as much and twice as fast.

Just my opinion.

like jim said dont use wood glue use west system or gorillia glue
