All shots the same??

Recently a local shortstop told me that 'all shots are the same'.

I don't know what he meant exactly. When I asked, he said-'figure it out'.

After some thought-I wonder if he is talking about hitting shots with a consistent speed. Firm but not hard; then play position with that speed with cb manipulation.

I know that one speed doesn't cover all situations-but my tendency to slow roll shots gets me in trouble.

I'm struggling here. I'm trying to figure it out.

What do you think about a 'base line' firm cb speed?

Thank you for any input

Not an instructor, but a couple of speculations:

- Some people hit all banks with the same speed so they don't have to worry about the speed variation of cushion rebound angle.

- The question regarding how balls frozen to the rail should be played (i.e. hit cushion first or not, use inside or outside spin) is answered by some as "play them the same as any other shot."

Those are my best guesses, and they are only guesses.

Johnny Archer told me this same thing. He means how you approach and aim a shot. Believe it or not your approach into a shot is aiming! You are aiming with your body and its alignment. Then you aim with your eyes as you get down and your over the shot.

Absolutely great advice.....SPF=randyg

I agree with this too. It's one of the reasons we, as instructors, help our students to develop an accurate, repeatable stroke first...so that when you 'approach' the shot, your subconscious mind already knows that you can accomplish what you're seeing (angle, speed & spin), once your body and cue are aligned to the shot!

He's pretty much correct. Let's set aside Ball Address.

In school we teach that 70-80% of your shots could be shot with the same Stroke Speed. Coupled with S.A.M, 60-70% of your shots are just about the same aim. That makes all the shots, "just about the same"........SPF=randyg

Gee all this time I was thinking that the current shot is the most important shot of the game...

All shots are equally important... didn't know it was about aiming.

The stance portion if this thread is perfect for you. Never have I seen anyone step in to the shot like you do. Makes you wonder how you could ever miss.

I miss more shots from a bad Ball Address position than any other reason. In TRAINING, I work on Ball Address for about 5 minutes a day three times a week......SPF=randyg
