Can I get rid of that hideous ferrule or will it negate all of the LD properties.

Id rather buy and ob1 than a predator but that ferrule is just to distracting. So if I buy it and replace it with a standard ferrule will I just be defeating the purpose of buyin the shaft at all?


and if changing the ferrule isnt that big a deal then what would be the best type of ferrule to put on it?
 
I think Royce answered this already.With a normal ferrule the deflection would be bigger.after a week or so you won't even notice the ferrule.
I have a different question.With the pad between tip and the ferrule gone how many chances are that something bad would happen to the ferrule?is it possible that the ferrule would stay intact?
 
You'll lose notice of the ferrule in a very short time.
The one thing I do wish, is that they'd do a better job of turning the ferrule smooth & polishing it. They often have small pits, etc, that fill with dirt & chalk. I love my OB1's, but this is a quality issue that should be addressed because the consumer deserves it.

Nekdo - I'd get with Royce about the pad - before taking any chances.

Alot of people are concerned about the ferrule. Personally however ,I don't know a single person that still had any concerns after like 10 mins on the table. Honestly , it's less 'distracting' than the bright white piece of plastic that's on there now. :)
 
I had a local cuesmith change my tip and he took off the spacer
and the ferruel came apart. You need the spacer on the cue for it to
work properly ...
 
look at the object ball and stop looking at the ferrule! :)

you'll get used to it, i never found it to be a problem.

you MUST have the carbon fiber pad in place or very bad things will happen to your shaft!

Thats just great! I think I'm in same shit.I just got the shaft back but i haven't played yet.How soon did the ferrule break appart?
 
This is the first place you should look for information on OB cue shaft/ferrule/tip care/ repair.

You might try applying a couple of thin coats of super glue to the ferrule to "seal" the ferrule.

Do not remove the special fiber pad even when you replace your tip.

Read the info on the website to get up to speed on their tips.

For some individuals, it takes time to get used to the uniqueness of the OB shafts. Most of the time, a night of playing with it and you will not care what color the ferrule is, how tiny the tip, how big the tip, how stiff of a hit it has, how soft a hit it has, how much feedback it gives, how much English you can put on the cue, how easy it is to control the cue ball, how ....well, you get the picture. It took me one night of playing with the OB2 shaft to get used to it.

The other night we actually had a better player than myself saying that the low deflection shafts provide greater cue ball squirt. At first, we thought he just got his terms mixed up, which is easy to to. After we found out he knew what the terms were, we knew for sure he was just off his rocker.:D I hope he never uses an OB 2 shaft for more than a few minutes because he is already a very good player. If he gets any better I will have to contact genomachino. :smile:

I predict that within one year there will be an enormous number of people who have converted to the OB cue shafts. I could make a fortune selling OB 2 shafts but I'm not going to tell anyone how. :cool: I might need to replace some of the cash I lost last weekend playing one pocket in Mobile or I might need a little extra dough to put myself in action with the GINGER BREAD MAN. ;)

Just call OB cues and have your cue repair guy order some additional compositie fiber pads and have THE CUE REPAIR GUY GO TO THE WEBSITE TO LEARN HOW TO REPLACE THE TIPS. There is a good technique detailed on their website.

The shaft is still unplayed so i hope do damage has been done yet.i had no idea this pad is so easy to remove
As far as the quick repair...i'm from europe :rolleyes:

You are still ok!

Just have your cuesmith call us for some pads, they are pretty cheap. He can then replace the tip again with the carbon fiber pad. The pads really are important!

Also, if he reads our website section on care and maintenance that Joey was eluding to, he will learn a method where as he doesn't have to cut away any of the current pad. This method can be used on conventional shafts as well so that you don't cut away any of the length of the ferrule. Sheldon Lebow posted this information quite a while ago in the cuemakers section. It is by far the best way I have seen to cleanly prep the end of the ferrule, or pad in our case, for the tip to be glued in place.

Joey mentioned using Super Glue to seal the ferrule. This has proven to be fairly popular. Most cuesmiths have done something like this before, so just ask yours if he knows how. If he doesn't have him call me and I can walk him through it.

Ok nekdo was the only one who even attempted to answer my question. Telling me that ill get used to it is not an answer.
My cue is full of ivory and a white ferrule looks alot better when its all put together.

If it does away with all the LD properties then i guess ill just buy a predator.

I agree. It took me 1 hour to forget all about the ferrule. anytime i use a cue with a white ferrule it freaks me out for two days!
