A Formal Introduction

...Move your bridge hand back and put your chin right on the stick. Look out at the shot, not down at the shot. Sorry! I can't help myself.

Tom, I hope you won't mind my responding to this. I busted up laughing, when I read it. Not that it's bad advice. It's good advice. It's just that it won't work for me. I'm 4' 11" short and a bit "round", so just bending over the table can sometimes be a real challenge. If I put my chin on the cue, I'm gonna hit the light, not the cue ball, because my boobs are gonna push the back of the cue downward.

Sorry. I just could not resist. I do like to get down low on most of my shots, though. I just can't do the chin thing and sometimes, I just have to stay raised up to shoot.

My husband is Gene La Viness, aka "Crown Cues."

After having heart attacks and cancer in the past 4 years, I'm thankful to be alive, but I'm learning to adapt to my health interrupting my life, once in a while.

We have 4 grown boys and 4 grandchildren, ages 2-15, with another one coming on January 4th. They already have him named and I already have him nicknamed. (Each of our grandchildren get special nicknames from Granny.)

We just joined a pool league for the first time since before my health issues stopped me in my tracks. I think I can be fairly reliable on a team, now. I hope. I'm gonna give it an extremely serious effort, at least. Even if I can't make a ball on some nights, I should be able to show up for an evening per week. This is the first year I've really been able to do very much socializing, since 2005. I just hope everyone will be patient with me, while I work at getting my game back.

I'd write more, but storms are moving in and I have some things to do, before I shut down the computer. Nice to "meet" you.

Nice thread Tom. Like you I'm a "lifer" in pool. Been involved in the game in some capacity for over 40 years now. I used to play pretty good myself, but never your speed. My heyday was the 60's and 70's. The best East Coast guys I ever beat were Jimmy Fusco and Larry Lisciotti, but it was only one match each.

Tom, your name is not unknown in the pool world. When you were beating everybody in the New England area the rest of the pool world knew about you. I think Shorty was the first one that mentioned you to me a zillion years ago. He was a character wasn't he?

I can remember when you started out on here and you got some heat from a few members. I like the way you hung in there and became a "regular." Pretty sure I saw you at Derby City this year. Correct? I was playing Dr. Bob for a while. A little friendly One Pocket. Look forward to meeting you and sharing some stories.

By the way Tom, my response here is called a "post" and what you started is a "thread." I think you got a little confused on the terminology. Like you I can barely post a photo, let alone do all the crazy stuff people do on here. I'm a slow learner though.

my name is jason. i live and play here in the atlanta area. i started shooting with some friends when i was younger, mostly just for fun. i stoped playing all together for about ten years to pursue a career as a chef. don't believe what you see on t.v. it's a ball breaking thankless job. about two years ago i quit cooking and moved here to a suburb just north of atlanta and joined the apa and bca to try and meet some people. after about a year i fell in with some better players and started to take pool seriously. now i try to play for 3-4 hours a day four to six times a week and i try to take a lesson when i can. pool has been good to me i met a lot of people in the leagues, including my girlfriend who i've been with now for about a year and a half, i've made some cash playing in tournaments and had a lot of fun. i get on az just about every day and try to post something if i have something to say. i hope this photo does not induce vomiting.

Jason (aka Evil), the way you stand and hold the cue is reminiscent of Barry Emerson, who was (is?) a damn good player. His style/look threw a lot of players off and they thought he wasn't that good. He robbed a lot of guys for a lot of years. Last I heard he was working around Indianapolis. If anyone knows about him, let me know. I always liked the guy. He'd be in his late 30's now.

And I believe I just happen to have a pic of Jay, too :)

Hi Tom,

My name is Joey Aguzin. Just thought I would say hi. I have to say your unique and genteel thread doesn't match the ferocious and competitive photo that Steve Booth posted of you.

Congratulations on your soon to be status as a grandfather. I've heard about your prowess on the pool table from others who have passed your way, so the level of your play comes as no suprise.

I'm from the other east coast a little South of you but hope to meet up with you one day and say hello.

One wife, one son and one boat.

Best Regards,
JoeyA

I'm honored to introduce myself Tom. My name is Don Lundy. I own and operate a dump truck in Kalispell,Montana,up in the Rocky Mountains. Pool and fishing are my addictions. This is the perfect area to feed the fishing compulsion but it's the armpit of the pool world up here. So I put a table in the basement, joined all the local leagues, play what local competitions I can and spend a lot of time living the game vicariously through the members of AZ billiards. And in doing so I get to meet people like yourself. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing a little of yourself. And oh,if your ever up this way?

Hi. I'm Dave. My pool bio can be found here. I like providing links to stuff.

Welcome to the board. There's a lot of crap here, but there's also lots of friendship ... and sometimes even some good information.

Enjoy your stay,
Dave

Hey One-Pocket,

Thanks for posting a picture of me. The reason I started this, I believe, Thread, was so people could know there is more than one side to myself and all of us that play this game. In other words, "There's more to life than, than pool. It's just a big part of our's and sometimes it really doesn't reflect who we really are."

That said, "I'm reaaly happy people are responding to my introduction. Like Jay said, "I started off on shakey ground, but I've learned the ropes and try to contribute some worthwhile information.

To the lady in Oklahoma. I've never been in your shoes. Being short does have it's advantages. Having boobs, that's a problem, I can't help you with. Maybe one of the other ladies on here could help.

Dr. Dave, Cornerman, JDB, Joey A. Pulzcul, Thanks for taking the time to respond.

