Rubber bumpers new ideas

I finished the mold for the old brunswick bumpers I did 2 molds one is 55 cavitie the other is 4 cavitie. I was thinking when finishing this up today I bet there cuemakers that might like certin colors to match the stick or inlay material this is now possible we have a complete tinting kit also so we can do just about any color under the sun, also mold wise we can do a custom mold even with... say a name in the mold so they can custom to your cue to start with we will do the brunswick style bumper in differant colors then move on to a second mold thanks lee

ill post some pictures tomorrow when i take them out of the mold

Thanks, just when I thought I was being differant with green stacked leather bumpers, now everyone will have colored butts. Oh well guess I will have to come up will something new!

I have cast my own bumpers for years using the Smooth on products. It is very easy to make molds for most simple bumpers.

You tint them with tintsall

You can make a lot of nice colors. All shades of brown or reds what ever you like. I like dark gray but have made dark red that looked really nice. The molds can be made out of Delrin on the lathe in just a few minutes. The T type bumpers are the easiest but you can actually make anything. For the limited amount of bumpers the average cue maker uses it is no problem.

A mold for the "T" typer or plug type can be made by just drilling two holes in a piece of Delrin rod, putting a piece of masking tape over the end and pouring in the liquid rubber.

I've had those pages bookmarked for sometime........just figured if I could get someone else to do it I'd pay them.

You can pay him and donate to his CNC-recovery program.
What he'd do with that cnc, I dunno.

Lee, I'd go for brown SW-style bumper.

What is the height of the bumpers? Most of the bumpers today are too, low around 1/2 inch, to be replacements for most of the older cues that use those type of bumpers like Balabushka, Black, Scruggs and others.
 
the height is .590 just like the old style the picture does make them look short its the angle, when we started i used a old brunswick bumper just to make sure
we EDM the pockets on the final mold then light glass blast to asure an even texture. the rubbers in the picture were done in the 4 cavity mold which does have all the fine finish, we used that for testing and making the first run to check them i plan on making them very affordable to anyone needing them lee
 
LOoks really good, I think I would rather buy them than make them myself. Another great idea from Brianna, nice job.

The thing is, once you have made yourself a couple molds it just takes a few minutes to whip up the liquid rubber and make some bumpers. With the tint you mix the colors same as an artist does. You can make exactly whatever you want. Match the color of say a veneer in the cue or an inlay. Maybe come up with a unique color that is just for your cues. Or maybe want to make a different size of type of bumper unique to your cues. Not saying you need to cut your own screws or anything, but do as much as you can to further your knowledge of your art. There is something about doing as much as you can in-house and yourself that adds to the art of cue making.
