"there has been a disturbing pattern of posts here over the last several years where cuemakers are simply not delivering what they promised and stalling on refunds, a true reflection of cuemakers in general imo". end quote emphasis added

Bob, have a look at some of smashmouths other posts and I predict that you will not worry about this persons comments anymore.

Dave

That is a very off handedly negative remark. Especially on a forum that I happen to know from first hand experience is frequented by a lot of very fine cue makers who not only provide what they promise, but go to great lengths to ensure that you are satisfied with the result.
I don't know anything about this guy, but...

Where was this context taken from? You should have provided a link and saved us a lot of investigative work as I've looked around on the main forum and have found nothing so far. Could be anywhere.

At the end of his tirade he says imo. Now everyone is entitled to their opinion so he has done nothing wrong on that account. Luckily, some peoples opinions carry much more weight than others. By reading past opinions you can usually get a pretty good synopsis of another's outlook on life in general.

You must admit there have been a few cue makers on this site who have given, what I would say is less than stellar performance sometimes in repairs, cue quality and most of all, timely deliveries. Once in a while something occurs that puts things out of the builder/mechanics hands as this last episode with Patrick. There was a mistake made and he was trying to amend it as quickly as possible but was still slammed pretty good. As far as I'm concerned, a cue makers integrity is the most valuable thing he possesses. If his cues aren't quite up to par yet, with some more experience they will be. All of the mechanical part of cue making can be learned. You get your integrity from your parents and how you were brought up. It's not just learned. It is for this reason that I slammed Mr. Ed so hard when he got on here and apologized to all the people who he had taken money from to build them a cue that he found he had no shafts so their delivery date was going to be extended. He waits to tell them this until he got their money and then everyone thought that he was so wonderful for now letting them know. It takes months or years to make a good shaft. He took orders for like 30 cues and he had 5 or 6 shafts to work with. This wasn't just something that popped up but was known well in advance. When I stated that cue makers usually get money up front and full payment before the cue is actually delivered the cue builder must be trusted pretty well for some one send off a 1000 or more dollars to someone they've never met, just heard about. When one cue maker scams a customer it doesn't just hurt him but also puts a cloud over the whole industry. There were many who condemned me for slamming poor Eddie and one or two gave me a red rep. I didn't slam him for his lack of skills but for his lack of integrity and flat out bull $ it he was putting out and I told him he was nothing but a con man which certainly proved to be an omen considering all that he screwed. When he was stealing and offering to give away copy rited soft ware and was caught by the owner of the software. Mr. Ed then made a post condemning whoever had turned him in. There was one person who stood up for Mr. Ed saying that whoever turned Eddie in should be found out and thrown off the forum. This is as much as saying that a murdered person was at fault and people are terrible for condemning the murderer. There is no way in life I would ever consider doing business with this person as I now know how much integrity he has.

It's true that one apple can spoil the whole basket.

The problem with most cue makers on this forum is that they are mostly hobbiest. Being as such, if they take an order for a cue, they have not had enough experience to properly estimate the completion time, especially if they are out working at their regular job trying to make a living. Some times things come up they're not repaired for and they don't have the proper supplies on hand and often a good enough wood supply that is properly aged. The wood probably causes the most problems for a cue maker who is doing everything else above board. They have a bunch of time invested in the cue just to have it move from being nor quite dry in the center. Another, even bigger problem is when someone feels it's time to turn their hobby into a full time job. They usually have to work on a shoestring so to speak and if you have kids and other commitments, they don't like eating shoestrings. I don't know how anyone would decide to become full time without at least 6 months of all of your living expenditures saved and have at least 4 or 500.00 a week in steady repairs coming in. This is where I get most of my sales. People come in for a tip and see some of the work in progress and then place an order.

Boy, has this become long winded.

