WPBA Colorado Classic in Ignacio??!!

Will this casino event be allowing in the under 21 players that weren't allowed to play at the Michigan City casino?

I always thought the under 21 rule is applicable to being in the gaming area (unless that is where they hold the actual tournament) - otherwise under 21 does not apply to the hotel , restaurants , non -gaming rooms etc.

Come on, you guys all know the drill with these events. The WPBA (or any promotion for that matter) plays in the place that pays for the event and is willing to add $$$. The tribes have been very supportive of pro pool over the years and the vast majority of the WPBA events are held at Indian casinos as a result.

Yes, Ignacio looks to be in BFE, but if the ladies are getting paid and pool is getting on TV, who cares where the venue is? If they put this event in Denver, do you really think people would be standing in line for tickets? They'll get people who are staying at the hotel and casino to watch the matches and will fill it up for the TV tapings just like they always do.

Sorry, grouchy today and this thread just seems to be piling on to the WPBA for the sake of piling on.

No, at the Michigan City event the ballroom was seperate from the gaming area and you did not have to go near or through it to get to the ballroom. Outside of the ballroom there was a sign that only those 21 or over could enter. Also, during the live stream the first couple of days, there were a couple of the under 21 players on there saying how they could not play in the event because of it.

This is also my understanding. At Michigan City there were state laws or local laws I believe which prevented the under 21 players from participating at a casino.

With few events on the schedule this year, I'm sure the WPBA was happy to have this casino step up and host this. Who knows, the locals might surprise everyone and bring in large crowds. I may be there myself. I have relatives in Durango and I need an excuse to take some vacation time.

Also, there's a friendly poolroom in downtown Durango called Durangopongo (I believe).

IIRC it was called Colorado Pongas, and was in the downstairs of a building on Main and maybe 8th? It was a nice little place, and the tables were very well kept when I was there.

That was the name! How could I forget it?

I do remember the name of the great Mexican restaurant in the area - Franciscos. Real good food.

We thought Franciscos was real mexican food ....... until we moved to Tucson. I do have very fond memories of eating there as a little kid, and it was great food, even if it wasn't entirely authentic. I think Franciscos is almost right across the street from the poolroom. Thanks, now I'm getting hungry.

So I'll be seeing you there?
Actually I met a couple of AZers at the last event during the last day or so, and had a good time.
I'll be driving in from Galveston when I go, but I may be up for hitting some balls at Ponga's or driving up the food prices at Francisco's....lol:wink:
Regardless, I hope it gets a good turn out, and alot of local support, especially from those willing to drive for it.
Not everywhere is able to host an event, so I'm all for those that are willing to step up and do it!

Thanks for the info on room rates, I was going to check on that after I found out how many were going to make the trip with me.....
Whiskey....well, we may have to find someone to help support the liquid beverages of our festivities...;)lol

measureman and Cuephoric...Try Priceline, and name your own price. You might get lucky, and get those rooms for less than $50! I do it all the time, all over the country...in big cities, and out in the boonies (well, not TOO far in the boonies...but I bet Durango would be in the Priceline lineup). Worth a try! :D

Remember, Dave...you can drive 60 miles, east or west, and find 9' tables (in Gunny, at WSC or G.J., at The Corral). I thought you had your own 9'?

I live in Montrose, which is around 3 hours north of Ignacio. I can speak for Montrose when I say that other than the senior citizens activity center, there are no 9 footers in this town, and the only 7 footers are at the local bars where they get moved twice a week to make room for the makesshift dance floor! So it would be my bet that there's not much of a chance of finding a table in that town that would be in any shape for what I would consider 'player' types.
I'd still like to go, but I'm one of those types that once I start seeing all the playing going on, I'd start getting the itch to play.

I'm trying to contact the casino and the WPBA to get a 100% answer on whether there is the age limit of having to be atleast 21 to take part in the event... I know someone who is interested in playing in a qualifying event, if she qualifies, will she even be allowed to play in the event? That is my biggest worry about it all. Any Answers? I have yet to get replies.

The tournament is not in the casino. It's in the large multi purpose conference type room. You could try to confirm with Anne (Frogkissin) Craig.

Anne is on vacation in Paris. I'm sure that is why you haven't heard back from her on this. I can't remember when she said she would be back. Sorry! Maybe try contacting one of the other board members. I believe there are links to their email on the WPBA website.
