I found these on youtube -

First is Jackie Gleason's only appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1985.

In Part 2 he talks about his days of playing pool and his role in The Hustler. The entire interview is worth watching!

The second is from a 1984 interview by Morely Safer on 60 Minutes. Some of the interview is conducted while Gleason is shooting pool. Part 2 contains some footage of The Hustler.

Part 3 of this interview has one of the best Gleason lines ever, when asked about being referred to as "The Great One", and whether or not he really believed it, he responds, "You just saw me play pool, didn't you?"

I wasn't really a fan of Jackie's

Funny thing was that I wasn't really a fan when he was first on TV. It took some years to appreciate Jackie Gleason. The very first time I saw the hustler I realized that Jackie knew his way around a pool table. The second time I watched it I realized that he came very close to stealing the show. I have now watched the hustler several times purely to watch the few minutes with Jackie Gleason in them. Of course I am much more appreciative of his other stuff too as I recognize just how good he was.

I had seen both of these video's before but they were well worth watching again. Thanks!

Gleason was a great actor, he could play a comedy role or even a serious role, will always love his character in Smokey and The Bandit. :smile:

Gleason was at his best (IMO) on the Jackie Gleason Show. His characters were funny, but his timing was incredible. I loved the Joe the Bartender bit with Frank Fontaine...Gleason could say more with one facial expression than with an hour of dialogue. He was a genius in the comedy world.

No one could do a "take '' like Jackie Gleason,,,,,,

He was one of the all time greats,,,,,!!

Imagine hanging out with him back in the day in ''TOOT SHORS'...??