As far as East Coast Players and especially, Larry, (Boston Shorty), goes, if Larry mentioned my name, that was the highest praise of all. He wasn't known for his social skills, but we loved him, no matter what.

I'm off for the rest of the day. Family get-together. Talk to you all later.

Hey,
I'm Sagi and I'm addicted to pool and pool cues...
I'm from Israel so if anyone is in the neighborhood and wants a tour to the local scene just give me a call...

If I'm not at the pool hall or on AZB then you can find me on facebook as well http://www.facebook.com/sagik1

Cheers

Hey Tom this is Percy Richardson in Navasota Texas. I played for years from 1974-1983 allthe time. Then in 84-93 played a couple of times a week. I was fortunate enough to live in Shreveport La. when Buddy Hall was at Guys & Dolls every day. Then in Houston in the early 80's when Earl was playing there every day and night. This page is my sons he lives in Shreveport La. I have just joined and can't post yet. I played well enough to make good money inthe early days but not enough to live on.
Now married with a beautiful wife and two boys 26 and 30. They like to play and has started me back a little. I have had back problems and can't bend enough to get in stroke. I also have a custom knife shoop here and make knives for a living. my web site is richardsonhandmadeknives.com.
Just purchased a new Carolina Cue beautiful it is. Am thinking of maybe making a few cues. Toe-Boy a cue maker in Texas is a friend and will be starting back up soon and I may learn some from him if I decide to do that.
Hope to read your book soon and some others I have seen.
Have a great day and let the balls roll true.
Percy

jay and tom,
thanks for the kind words and advice. both are always welcom. tom i would love to get lower over my shots but what that picture does not clearly show is the gut that is the size of a small woman or child that i carry around. i have gained a bunch of weight over the last year and i'm trying now lose it. when i do maybe i'll look you up for a lesson. i was born in CT. and still have family in NY and CT and my parents still keep a place in RI so i am up in your area every once in a while. jay thanks for comparing my stance to someone who could actually shoot:grin: seriously though my game gets better all the time and i am getting to the point where some of the local guys who thought they'd be robbing me giving up the 6 out are *****ing when i ask for the 8. someday i hope to sneak up on people and drop 'em playing dead even.

Are you the Tom?

Did you do really well in the senior's division at either a BCA or Windy city tournament (won or 2nd) If so I believe we played before. I was just a kid then but I have a knack for remebering every pool player I ever seen or played

Hey Jason, The Rich Inc, Sagi, and Huckster,

I just thought I'd add a little more information about myself before answering your posts.

I'm the youngest of four children. I had two older brother's and an older sister. One of my brothers, the second oldest, was killed in a car crash at age 25. He was quite a high school pitcher. He was good enough, to get a tryout for the Boston Red Sox. The day he was killed, he won a golf tournament. My family, needless to say, was never the same, after he was killed.

Both my sister and brother are still living. My brother is a retired police officer and my sister, is a nanny, for her three grandchildren.

I hope you don't mind me adding to my life's story now and then.

To The Rich Inc, I spent for months in Louisiana. Good old Fort Polk. Never made it to Shreveport.

Huckster, that wasn't me. I do resemble, Grady, a little, maybe it was him?

Jason, anytime your in the area, let me know. I retired last year, I could take you anytime, for a lesson. I bend my legs and my back. Kind of like going to the bathroom.

I'm getting a lot of pictures. Saki and the fellow from Montana, looks like you both have quite the set-up. Thanks for sharing.

There's our connection Tom. I did my time at good old Ft. Polk in 1966. UGH!!! From there, I drove directly to Johnston City, which was already underway. True story.

I went through Shreveport later on and met Tony Fargo at Guys and Dolls. He gave me a cheap Bank Pool lesson.

Jay,

It's a very small world and a lot of us share many things in common. I know you also lost a brother, from reading your book.

We also shared a fondness for the funny cigarettes. It was part of our culture, growing-up. Luckily I found out I couldn't function at the table, high on the stuff. I saved, my puffing, for after I played.

More about my crazy childhood. I smoked my first cigarette at nine years old. My grandmother, got me started. We were at my summer home, in Littleton, Ma. and it was a rainy day. My grandmother didn't know what to do with four young kids so she decided to give us each a cigarette. At the age of ten, I was smoking a pack a day. It's amazing I'm still around. Between smoking, for thirty or so years and all the second hand smoke in the rooms I played in, it's a miracle I'm alive.

I waited for years before alcohol entered my life. I was at the grand old age of thirteen.

When I was twenty-one, I celebrated my birthday, in the bar I was drinking in for five years. Losing my hair, early in life, had to have some benefits.

I happy to say, the booze, drugs and cigarettes are a thing of the past.

Well once again, I have written more about my life.

I hope this isn't boring all of you, to death.

Don't be shy. Tell me something about yourself, or ask me questions.

I'm leaving, in a short time, for the coast of New Hampshire and eventually stopping in Kittery, Me. at Lawton's, a great seafood restaurant.

Talk to you all, later on.

HI all,
I'm Mark Otto central Il, I've played pool for over 40 years now (off and on).
I can stop anytime I want to.... Well Maybe not!! : )
Married and 4 kids ( all big now) but not necessarily grown up.
I am new to posting here, but I have lurked around the pool posts along time and use to post back on Rsb 10 or 12 years ago until they got slammed with trash.
I have come up with a pool trainer and DVD I am very excited about. www.teachmepool.com
I work at A Jr. High school and I am starting a billiards club following the BEF guide.
Giving some lessons and looking forward to retiring from work to play more pool!
Nice to be here and hope to get around pool alot more now that the kids are grown.
Mark