Dick

Long winded, but VERY well put!!!!!
(I put the extra exclaimation points in memory of 'good ole Eddie')

I have a lot of respect for you full timers, I don't know how you do it. An example is, I was going to work on shafts today, but instead, had to spend the day fixing my boiler that broke overnite. No parts stores open, had to custom make some fittings on my lathe to get it going again. This doesn't set me back any, as I do this as a hobby and have no obligations to anyone at this time, but to someone that does it everyday, and has commitments, this could set you guys back a full day at least which takes a lot more effort to catch back up.

The post in question is in the now closed thread 'can't get a refund'

It's about 2/3 rds down the page.

Thanks Dave, I just went and read a little to get background. He does sound like a bitter little man. I wish the thread was still open as I seen a few other not quite correct statements especially about the ACA policing there own ranks. Not quite true.

Cue Builders

That statement doe not speak for the majority of the AZ members that work with cue builders.
Anyone that knows a cue maker knows what they go through and some builders are just better businessmen than others.
Some take on repairs to help people or make extra money and yes some of their customs get delayed.
I would rather get a cue 6-months late than push the guy into rushing through it.

Support your local cue builder

Yea, He's a real class act. You should do a search of his posts to get a better feel of this guy.
I was a little surprised about the closed issue, but there seems to be strange happenings around here lately. Someone went from all red rep to all green again in about 20 minutes the other nite, and the person deserved to be red, but wala, all green. and it involved the same transaction/thread as is discussed here.
Makes a person shake their head and wonder why we try.....
As a side note Dick, it's funny you mentioned our old 'bud':mad:Eddie earlier, he just resurrected from the dead on the other board yesterday after months have gone by after being chased from there also, trying to show he has learned how to do billets without a sharpie. The pics were very fuzzy, and overall the work looked sloppy as usual. Once a skank, always a skank.
You, Joey, myself and a few others called it correctly over a year ago, but unfortunately it fell on deaf ears, and you personally caught a lot of shit for calling a pile of shit for what it was. Where were the 'big protectors' of the universe then????
But then a year or so later, a cuebuilder stops a deal, to do the right thing and all of a sudden these do righters come out of nowhere to crucify him, when he actually tried to do the right thing. He made a mistake, but was right there to make it right as soon as he could. He could've just sent it out 'fixed' but he knew it wasn't right.
Well, I'll get off my soapbox now, as I have made my point repeatedly in various threads now. Hopefully somewhere along the way the buyers will read, and understand what they read, and make educated decisions BEFORE sending full payments to someone. And hopefully, some members here will learn not to do the MOB mentality, just to sound or look like the 'protector of the universe' or to see their name up in a thread.
Won't happen, but it's nice to dream......

Dave:

I asked for the threat to be removed or at very least closed! I guess I didnt have the right name to get it removed though! At least they closed it! This way idiots cant bring it back up after a few weeks for no other reason than to try to cause me more damage!

Thanks for the support!!!

Well, if he did find him, he used restraint. I personally think Ed spent some time in, well, lets say, the barred windowed hotel......
I'll leave it at that.

i don't think any cue maker on here should be upset at the guy who posted this. if anything it just puts into very real words the damage that can be done when certain cue makers take money and then don't deliver .we all know what i'm talking about right...?

this specific type of cue maker is really effecting the image of all the cue makers out there

Dave,
..."MOB mentality"... ???? New one for me - please define....

Mob mentality is when you get a group of people together, and one or a few, starts an action, and before long others get caught up in it, and end up doing the same things, sort of like a riot. They do things, that if they were to think about it first, they would never do, but being caught up in the moment, do things that everyone else is doing, and it turns into a mob action. It happens a lot on forums, when it comes to jumping on someone, one starts, then before you know it there is a mob going after that one person, and most don't even have a clue who it is, or what they're accused of doing wrong, they just join the movement.
That's the best I can define it in words.
Dave

I was thinking in terms of M.O.B. Thought you had a new term for me (maybe man overboard - as in throwing him there...). Mob mentality I understand entirely - and it's a good descriptor for the forum activity your talking about.
